The resort left me with mixed feelings. While the facilities are visually impressive, clean, and modern, the service and overall experience fell short once we spent more time at the property.

Areas That Need Improvement:
• Customer Service: Overall, the service was below average, particularly at reception during check-in and check-out. Staff were not very accommodating and provided little to no guidance, including directions to our room.
• Restaurant Reservations: Booking restaurants is done through the Lopesan app, but we had to figure this out ourselves due to the lack of proper instructions during check-in. Out of our 5-night stay, we could only secure reservations 3 times because of limited availability.
• Entertainment: The shows and entertainment were disappointing and not worth attending.
• Activities for Kids: The children’s activity options were limited. The kids’ club caters to ages 2-6, while the teen club starts at 13+. This leaves children aged 8-12 without suitable options.
• Room Privacy: There were no ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs available in the rooms, and housekeeping walked in several times, even while we were sleeping or using the bathroom.
• Pool and Beach Service: Unlike other resorts, there was no poolside or beachside drink service, where staff typically come around to take drink orders.
• Towel Pickup: Pool and beach towels are only available at one location, which was inconvenient. If you wanted to visit the water park, it required a 15-20 minute walk just to pick up towels.

Positives:
• The rooms were spacious and modern.
• The restaurant selection was good, and the food was descent.

This was a mother/ daughter trip. We used a travel agent, booked Air Canada Vacations and chose the Tropical Room with the Unique experience.

ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN – We were the first stop from the airport, 25 mins travel time. Checked in at the Unique Reception, an air-conditioned room, and were seated at a desk. The staff member Kimi, was very pleasant, and informative and suggested we visit the Unique Beach Club for lunch while we waited for our room to be ready. She also connected us with our Butler Carlos Huggins using What’s App. We received bracelets that acted as our room keys! Easy and pleasant experience!

HOTEL ROOM/ GROUNDS – The grounds are stunning, modern, and clean! Carlos met up with us escorted us to our room and showed us all the amenities our room had to offer. The room was large and airconditioned! We always came back to a cold room (thermostat always read 22 C) We never felt any humidity and we had very humid weather during our stay. We did bring damp rid as suggested when visiting any Caribbean destination. After 8 days, the bag was not even half full. The maid came daily, making the bed, wiping the counters, mopping the floor, and restocking towels and bottled water. We always had an abundance of clean towels. The bed was super comfortable.
• Extras Included - slippers and robes,
• Unique Inclusions – beach bag to keep, 2 complimentary bottles of rum, a plate of chocolate truffles, a plate of fruit, and beach towels in our room. Nespresso machine vs coffee

The one thing was the bathroom was open to the main room and with frosted glass doors for the shower and toilet. I knew this before going to the resort and we just worked around it. The room entrance door also has a stopper. The outdoor balcony has a drying rack that can be pulled out. The room had plenty of storage space and is well sized.

I was surprised with the humidity that we didn’t see more mosquitos on the resort. We did bring repellent but never used it. At night, the resort was simply gorgeous. The resort is large but it is walkable. (We have been to other resorts and needed to wait for a shuttle to take us to a different destination on the resort.) Everywhere we went, it was clean and had well-manicured gardens. Elevators and stairs are located in each tower section of the building.

STAFF – We want to go back to this resort partly to see the staff. By trip's end, we were hugging a few staff members goodbye! On the first full day of our trip, many knew our names and we were always greeted with an “Hola! Como estas”. Just walking around the resort and being greeted by various staff members was so welcoming. Carlos called us every morning to see how we were and reassured us that he was there to help with anything we might need. Yes, some staff were not fluent, but Google Translate helped or the staff member would get someone else to help. The staff does their best to ensure you are happy and having an amazing vacation! Our hair dryer gave out one day and we contacted Carlos to have it replaced. It was great to be able to have things taken care of without interfering with our plans. Carlos even called after we got back home from our trip to ensure we arrived home safely!!

WIFI/ APP – Wi-Fi was great at the resort. Never had issues. It was weaker on the beach but that is to be expected. They have an awesome app that I downloaded before the trip and was able to view all the amenities. We were able to book and cancel all our restaurant reservations from the app as well as view all the entertainment available during the day and night. All the information we needed was on this app – Spa, Golf, maps, open and closing times, etc. Also dress codes for restaurants. You cannot make dinner reservations without a room number. We never had issues booking the restaurant we wanted or at the time frame we wanted.

BEACH/POOL - There were plenty of chaises around the pool area and on the beach. We would hop from the beach to the infinity pool to the Unique Pool and never had issues finding a place to rest our towels and belongings. There is no swim-up bar but that to me is preferable and maybe why the water in the pool was so clear and clean. Bars were close to the beach and pool and the staff also came around offering beverages. There was seaweed in the water during our stay but the staff had always kept the beach pretty clean so it never was a deterrent. The ocean has a roped-off section and behind that, there were excursion boats parked. This never bothered us and we never smelt gas from them. I did notice the security on the beach. We had been approached by 2 guys with parrots and a monkey. They wanted to use our phones to snap photos and collect money. The security guards were watching and quickly approaching to ensure we were not hassled. I also noticed security by the pool. Beach towels were available at a hut centrally located between the infinity pool and the beach. We would replace our wet towels with dry ones before walking back to our room.

FOOD/DRINK – The food was amazing! We never ate in the large buffets or Gold Fish restaurant during our stay so I can’t comment on them.

Breakfast - Every morning we went for breakfast at the Unique Club Buffet. Always greeted by Jose or Bianca or both. There was an outdoor grill where you could get fresh omelets and smoothies and then an enclosed area for the rest of the buffet. Sitting beachside to start your day was the best. The staff was always attentive and replenishing drinks or clearing plates. Then we would hit the bar on our way to the pool or beach and grab a beverage in our tumblers.

Lunch - We had lunch at both the Unique Buffet and at the Valley which was a la carte. The Unique Buffet offered grilled seafood and meat and a wonderful selection in the inside buffet. The Valley we went for nachos. All great and excellent service.

Dinner – all A La Carte restaurants were amazing. We ate twice at the Mexican (El Charro) as it was our favourite. Excellent food as well at the French (La Boheme), Steak House (El Asador), and Mareas. The Japanese and Italian were good but the previous listed were our favourites for a la carte.

Food was always served in a timely manner. Service was always exceptional. There was always more than one person attending to the table! We loved interacting with all the staff at the restaurants. At the Mexcian Restaurant we were serenaded by the Mariachi Band. Every restaurant had its own unique ambiance.

One night we did order room service. We were warned it would take 50 minutes from the app. It came within a half hour. Again, excellent service and food.

Bars – The drinks were good and we never waited for service at any of the bars. The pool and beach service was also adequate. International brands are available with the all-inclusive. If you want the option of higher-end brands, you could request it at an extra cost. We did order a bottle of wine at the Steak House and had our room charged. (Check the app for more info on available options). Again, no swim-up pool but we were glad for the that a the pool water was crystal clear.

ENTERTAINMENT/ SOLITUDE
If you wanted to have a peaceful relaxing vacation, the resort was large enough to find your space. If we wanted to find where the action was, we would check the app to find out what was going on or take a walk to the lobby bar and boulevard to discover any adventure or just ask Carlos. We didn't do any excursions but the hotel has all the connections for them which is your safest bet.

BOULEVARD – Loved this aspect of the hotel. You can check the app for all the amenities. From Coffee Shop, bars, entertainment and shops. We did book a package at the spa and also got our hair cuts there! Both were great experiences.

In conclusion, my daughter and I had an amazing vacation at Lopesan. The Unique upgrade was worth it to us for the butler, the personal check-in, the Unique Beach Club, the Unique Pool, Timon Bar, the beach area and the little extras we received. Special Thanks to our butler Carlos, hotel clerk Kimi, all the Unique Beach Club bartenders, servers, and hosts Jose and Bianca, and all the rest of the hotel staff that made our stay so pleasant!

TIPS – bring damp rid, $1 USD for tips, tumblers and download the Lopesan app for info regarding hotel, shuttles and excursions. USD preferred currency. Hand sanitizer if frequenting buffets.

Overall I think our holiday was good - I believe your holiday is what you make of it. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. We had a swim up room which made it for us. Our room was great location we were close to boulevard & also main pool/beach & restaurants. Most staff are nice however there are a handful that are rude.
Rude staff we found were mainly the maids & bar staff (staff were so lovely and couldn’t do enough for you in the main buffet restaurant & the other restaurants)
I would say the grounds are a perfect 5*, however I’m giving this place 3 stars due to the way we were treated by some staff & the issues we had with the maids.
We paid over £9000 for 2 weeks for a family of 4 and we have had just as nice holidays in Greece for half the price.

We didn’t have a good experience with the maids;
They would only clean our room if we left them a tip, some days they would take the tip & still not clean our room. It was shocking. After this happened we chose not to leave a tip.
We came back to the room after celebrating my birthday at the beach to the 3rd day of room not being cleaned. The room was in desperate need of a clean, the floor was covered in sand. We just couldn’t believe they’d left the room again.
One maid left us a note asking if she could have “ something” of ours but didn’t state what is was she wanted - we found this quite odd, after this we made sure all valuable we’re locked away in the safe.
The maids hardly ever left fresh towels - they would take away old towels & not replace or if they did replace we would be left 1 or 2 towels (for a family of 4) we was always having to fetch towels ourselves or use 1 between all 4 of us which was massively frustrating. Especially when we had a restaurant booked and had to be ready for a certain time.

We thought the food was quite nice here, really loved the Mexican French and buffet restaurant. Avoid eating at the Valley Bar, we ordered my son a burger on our first night, My son had eaton half the burger when I noticed it was raw mince inside. When we reported to a staff member she just grabbed the plate and took it away and that was that. However, I’m not sure if this is just how burgers are cooked here?

Bar staff very slow & not served in order. Usually waiting at least 20 mins for a drink.

We had very mixed feelings about this place throughout the holiday, one min we loved the next we didn’t so I can defo see both sides of people leaving the bad and good reviews. I would go back to Dominican however i would probably choose a different hotel. Only if we got the lopesan at a good price would I return.

My partner and I were extremely excited to stay at Lopesan after reading rave reviews. It is a beautiful resort with some great amenities. The gym was definitely one of the highlights. We booked the standard room and were very happy with it. It is very spacious, which is the on going theme of the resort. The property has plenty of space, hang out areas, and beach chairs, even with a lot of people, it never once felt crowded. One thing to note is the TV, it says it is a Smart TV but you are not able to stream Netflix or YouTube, there’s only local channels available to watch. We purposely left our Ipad at home thinking we would not need it as they stated there was a Smart TV. Food is a solid 8/10 with an assortment of options, one of the better buffets selection and quality we’ve experienced. We were graciously given early check-in but here is where everything went down hill and why we won’t be coming back. Upon arrival in our room, we noticed there were blood stains on the sheets, we instantly called front desk to let them know. It’s understandable that things happen, but the situation was handled extremely poorly and ruined our experience. On the third day, after housekeeping made our room, we once again noticed blood on the sheets, front desk was called but this time no one came up. This was an ongoing occurrence over the course of 4 days. I finally came to the realization that it was bed bugs after waking up to bites and more blood spots. We spoke to customer relations, and were moved to another room but the entire time, most staff members did not grasp the severity of the situation. We requested complimentary laundry service to get rid of any bed bugs but it was denied. For the amount of money we are spending, that was the least that could have been done for the inconvenience. The whole process of waiting for housekeeping to change the sheets and switching rooms took way too long and we essentially wasted a day dealing with unpleasant staff to resolve the issue. Bed bugs is a serious matter and I felt like not enough was done to further spread. Now I’ll have to extra measures to ensure the spread doesn’t extend to my home.
In the end, I would caution anyone thinking about booking here. Save your money or go somewhere else.

We stayed at this hotel with our family this year and were very satisfied. It offers excellent value for money. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. There is plenty of space to walk around, and the hotel grounds are very green and well-maintained. We had no issues with our room — the air conditioner worked perfectly, and the outlets were compatible with all types of hair dryers and styling tools.

The hotel territory is very impressive, and there is a wide variety of food available. Some reviews mentioned that breakfasts are repetitive, which could be true, but the selection is so extensive that you can make it different every day. The food is of very high quality and delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the drinks are excellent. The beach is beautiful as well.

The only downside is the boats that are often docked nearby. This can sometimes make swimming less comfortable due to a slight smell of fuel. However, this didn’t significantly affect our overall experience, as you can easily swim a bit further to the left or right of the hotel’s beach.

Overall, this is a great place for families with children. There is plenty of space for kids to play, and the water park is wonderful. The staff is very friendly and accommodating toward children, making the experience even more enjoyable.

We were very happy with the housekeeping as well. It’s a good idea to leave small tips, which are greatly appreciated but never expected. If you need anything, like extra bedding or more frequent changes, the staff is happy to help upon request. Communication was easy and pleasant — being polite and friendly goes a long way.

Unique @ Lopesan Costa Bavao

Check in spot on and beautiful reception area. Met with a bright smile from Marcela Cuevas, she made us feel comfortable and insured we received our welcome drink, and quickly and flawlessly checked us in. Waited. Around 30 minutes for the room to be ready ( we arrived early before stated check in time) All in all it was one of the least painless process than I expected.
After the 30 minute wait we met our butler Victor Medina who was a superstar!!! Completely on top of his game, super informative, and an all around nice and humble gentleman. He brought us to our beautiful room in the unique section with a killer, balcony, and immaculate clean scenario. No smell in the room, no dampness, the air conditioner rocked, and every aesthetic was very intelligently appointed. Victor made all our dinner reservations for us and got us into every restaurant at our desired time switching it up each night with a good flow. Again, I can’t say enough on how much he was on top of everything. He also arranged our spa treatments, and any other needs that we had during our stay.
The resort is absolutely stunning and I think very well thought out, walking distances weren’t that terrible, a ton of visually appealing artwork randomly throughout the resort. The unique beach was spot on with the unique beach restaurant, and how it was arranged for ease, quickness, and convenience. The pool was beautiful too, we spent most time at the beach because the whole scenario on the unique side was just a great touch.

- The overall property is very well thought out, with many venues, bars, shops, all beautifully appointed to the theme it was.
- Drinks at the bars were good, sometimes you had to instruct, but every bartender wanted to please you. Large portions on the drinks. No water down alcohol.
- Keep in mind, not totally top shelf, liquor, but acceptable brands.
- Surprise around every corner, cute little cats everywhere, and overall just a great vibe.

Check out was a breeze, totally organized by our butler, Victor, and had the pleasure to say goodbye to Marcela who checked us out with professionalism and personality.

Great place, I do highly recommend if booking here do the unique room category, because it comes with all the perks, little touches, and special people that you interact with, it really made our vacation one of the best we’ve been on in a while, and we’ve been that Dominican 12 times, all different resorts.

The resort is beautifully designed and tastefully decorated. My bed was comfortable and I loved being able to sit on the terrace to read and not be impacted by the rain.

The resort is large and initially we were navigationally challenged. However, a gentleman from Guest Services provided a tour and from that point on we made it everywhere with ease.

The spa was excellent, however, they should stock water to offer guests after treatments. We were told that they had to order water if we wanted it.

It is industry standard for spas to offer water in the common areas and for the masseuse to offer it in the treatment room after the service. Rehydrating is important after spa services. With level of detail that went into the architectural design and service offering, I’m sure this was just an oversight by staff.

The staff in the restaurants were awesome. Kind, friendly, inquisitive and helpful. Edgar at Mareas made our dining experience delightful . The buffet had an endless selection of food and the Dominican cuisine and fresh fruit was my favorite. The reservation process was easy and on my next visit I will make reservations at the places that I missed this time around.

Housekeeping was a struggle. We had to repeatedly request clean wash clothes even after they cleaned the room. When I initially arrived on my floor, the supervisor was observed speaking sternly to the room attendants about mistakes in general. Later on I would understand why. My room was clean and well sanitized, but until a note was left in Spanish, it was a problem to obtain wash clothes as part of the routine cleaning process.

There was no shortage of onsite activities and having a hospitality center to help book our excursions was priceless.

The pools were fantastic but the beach was my absolute favorite place to be and on my last day, I stayed all morning and soaked it all in for a few hours before heading to the airport.

It was a perfect vacation for me and I’m already planning my trip for next year. Thank you for an incredible experience.

Just returned from 7 nights at his resort in the adults only section. I can’t understand the 4* reviews and lower. This place was amazing.

The rooms are just as in the pictures. We had a garden view and didn’t mind it one bit. The resort adult only section does include families at times although we never heard anything from any of the rooms except for outside on the balcony. The room was cleaned everyday and we had no issue with having towels, washcloths and plenty of bottled water in the room. The rooms are musty but that is expected at any tropical destination.

The adults only pool was the best. Domingo was the bartender for most of our stay and him and the waitress were on top of everything and always made sure everyone was taken care of.

The Boulevard was stunning and most of the time we could walk through it without seeing anyone. It took only 7 minutes to walk to the water park from the adults only pool. Not sure why people think the resort is o big! It was the perfect size and beautiful to walk around.

Yolo was a great spot for lunch (must try the blooming onion and the Philly steak sandwich) and we enjoyed Iceburg everyday for ice cream. Shout out to Dorianra el Oleo at Yolo who was the best staff member we encountered at the resort and Angel at Iceburg!

The Steakhouse was our only disappointment. The steak was better at the Mexican restaurant which we found to be amazing! The pizza at the Italian restaurant was great as well. Breakfast was made to order at The Valley or the buffet with a bunch of choices. Food could have been hotter here but everything was tasty. We arrived on a Sunday night and were able to get reservations for all 7 nights on the app upon arrival.

The main pool is extremely large but unless you go in the morning, it is hard to find a chair. We didn’t spend anytime here anyway as the adults only pool was better for us. We didn’t spend anytime go to the foam party on Friday at the main pool which was fun!

The beach is fine. The boats do not smell up the area and there are plenty of chairs. We enjoyed walking long stretches on the beach.

We will definitely be back to Lopesan and it will be our go to resort when travelling to Punta Cana. You won’t regret booking here!

Overall a very nice resort. Like every other resort, there’s room for improvement but I’d definitely recommend this resort for all types of travellers, families, couples and people traveling alone, looking for a solid all-inclusive experience

Positives: beautiful landscaping, one of the best in bavaro beach. It’s relatively new resort (~ 5 years old) so all buildings and facilities are in a good shape and feel “new” and modern. The rooms are very spacious, clean, and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Food is overall very good, great quality and variety at the buffet, other restaurants (requiring reservation) were also nice, some better than others like the French one (true fine dining) and El Asador. There are so many bars, restaurants including some 24/7 that you will have the option to try something new almost every day

We had the Unique upgrade and overall recommend it for some additional services, but mostly for concierge services. Our concierge (or “butler” as they say) was Isaurybde los santos. He was great! Very quick to respond to all kind of inquiries via WhatsApp. He took care of all restaurant reservations easily and was very accommodating with our request for changes. Our concierge and the hotel in general was not about “selling” anything such as timeshare which was a very refreshing experience not having to go through the pressure that we experience at other hotels when it comes to selling things like timeshare.

The entertainment is on point at this resort, including nightly shows and also day time entertainment at the pool (“black pearl” and the crew crush it everyday). Nightly shows are performed at a proper indoor and ventilated arena.
There is a “boulevard” in the resort with tones of entertainment, random eateries and retail stores… we didn’t even have time to try all but could see things like bowling, coffee bar, billiard, casino, arcade, water park and so many other things.

Improvement opportunities: while the main pool is very nice and really big, I think they could do a better job of cleaning large debris from the pool and vicinity at the end of each day. house keeping was doing a great job everyday with cleanings but we found it challenging restocking certain items. Some were due to language barrier but others seem to be the hotel policy.

We want to take this moment to thank our amazing butler, Jimmy Sosa at Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort. Jimmy met us at check-in and walked us to our bedroom, assisting the process of getting acclimated. We specified our interest in having water in the room vs alcohol, and he showed up with a large case of water. Jimmy was always available, which made us wonder if he ever took breaks… he checked on us by text and in person each day. This resort is massive with so many restaurants to pick from and he helped us maximize our choices within the timeframe.

The most memorable moment was walking into our room full of flowers, sweets and champagne, completely unexpected and halfway through our stay… the element of surprise and attention to detail made the experience truly special. Jimmy’s assistance truly elevated our vacation & helped us achieve an unforgettable time for our anniversary. Jimmy is professional, resourceful & friendly. If you have the chance to stay at Lopesan (which you absolutely should), do yourself a favor and request him.

•The spa is a non-negotiable part of your stay, especially the sauna and steam room
•Several restaurants to pick from at night with special attention to those with allergies
•Different swimming pools to choose from… party vs relaxation. Sending special hugs to our beautiful server Claribel! The adult swimming pool has everything you need.
•Many places to go at night
•Beautiful spots for weddings; we witnessed at least 4 during our stay.
•The beach is clean but small, however, it does the job…it caters more to water sports
•Make time to visit the coffee shop in the morning, it won’t disappoint.
•The landscape gives an extra layer of relaxation and comfort, so many trees, water fountains, is like being somewhere in a tropical forest.
•The gym is modern with everything you need to stay fit during your stay

Keep an eye on
•Cleaning is part of the service, so if you don’t want it every day, you MUST contact the front desk or let your butler know.
•Bring cash, as the ATM was down or out of services for most of our stay

Our overall experience was amazing and after visiting several resorts in the area, this one is ranking number one!.

The upper floors all have elevators and most of the resort is on level ground but there is stairs to get into the pools etc.

Both of those areas were nice and cool when we were there last week. I’m not 100% sure they were air conditioned, could have just been a nice air flow but they definitely weren’t hot.
