A great location, nestled in dreamlike garden landscapes and with wonderful views into the distance. The houses are very spacious and nothing is missing; the bathrooms very generously designed with indoor and outdoor shower. Due to the non-existent heating, it gets very cool in the evening and in the morning; in the evening, the fireplace, which is lit by the attentive staff, helps; in the morning it is not so and when getting up - despite summer time - it is unpleasantly cool (but this “whines” at a high level). Some villas are quite dark, as the vegetation provides shelter on one side and lack of light on the other (in any case applies to house number 6). The staff is very accommodating and makes possible what can be made possible. A very large pool with great views completes the amenities. The food is wonderful; very tasty and individual preparations - the own bakery provides fresh and delicious bread. At one point or another, the renovation backlog shows up - when this is worked off is certainly worth five stars.

Our two nights at Gibb's Farm was a lovely, relaxing experience after two weeks of safari.
Walking the grounds was like living in a botanical gardens, although much larger than the botanical gardens in any American city. A world unto itself, the Farm is totally self-sustaining, from produce, to poultry, to acres of coffee. Gibb's takes farm-to-table fresh to a whole new level.
The lead chef took time to discuss her background and fill us in on the Farm's food philosophy and practices. We were able to observe the bread making process, watch banquet tables become artfully stacked with beautiful, tasty selections. Lovely fruits and desserts served with every meal.
The lead gardener guided us through a tour of the beautifully laid out self-sustaining garden, core to the farm. Simply inspirational to even the most avid homesteader.
Our private cottage was large, but cozy and very comfortable. Wonderful private botanical and farm views from the many windows, and comfortable private deck.
A working double-sided fireplace faced both the sitting/bedroom area and the bathroom tub/shower area. A private outdoor shower felt so great, I took advantage of it both morning and evening.
Staff also provided us with a wonderful guided tour of the nearby town.

Gibbs farm is, as it suggests, a historic working farm renovated into a 21 bed luxury lodge. It has character with spectacular views over the farm. Rooms are spacious with a colonial feel. Whilst many have commented on the food, the largely buffet options were not however memorable.
A range of farm and other activities are offered every day with many included as part of your half / full Board package. In particular the sunset culture show by the local Iraqw tribe is well worth doing.
However be clear on your expectations. If you are looking for somewhere to relax for several days and want a change from safaris as many reviewers here clearly are then Gibbs could be an option for you given its comfortable rooms, views, range of activities and full opportunity to use the facilities such as massage, pool all within a relaxed and tranquil setting. It is however priced accordingly as a luxury resort.
However if your main reason to be in the area is to visit the Ngorongoro crater then this is probably not a good option in terms of either value or location. For a future trip to Ngorongoro I would certainly consider elsewhere.
The main entrance for Ngorongoro is about 30/35 minutes away and the crater itself a further 20/30 minutes. If you do stay here then a very early start is recommended to beat queues and maximise the incredible Ngorongoro experience (given per day vehicle entrance fee $300, plus $70 per passenger)

Dear Valued Guest Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your stay at Gibbs Farm. We truly appreciate your honest assessment, as it helps us to better understand our guests' experiences and manage expectations. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the character, spectacular views, and spacious, colonial-style rooms that Gibbs Farm offers. We're also glad you found the included activities, especially the sunset cultural show with the Iraqw tribe, to be worthwhile. We understand your point about the buffet options not being memorable. We continuously strive to enhance our culinary offerings, and your feedback will be shared with our culinary team for review and improvement. Your insights regarding the location's suitability for Ngorongoro Crater visits are particularly valuable. As you correctly pointed out, while Gibbs Farm provides a tranquil and luxurious retreat with a range of activities, its location may not be ideal for those whose primary focus is maximizing time within the crater itself, given the travel time. We aim to provide a balance of relaxation and activities, which may not align with the priorities of all travelers. We recognize that Gibbs Farm is best suited for guests seeking a relaxing farm stay experience with a variety of included activities, a chance to unwind, and a change of pace from traditional safaris. We appreciate you highlighting the value of the included activities and the opportunity to utilize our facilities like the massage and pool in a serene setting. We value your suggestion to consider alternative accommodations for future Ngorongoro Crater focused trips. We want to ensure our guests make informed decisions based on their specific travel goals. Thank you again for your thoughtful review. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Gibbs Farm in the future, should your travel plans align with the unique experience we offer. Sincerely , Gibbs Farm Family

From check-in to check-out, the Gibb's Farm experience was nothing short of spectacular. The room itself was absolutely gorgeous with ample space, views of the verdant farm, double vanity and a beautiful outdoor shower set among all the tropical trees and plants. The food is truly out of this world, and the executive chef is talented beyond belief. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are updated daily, using all the fresh produce from the farm such as milk, eggs, dairy (pasteurized in house), coffee, and of course the wonderful fruits, veg and herbs and spices grown on the farm's grounds. To this day I am still dreaming of their butter! I live in NYC so I am not short of good food but I must say the Gibb's farm food is some of the best I've ever had. Delicious, fresh, interesting, and all farm-to-table.
All the staff are very friendly and do their best to make your stay great. There is a daily happy hour at 530 which overlooks the magificent landscape and it is a nice chance to mingle with other guests and be social. Gibb's farm also offers a bumch of daily activities for you, from bird-watching, to cow-milking to farm tours. A huge shout out to Lazaro who gave us the best farm tour... we milked the cows, fed the goats, collected the eggs and explored all the plants that are grown on site. The team of horticulturalists and naturalists on site take immense pride in their work and you can see that live... the grounds are truly beautiful and manicured perfectly.
I would go back to Gibb's Farm in a heartbeat. This was our first stop on our honeymoon and it got it off to a flying start! Thank you to all at Gibb's Farm for an unforgettable stay!

We were a group of 18 and every single person (including the kids) loved this property. We spent an entire day here to enjoy the property and could have easily done an extra day to see it all. We took the farm tour (and were lucky to see some of the Savanna elephants nearby). We also did the Elephant Cave and Waterfall hike, there was a lot of fresh buffalo dung and we had a ranger along with us on the hike. The hike was done by both kids and adults and it was very interesting and a bit of a climb in some parts. Our guide (Pascal) was informative and personable and everyone had a lovely time.
We purchased amazing artwork from the artist in residence (expensive). He is very talented. There are so many wonderful things to enjoy here, including biking through the local village and yoga. We tried to experience them all.
The food was very good, although some of the kids ordered hamburgers and didn't like them. Also the snacks put out during fire tales and evening performances were popcorn, peanuts and some meatballs. My niece has a peanut allergy and unfortunately wasn't aware that she was eating peanuts as they looked and tasted a little bit different from peanuts served in USA. She ate a handful and had an allergic reaction. We did have to take her to the hospital and she was back within a couple of hours. Nancy was very thoughtful and concerned. I think in future, if someone has a peanut allergy, the staff should be mindful and make sure not to offer them in a group setting.
The cottages were absolutely charming with claw foot bathtubs, fireplace and indoor and outdoor showers and heating blankets.
We stayed in Safari and Deutsches House
Safari Cottage had great views of the farm
Deutsches House had an enclosed view and early morning sounds from the kitchen staff. Lovely 2 bedroom house, bathtubs need to be replaced.
Beauty and Ngoma - was able to fit 6 kids in both connecting cottages
Had a massage from a Martin (who is Masai). Price was very good at $40
Tipping for all back of the house can be done in USD, Tanzanian Schillings or on credit card.
The pool area and views are stunning and the staff did a high tea for us to celebrate birthdays, graduation and anniversary. Simply divine.
I would stay here every day of the year if possible.

This converted coffee farm is a quiet, unpretentious, luxury hotel in Northern Tanzania, which is an excellent base for visiting the incomparable Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, which itself is a hub for African Safari animal viewing. I enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly staff, accommodations, and food. I also had an amzing massage and took a hike from the hotel to a waterfall. Its a working farm and visiting the well-cared animals was a fun diversion too. If you have interest, you can ask to be taken on a Bush Baby viewing "hunt" through the hotel trees (using flashlights) in the evening.

This was our third visit to Gibbs and it won’t be our last. We were made to feel so very welcome, given the most beautiful, comfortable room overlooking the garden and farm and felt instantly….at home !
It was our plan to relax for a few days before safari and this was the perfect place. It was good to find so many of the staff were still there after our last visit in 2019 and still providing the most excellent service. We wanted for nothing. Everyone is so friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and so keen to give the best possible experience.
The rooms are self contained cottages which are spacious and comfortable, huge beds with electric blankets, good indoor and outdoor showers, furnished tastefully and all with unique views. We thought nothing could beat the first room we had and then each visit, a new room, a beautiful experience. We overlooked the garden and farm this time which was perfect.
The outdoor spaces are exceptionally well managed, lovely gardens tended carefully, plenty of green space with beautiful views to relax in. It’s difficult to find a highlight because there are so many special ones! The organic garden and farm is beautiful, everything is tended so carefully and all of the produce grown there ends up on the menu. The taste, the freshness, the creativity makes for the most delicious food.
Touring the garden and farm was a highlight, lessons in organic farming, meeting the animals and learning some new Swahili words and being cared for by the nicest people always and a special mention to Malchiory who carefully guided us, Pole, Pole!
The only problem we had was leaving
Thank you Everyone at the beautiful Gibbs. You made this stay very special.

Lovely place to stay close to the crater but far enough away to have a truly serene experience (away from the crowds). The rooms, bathrooms (plus an outdoor shower), fireplaces in the room, views, food, and especially the staff make this a truly luxury resort. We spent one day exploring the crater and were so happy to come home to Gibbs Farm. We opted not to go back to the crater (one day was plenty) and spent our second day enjoying GF. Definitely tour the gardens/farm and take an escorted hike from the front door into the national park to see elephant caves and a beautiful waterfall. There is no shortage of activities right there! The food was delicious with plenty of options to choose from and many items from the farm on the property. An added bonus was the local entertainment each night.

It was lovely, service was impeccable and grounds immaculately maintained. Meals were good and service was very good and the plumbing and hot water were the best we encountered in Tanzania. Points off for overall value for the money.
Our travel agent set us up here and only later did I understand the cost (2 units for our family of five, one night=$2400 USD total). Part of this is the exorbitant fees levied by the Tanzania govt (Gibbs is technically within the boundaries of Ngorongoro conservation area), but this is Napa Valley level pricing in an area that really should be more affordable. This was a theme throughout our stay in Tanzania: occasionally you will find value, but usually you are getting soaked and paying more than in the US or Europe for what would be something equivalent.

My sister thought this would be a quaint farm owned by a little old lady and based our Tanzania trip around this. Thankfully we were intending to stay 3 nights but could only stay 2 nights in the end.
Pros
Stunning gardens and beautiful views
Large rooms
The local village singing and dancing evening was fantastic.
Food cooked by the chef was excellent but we did ask for one of the soup recipes, which was never sent.
Cons
Now owned by an American and a Brit so the tipping culture is off the scale, which means all the staff are driven by tips. It was the least friendly place we stayed at. Everyone expected a tip.
Someone else has commented that they light a fire and it’s gone out in 10 minutes.
There’s no radios or phones in the room and when the WiFi cut out there was no way to get in touch with anyone.
Location: It is 2 hours to the crater (1 hour to the gate and 1 hour to the crater) on bad roads. Most people leave early so the crater rim, which doesn’t have a crash barrier, is covered in fog so you’ll be driving in fog.
Food: packed lunches/breakfasts were dire. They provided samosas, which were so greasy, that the grease had soaked through the grease proof paper, and loads of cakes. Why not provide a tick list for packed lunches/breakfasts? All we wanted were cheese sandwiches.
Conclusion
Skip this and drive to one of the lodges on the crater.

I would email them directly. We had a guided tour there. Your questions is pretty ambiguous. Are asking for a day trip there or a day trip some where else?
Hi Kathy,
We have a number of options on our massage menu. The massages are done in the privacy of your cottage.
If you go to the Gibb's Farm Tanzania website (unfortunately Tripadvisor does not allow me to include a link here) you will find our massage menu.
Best wishes
Gerd
I checked Google Maps. Their estimate is a little “wrong”. It’s about 45 minutes or so to the gate. Then you have to sort the paperwork. The dive down into the Crater takes another hour but the scenery is so lovely the time flies. I would recommend Gibbs Farm overnight before going to the Crater. They also provided a fantastic picnic lunch for everyone in our party.
Good morning. Yes, we are building a swimming pool with construction being underway at the moment.
The anticipated completion date is mid December this year.
Best wishes
Gerd
