I was two times in this new hostel. In six month of travelling, i had never such helpful and lovely owners than Olga and her family. The rooms are also very clean and to sit on the balcony is a dream. You can also use their kitchen and the supermarket is very close to the hostel...

La Posada is a brand new hostel with opened in October 2012 - but the hospitality and welcome provided by Olga (the owner) and her family make you feel very much like home.
The Hostel is a bit out of town, maybe a 20-30minute stroll along Venustiano Carranza and down one of the main streets takes you into the city centre. But if you're not into that, local taxis buzz around constantly - so 18 pesos (like......a quid) gets you in or out of town in about 5 mins.
The Hostel has a locked gate and you have to ring for entry, and every bed has it's own big box locker - so bring a padlock!
Downstairs there's a well equipped communal kitchen and a small comfy lounge from where you can use the complimentary Wi-Fi (the signal is a wee bit patchy from the rooms).
Upstairs has a combination of dorms and private rooms - and a neat balcony/sitting area with some of the comfiest loungers i've ever sat in! The shared bathroom is a bit tired looking - but it's massive and it does what it says on the tin - although check with Olga to make sure the boiler is on to get all the hot water you want!
Brekkie is included and Olga buys in some fresh bread rolls, and there's a supply of fresh fruit, butter, jam and eggs if you fancied something a bit more.
It was pretty quiet when I stayed for a few nights - I guess this place is not quite on the radar yet, and maybe the walk/taxi into town might discourage some. But having said that I met some great people there, and really enjoyed chatting to Olga and her family.
So if you want a quiet peaceful night to stop over in Chetumal this is the place! If you're only passing through via ADO bus you'll be getting a taxi anyway.......Also if you've some time to kill in Chetumal - you simply MUST visit the Mayan Cultural Museum; it's nothing short of fantastic!

Olga really goes above and beyond, you will feel like you´re part of the family. Even inviteded us to eat dinner and did not want anyting in return. I highly recommend for anyone to stay here.
You can get around very easily around town with Taxi or you can rent a bicycle on Blvd Bahia (close to walmart on the road by the sea), its very bike friendly. It will cost you 20 pesos per hour.

I stayed here from February 19th to the 22nd. I spent the first and last night in a private room upstairs and the night of the 20th in the female dorm room on the main floor.
La Posada Chetumal is a short taxi ride from the bus station (cost me 50 pesos). I booked through hostelbookers.com because I was unaware of the availability of booking on the hostel's website, laposadachetumalhostel.com.mx. After I made my booking, I received an email from Olga confirming my reservation. She was very quick to reply to my emails any any questions or concerns I had.
I ended up booking a different flight than I had originally planned and Olga was very kind to accommodate my changes.
When I arrived to the hostel at night time, Olga showed me around her place, then showed me my private room upstairs at the front of the house. The room was clean, the beds were nicely made with fresh sheets and clean pillow cases. The room had an oscillating fan on the ceiling which kept the room cool and comfortable for sleeping. The large bathroom was across the hall from my room. There was also a large terrace/balcony upstairs with comfortable hammock chairs and tables. Wifi reached this room and the terrace just fine, which made it a comfortable quiet space to skype.
The female dorm room had six beds and a private bathroom. I was the only traveler in this room the night I stayed so it was quite peaceful. Conveniently there were huge lockers that would fit just about anything you would be travelling with.
Over the three days that I stayed at La Posada Chetumal, Olga continuously went out of her way for me, more than I would have ever expected! She is warm and inviting, and very motherly with all of her guests. Many times when asking her for approval to do something, her response would be, "You are free, this is YOUR house!".
She has lots of informational brochures for Belize and other places in Mexico, and if you need help booking the water taxi to San Pedro or Caye Caulker, just ask!
Olga and the rest of La Posada Chetumal family are constantly cleaning - the entire place is spotless. Guests are free to hang out anywhere and there is a TV in the common area (they have a lot of movies to choose from too).
Breakfast is included in your room rate here, and there are often other munchies laying around throughout the day.
On my way back to Cancun from Belize I stopped in and visited with Olga for a little while and I didn't want to leave. It felt like I was home again...
When you arrive in Chetumal, be sure to have the address handy for the taxi drivers to ensure they take you to the right place. Olga is a fantastic woman, and you won't regret your stay with her!

Olga was so amazing, I had food poising when I first arrived here. Because I can't speak Spanish Olga took me to the doctors and explained my symptoms. She also kept checking up me to see I I was ok and cooked me a meal!! Olga you are so generous and welcoming!! We won't forget our stay here!! This is a must stop in Chetumal, the place is very clean with comforting facilities and lots of movies on the flat screen!! Thanks again!!!

Olga and her family were beyond friendly. I witnessed her driving people to atms, banks, stores, and she even did my laundry, when I asked to do it myself. Always had free food for breakfast and even offered lunch to guests. Great location to a grocery store, atms, malecon(seawall), and colectiva picksup right around the corner for Bakalar. Stayed 3 nights at 13.00 per night including breakfast and wifi, had the whole dorm to myself all 3 nights. The house is enormous and met several top notch guests from sweden, germany, prague, france, italy, tennessee, great britain, and russia...a great family atmosphere, very secure if you have a motorcycle you can put under the carport. 5 stars!

I stayed at La Posada en route from Mexico to Guatemala and it was one night too many. The atmosphere is strange as it is a family's home. I tried to take a shower, only to discover there was no water. I asked the manager and he turned the water on, but it still wasn't hot. The location is in a residential neighborhood, far from any sort of attraction (not that Chetumal has much in it). I wasn't given a pillow and had to repeatedly ask for a set of sheets.

$190 per person/per night basic twin private ensuite, 1st-2nd April 2014
Vibe: It felt like living in someone's home. Chetumal is only likely to be used as a 1-2 night stop-over for those arriving from/going to Belize and this is a pleasant enough base.
Location: Downtown, a $20 taxi ride away from the ADO bus terminal but within a 25 minute walk of the 2nd class station (tip – hail a taxi from the next street over on Av. Insurgentes for this price, rather than outside the bus station). Situated in a residential area, it felt very safe.
Best thing: The solid and hearty homemade breakfasts.
Worst thing: As Chetumal is a border town, there is very little to do here, and certainly surrounding the hostel, your options are limited.
Value for money: Big room, free breakfast but given that this is not an idyllic seaside town or one filled with cultural activities, the price seemed a little steep.
Recommend for: Those planning a stopover in the town.
Top tip: Take a trip to Laguna Bacalar, a beautiful fresh water lagoon, a mere 45 minute bus journey from Chetumal.
Rating: 6

Missed the boat to Caye Caulker and got stuck in an otherwise uninteresting town. Enjoyed our stay here mostly due to the great host and owner, Olga. She had drinks with us well into the night and treated us to snacks and pizza. Such a warm welcome. Much appreciated. Rooms are basic and clean and value is average. Tasty breakfast included with your stay. If you want budget accommodations in Chetumal , stay here!

Arrived at the Posada with a total group of three, we were instantly welcomed and given a room. We were in a mixed dorm and although the rooms had a ceiling fan and the windows were open, it was still a bit hot in there. After a couple beers the sleep was no problem. This hostel is perfect if your crossing the border in to belize or guatemala, although you do need to take a taxi from the bus station and to the ADO it is less than 20 Pesos so no complaint there.
The family that owns it is very friendly and know good english as well. The only two down side's are: not many restaurants that we could find in the town, although a supermarket is around the corner and you can cook in the shared kitchen, and that there is only one shared bathroom which was inconvenient at times but would be a lot worse with more people. The wifi was fast and like everyone said a flat screen tv. We stayed on new years and were drinking outside on the patio, playing instruments and singing along till pretty early in the am and no one seemed to be bothered, so good drinking atmosphere too!
Would reccomend two stay a max 2 nights only because I really hated the city and was just passing through to Belize.
