Detailed Reviews
I've never stayed at this hotel, so to be fair gave it a rating of average. However, I own the hotel where the "professional" picture came from and it is not from Oxtankah, It is from Mayan Beach Garden Inn, north of Mahahual. I have no idea what the rooms look like, but this elevated King size bed is not at Oxtankah.

My husband and I live in Corozal, Belize and love to go to Chetumal for the weekends. Calderitas MX has always drawn us with their nice people and comfortable caribbean feel.
We've been Going to Oxtankah for 3 years now and still love it! It's not perfect but little by little we have seen improvements.
The rooms are spacious and very clean. The hotels staff is extremely friendly and the Resturant has great food and snacks for beside the pool relaxation!
We're already looking forward to our next weekend trip!

Last Easter my family and I had the oportunity to stay at Oxtankah Hotel in one of the suites. It was a Breath taking expirience the ambience was fantastic, we had no problems. I love the view that we got and not to mentioned the facilities they are incredible. I highly recommend that if you are planning to stay in Chetumal you stay at this hotel. It is outside of the city but it worth it...
My family and friends are planning to vacation this Easter again..

We, my husband and son who is seven years old stumbled across this hotel whilst looking around the small fishing village of Calderitas and decided to stay for the weekend and we are glad we did.
We booked a double room which was basic with plenty of room and clean, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the swimming pool was heaven as the temperatures that weekend were very high, the lush gardens are full of fruit trees, such as Sour Sop, Lime, Avocado and Orange and was well kept.
In the local vicinity there are many restaurants specialising in seafood at reasonable prices, but do shop around as you will be pleasantly surprised and this small town has a friendly family atmosphere and the Hotel is an excellent location for exploring some well known sites.
We will definately be back and thanks to all the staff who made our stay a pleasant one.

+1
First of all, this hotel is advertised as located in Chetumal. It isn't. It is in Calderitas, 15 minutes away. It is a family-owned hotel and the customer service was extremely lacking. I booked a fully-equipped studio with kitchenette. Upon arrival, they tried to place me in a first floor, two-bed, room.
When I pointed out the mistake from my reservation, they switched the room, but there was nothing in the kitchenette except a counter-top, four burner gas stove. There were not plates, cooking utensils or refrigerator. When I asked about this, a refrigerator was brought up to the room, but I was told to go to the store and buy "plastico" to cook and eat with. I would up eating at local restaurants for four days. Due to my plans and the fact it was Christmas, I couldn't go somewhere else. I speak Spanish, but the staff was so uncaring. One of the young girls at the desk was more concerned about chewing her gum and doing her nails then helping me with directions to places I wanted to visit. The hotel is built overlooking the bay. The swimming pool water was green, and I was told it was due to the rain. I agree with this to some extent. It was green because the filtration system was not being run. They eventually did so and the pool was better. The restaurant there was closed. I was told that this is more of a Mexican family hotel. It was clean, but other than that, I was surprised how lax the customer service was. The hotel is built overlooking the bay. It is only 6 or 7 years old but appears older. It is built between poor homes and there are many. many dogs roaming the streets. The chickens and roosters will wake you very early. It is a typical small, Mexican town. The view from the hotel is beautiful, but I will never stay there again.

We stayed at the Hotel Oxtankah for three nights while exploring the Chetumal area.
The hotel has a great location on a hill only a half a block from the water in the resort town of Calderitas. On the second night I moved to a room on the third floor to enjoy the excellent view and breeze from the ocean. The atmosphere of the hotel is beautiful with large well kept garden and pool areas. We enjoyed a number of fine meals at the waterfront restaurants a short distance away. I'm looking forward to staying here again.

"This is a good place to stay for a night or two if you want to see the Oxtankah ruins. I am a runner and I can tell you there are many stray dogs roaming the streets. There are small homes surrounding the hotel property with lots of roosters and chickens. It takes 15 minutes for the hot water to get hot."Read full review
