At the beach haggle over the prices as tourists throw a price 10 times higher, they do not lose and you do not let yourself get money. The people are friendly, tourists and employees the idea is to have fun.
If you can go outside the complex as there are many shops to buy and make gifts, if you do not want to go inside the complex there are shops. We'll come back but with more wisdom to plan things we didn't do.

They cleaned our room daily and since it was my husband's birthday they had beautiful details like putting birthday greeting on the door, leaving us a decorated pancake and flowering the table in the room!!
We would definitely come back!!
Room
Room 1848 rooftop terrace suite was awful with broken lights the entire week, despite numerous calls. While some mentioned a motion detector that caused the lights to turn off after a few hours, ours turned off after 1 minute of no movement. This means if you’re not waving your arms a few feet in front of the sensors, everything shuts off. Our lights went off while on the toilet, while showering, trying to to get ready, watching tv. It’s worst when you’re in the room alone and trying to use the bathroom. We had to make sure to have our phone for flashlight access at all times. At night the ac/fans went out so we were sweating all night. On day 5 they did at least fix it so that the ac didn’t shut off, but the lights continued to shut off all day.
Food
The buffet food at dinner the first night was awful to the point I was considering trying to checkout the following day to find a different resort. You do need to make reservations for the restaurants, but the app says nothing is available. I visited guest services the next morning and was able to get reservations for our group of 7 people for every night. Best $40 spent to tip the worker and make sure we had good dinners the rest of our stay.
Trolleys
The 3 resorts are walkable, maybe 10 minutes from one end to the other once you know which paths to take. However, if you have older people in your group requiring you to wait for the trolleys, expect to be waiting a while, especially if the trolleys are already full when they come around, which was most of the time. Tip the concierge a few bucks to order you a private cart. Worth the money to not have to wait, and our trip improved once we figured this out.
Beach/pool
The beach is great, they do a good job keeping it clean and we could always find chairs even late morning/afternoon. No beach service, you must walk to the bars.
The pools do get busier, but did appear to have at least some open chairs throughout the day. While some people were saving chairs, I didn’t see it as bad as other resorts where chairs are gone before 7am. The pool water was pretty dirty the days we went on a Friday/Saturday, even early in the morning before people really started getting in for the day. Water was cloudy with a lot of bird poop floating around.
Staff
Most staff are good but some just don’t appear to care. We are used to visiting Cancun annually where the workers really appreciate your tips and bend over backwards to take care of you once they know you’re a tipper. Here the attitude is much different. Service is slow at the bars, but since most people are not tipping, you can’t blame the workers. That wouldn’t make me work any harder either. Dinners were very slow, but it looked like it was due to being short staffed more than anything. Our group left $15-20 tip every dinner, so perhaps tipping up front would have helped speed up service.

We arrived after a 12 hour journey at 2045 no welcome drink and nearly an hour to check in. Once checked in we were approached by a man wearing the hotel logo in the lobby saying what time did we want breakfast we booked 08.30 and he said he would collect us from the room and give us a tour of the grounds etc. the next morning we learnt this was a hard sell of a travel club and ended up wasting 2 hours of our time whilst these staff tried to con 32000 dollars out of us to join this club
Then when we went to the pool which was dirty but there were lots of sunbeds towels were easily obtained however when we went to pool bar the three staff there ignored us whilst on their phones after 15 minutes I asked to be served and had eye rolling and tuts. The drinks were basic there was no cocktail menu readily available and when we asked for a line were told no.
This rude attitude didn’t stop at the pool bar the majority of staff were rude. Ignorant and could not have been bothered. Information was scarce and mainly came from other travellers
All food outlets including the pre booked restaurants had huge queues every meal time with waits of upto 20-40 minutes which in itself was frustrating but once in and you realised there were loads of empty tables which just needed cleaning and resetting but had staff who just didn’t seem to care made the whole experience even worse
The hotel was dirty apart from clearing the leaves away we never saw anyone cleaning the grounds or lobby or bars tables were dirty glasses were collected in filthy bins and just rinsed under a tap. Vodka and tonic was served in either a pint glass or a paper cup with no lime or lemon. There were no straws there wasn’t even a decorative umbrella or puce of fruit for your cocktail and staff struggled to understand us everywhere. The chair you were expected to use where broken and cut my leg as they had sharp bits sticking out everywhere.
They could not cater for the amount of people in the hotel it was a shambles and having paid 4600 pounds one expects at least the basics
But it also has great buts. The main one is the attitude of the staff. You can find wonderful and efficient people (and my standards are low), but most, especially in the dining rooms, seem to even annoy. Slow, inefficient and even angry-looking. Either tip ahead or forget about getting a glass of water in the dining room or coffee at breakfast. Not all of us are equal in attention, even our compatriots come out worse. And it’s not because they’re busy, as there are plenty of staff, but it’s inefficient and the desire to work shines through their absence.
Another big problem is membership. They're trying to sell you some kind of club vip for their hotels, even if you don't get on the Listing that would make a profit. The bad thing is not that they sell it, but that you waste a lot of hours while they try, when you want to go sunbathing or bathing in the pool. Very scarce and unworthy in the proceeding of a 5 star hotel.
The Dinner Reservation service in the app is insufferable. My advice, go to reception and be asked by them. Because if not, you will end up with reservations in restaurants that do not open, despite the fact that on the web it keeps saying that if it is open or that you do not find availability, when the restaurant is empty.
The rooms are old, need a face wash, although I already knew this from other comments.
In short, yes but no, don’t expect an idyllic hotel, or even correct attention, but the beach and resort facilities will make your stay pleasant.
Room are disgusting (at least in the Bavaro part)- electrical sockets are falling apart, uncomfortable beds, dodgy a/c, rickety furniture and dull lighting. Lots of humidity in rooms will make ur clothes smell. Shower stall was literally buckling. We lost power within 30 min of getting in the room followed by a/c issues. You will need to tap ur room card 4-5 times before the door unlocks. This is a huge property with only 3 medium sized pools (not counting TRS). Pools themselves are shabby, debris in water and there and there are big chunks of tiles missing. Palace/Punta Cana pools were marginally better then Bavaro. Food is below par- Buffet needs some serious rescue. La carte were better (La Lola was our fav). Beware that the resort will be slammed on weekends with locals checking in.
We are hoping that Bavaro property will be more upscale and better managed after the 2025 renos. For those who have already booked, keep your expectations low.

"The grounds, pools and beach are gorgeous. The property will close March-December, 2025 for a well needed refresh. "Read full review
