I recently visited Swell... for the third time. Every time I go it exceeds my expectations. The pictures on the website say it all and it is no different once you arrive. However what you do not experience on the website is the people who run and work at Swell. They have an excellent staff from the cooks, the security...

Honestly it's hard for me to express in written word my experience at Swell surf camp, I had such an amazing time. I stayed at swell for 7 weeks starting at the beginning of October and from the moment I arrived they made me feel like I wasn't staying at a surf camp, but with friends that I'd known for...

I recently returned from Swell Surf Camp and my first experience of kite-boarding. And what an experience that was!! Everything was perfect from how easy it was to get to (3 hours, direct from JFK), door to door service from Puerta Plata airport to Swell. The hotel itself is a beautiful building, with great rooms that are super-clean and look...

i really cannot understand where all of the positive reviews come from. We booked our trip based on the reviews here and were shocked at the reality of the product. First mistake, Dominican is not a surf destination but if you can see past that for the warm weather and night life then read on..... Secondly, a surf camp by...

We are truly sorry to read your opinion of Swell. The majority of our former guests, many of whom are seasoned surfers, would take issue with your point that the Dominican Republic is not a 'surf' destination' and as a result, we have an extremely high return-customer rate. This week alone, we've had some world-class surf conditions and in a...

The staff was great, the surf was fun and the food was excellent. The surf pro on site was informative and very cool, a young guy on site doubled as a funny surf instructor and more of a surf imposter than instructor (think his name was Dock or Brock or something) but provided comedic relief if anything. The property was...

I had a great time there. My only wish is that I brought my own surfboard. They have a great selection for learners and beginners but no high performance boards. The bed was comfortable and the staff was great!

Hi First off thanks for taking the time to review our place, and we are very happy to hear that you had a great time with us! Regarding the selection of boards, we do have more boards geared towards beginners and intermediates, however we have over 10 high performance short boards in the 5'10'' to 6'8'' range. For you next...

I had a great time at Swell. All of the staff were welcoming, helpful and encouraging and the food was great. I did the "learn to surf" package and thought a week was good for a taste of surfing. My favorite moment (except catching a wave, of course) was getting back to the camp from surfing for a giant, tasty...

Our family (ages 52, 47, 17, 16, 12) has just returned from a second 3 weeks' vacation at swell, and there is no doubt this is the perfect place for an active vacation. Everything was great: the camp, the staff, the food, the guests, the village, the locals and the surfing. Since it was our second time, it felt like...

I stayed at Swell in July 2011 with my Fiancee for three weeks. I paid for our stay in full, up front. A week and a half into the trip I returned from dinner to find that our room had been robbed. These guests were the victim of a theft from one of the cleaning staff who was instantly arrested by the Police and subsequently fired; a regrettable incident for us all. After the theft, this couple and all other guests were asked to list belongings that were taken. Without exception, other guests were reimbursed (some immediately) from our own pocket for...
