Great Marina to launch and park your vehicle and boat trailer while on vacation at French River Lodge Amazing service, friendly staff l, fast and efficient. Price seems a bit high, but like everything now, costs have gone up
My son and I stayed here for a few nights in one of the cottages and our vacation could not have been more perfect. Nestled in a beautiful location with a lovely view over the bay, the cottages are very clean, well equipped and very comfortable. I have spent over half my life in the tourism and customer service industry and from the moment we arrived was blown away from the level of hospitality and kindness from every interaction. Every single time a staff member walked past us we were greeted with a warm smile and made sure we had everything we possibly needed. Any questions were answered with loads of information. The guys working down at the marina were always showing my son the best spots to stand on the dock to fish from and lots of pro-tips on catching the big one. We were treated more like family than guests - including my son receiving birthday wishes all around and even a few birthday gifts. Saying thank you to everyone simply just doesn’t feel enough. It is rare that I am speechless, however I cannot put in to words how grateful I am for the memories we were able to make. It was truly an unforgettable experience that would not have been possible without the wonderful people of Hartley Bay Marina.…
Working at an establishment on the Lower French River, I accessed the river, and left vehicles, at Hartley Bay Marina for nearly twenty years. The service has always been friendly and efficient. It is an excellent place for those wanting to start/end a canoe trip in French River Provincial Park.
Great access point into The French River. Staff and dock guys are very VERY helpful getting the boat into the water. Was a little nervous at first but these guys know what they are doing. Easy access to a few of the other lodges around but will try staying here in 2021 as well. Great service!!!!!
Hartley Bay Marina has been my put-in point for many of my canoeing trips since 1995. Years ago I used to rent canoes there; now I park my car (valet parking is provided!) and launch my canoe ($10 per day parking, $10 launching fee). On weekends the marina can be quite a busy place, but the staff is quite organized and things move very quickly (thanks, Steve!). Because I was at the marina on July 20, 2018, during the mandatory evacuation due to the “Parry Sound 33” fire, the place became a beehive of activity, as so many people were arriving there at the same time, yet everything worked quite smoothly. Camping permits—as well as other supplies and French River maps—can be purchased at the main building. There are some cottages for rent as well. Years ago there was a small train station at Hartley Bay where tourist & their gear could disembark and commence their expeditions on the French River. The station has been gone for decades and I only see very long freight trains passing through Hartley Bay, carrying huge containers. And one more thing: Whenever I come to Hartley Bay Marina, I cannot stop thinking of two kayakers from Poland who in July, 2009 embarked on a kayak trip from Hartley Bay Marina to Ottawa. They paddled the French River, Mattawa River, Lake Nipissing and Ottawa River. It was an amazing trip. Afterwards, I met them and one of the photos they sent me depicted them and their tiny foldable kayak on the dock of Hartley Bay Marina. Two years later, in May, 2011, while kayaking on the Ucayali River in Peru, they were senselessly murdered by local Indians.…
It was my second visit to Hartley Bay Marina in three years. We just came there to load our canoe. The service was very good and there was even valet parking! On weekends this place can get busy, but the staff is very well organized.
I cannot say enough good things about Hartley Bay Marina. They have helped us so much with so many things! The marina facilities are fantastic; clean, well organized and accessible. But what makes this marina so special is the people. The owners James and Mike go above and beyond in every way. They are extremely helpful and trustworthy. We leave our car at their marina as well as our boat, and we could not be happier with the services they have provided. Steve, Dennis and the other guys are so nice and helpful. We have property in the delta of the French River, and I honestly don't know what we would do without Hartley Bay Marina! I highly recommend them!
I go to Hartley Bay Marina and kayak every year - I have been going for 7 years now. I always go up the French River via Water Taxi to a portage, then make my way to Georgian Bay kayak camping for days. The staff always make me feel like I'm a VIP. Since I'm a solo travelling woman, it's good to know the crew at Hartley Bay has my back. They are always on time, and so helpful (even have helped with my gear). It's pretty amazing to be able to get so much service being able to launch from the marina. Not to mention that landscape is spectacular.
I have been hesitant to leave this review but feel I need to. On labour day weekend I brought a group of first time canoeists to the French River for an adventure. Upon arrival the woman issuing the permits was amazing. Friendly and gave us the low down. All good so far. We did as she instructed and in a little over an hour we were Paddling on the French River. The day we beautiful and we were excited. The one thing we didn’t count on was the boaters. They seem to have ownership of this Provincial Park. Angry to slow down and fly past us at full throttle. We elected to stay on one site because of this. We enjoyed our 4 day trip. Now here is where the story goes offside. We were Paddling in the rain on the way out. Actually hide on the side of shore away from a thunderstorm. After it cleared a little we continued to paddle. We were wet and Paddling our way out. Then we were in a small channel and saw a boat coming quickly. We went to the side of the channel to keep a clear passage for the boat to go through. It was a large type boat that had a front lift drop down and was pulling a 16 foot aluminum boat behind it. We thought it would slow down so it wouldn’t throw a wake on us. Well we were wrong. The boat went through at full speed ahead. I remind you that this channel was 50 feet wide. So after the boat sped through it threw a wall of water on each side. When this hit us it through us up on the shore. One boat filled with water others banged up from the roaches and of course everyone shook up. We were in disbelief that this just happened. As the leader especially never having anyone do this to us before. Trying to shake off this disaster we arrived back at Hartley bay marina to see the boat right front in centre on the dock at the marina. Yes that’s right it’s the marinas boat. So once on shore I confirmed this by asking a worker who was driving this boat? He pointed out the other employee and I confronted this person and started to ask a question and he turned his back and walked away. It was a true f u moment. This is why I have left this review. We will never ever use this company for anything again. I am seriously thinking of reporting them to the proper authorities as well. It was embarrassing to be treated this way in today’s day and age. This will also be reported to Ontario parks as they issue permits for this area. I have 11 witnesses in this event. It’s appalling and extremely dangerous. …
Very comfortable beds very clean and lots of room considering we had a room just for our fishing stuff. Nice view out the front window and always friendly staff walking around would def go back. Actually probably next year :)
