First, the river itself is fantastic. Beautiful, clear blue. Never quite seen anything like it. From fun and splashy to fierce Class v rapids. Second, world class guides - here’s to Garrett, Whitney, and Stan. Third, meticulous attention to safety. I’m guessing the number of safety kayaks and catarafts outnumbered the guests. Fourth, the setting. Simply spectacular, not just northern Patagonia but where the camp is located - right along the banks of the Futaleufú. But it was the people - the guides, the staff, the wonderful Terri, Marc, and Lorenzo, and the other guests - that set this trip apart. If you can swing it - do it. I promise you won’t regret it.
Cool safari tents on a roofed platform with fantastic views of the river. The food was fresh, variable, and plentyful. Wine at the table, a small brewery on site for cool craft beer after an exciting day of paddling class IV and V rapids. Many other interesting activities available as well.
My partner and I went on a week-long multipart trip here, mostly rafting, with some inflatable kayaking and horse riding too. It was utterly wonderful. The guides, the hosts, the food, the activities, the accommodation, the environment: perfect. The staff (and the other guests) really made this trip. The rafting is very intense and exciting in places: just what we wanted!
An absolutely incredible trip!! It completely surpassed our very high expectations. The Patagonia landscape is absolutely beautiful, rafting on the Futaleufu is the best in the world and the Bio Bio Camp is out of a dream. Lorenzo and his wife, Terri, were phenomenal hosts. They and all of the guides and staff were warm, welcoming and a complete wealth of knowledge on the region and rafting. The accommodations are perfect for enjoying nature. You are protected from the elements with comfortable beds and privacy, while also having the wonderful experience of effectively being outside the entire trip. One note, the bathrooms and showers are shared. They are clean and close to the platforms, but worth noting for packing. Headlamp/flash light is a must for getting around camp after dark, but remember the sun doesn't go down until about 10 pm, its summer in the southern hemisphere! Most days start with yoga, then breakfast. Time on the water, sometimes lunch at camp or out on the go. Then opportunities for more time on the water or hiking or relaxing - hot tub, sauna, a massage. "The hot tub is hot and the beers are cold!" We found spending time at camp in the afternoons very relaxing. Themed dinners, fantastic dessert every night! Maybe a campfire or another drink before tucking in for bed. The Futaleufu River Bio Bio trip is an adventure in paradise. If you are considering this vacation, book it now. We cannot recommend it enough! We hope to go back someday!…
Our Bio Bio Futaleufu experience was nothing short of fantastic. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience we hope to repeat in the future. We took the trip as a combination of a honeymoon and family vacation in February 2022. Our group of seven ranged in age from mid 20s to late 60s and everyone had a wonderful experience. We felt welcomed with open arms, treated as both valued guests and long-time friends, and consistently safe and comfortable in what felt like an oasis from the turmoil of the world outside of camp. A few things in particular stood out as truly exceptional: First, the team. Every single person was both an extremely skilled and qualified hospitality and river professional and consummate host. Lorenzo and Terry were the fearless leaders of camp, Jenner was our soulful and intuitive trip leader, Alex and Derick our skilled river guides, Meerko our tireless safety kayaker and instructor, and a whole other cast of characters who were always ready to help or hangout that includes Shana, Davito, Valentine, Whitney, Sky, Garrett, Rio, Italo, Carlos, Edgar, and many others. Second, the camp. It truly felt like an oasis set in one of the most beautiful places in the world. From the hot tub on the river to the sauna to the tent cabins overlooking the river, it was a sight to behold. We felt lucky to call it home for a week. The love and craft that went into creating it were evident throughout. Third, the river. The Futaleufu and the other rivers we rafted and kayaked were not only world class rapids, but also breathtaking in their surrounding beauty. Our guides were experts at the river. We felt completely safe despite the massive whitewater that we passed through daily due to both the skill of our guides, but also all the layers of safety from catarafts to safety kayakers meant to ensure that if something did go amiss, there were multiple people ready to quickly intervene. Finally, the overall experience. From the delicious food to the easy transfers to yoga in the morning to wine tasting before departure, we were consistently impressed by the attention to detail put into every component of the experience. We would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone who was looking for an adventure and chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of day to day life while reconnecting with nature and other humans.…
The world has changed a lot since February 2020, however, we were pleased to note that BioBio's camp Futa remains a magical, pristine, abundantly welcoming, super-fun, and soothing place to glamp and adventure. Having joined the camp several years' ago, we wondered what a return trip would be like... would it be different? disappointing? too much the same? Quite impossibly, it was better than ever! Something that impressed us 'veterans' was that a majority of the river guides and staff were the same folks--a testament to the quality of people and leadership at BioBio. We wanted for nothing. The weather was perfect. The rivers were astoundingly beautiful. The food was AMAZING. The wine tasting and theme dinners were so much fun. And glamping on the banks of the Futa cannot be topped. Kudos to BioBio and their wonderful crew for crafting such a marvelous getaway. We definitely hope to return again...…
This was by far the most soul filling experience I have ever had!! I met the most wonderful and extraordinary people. Everyone is so experienced and friendly. The food is amazing!! Best trip of my life !!
It took me 4 flights and a 2 hour bus ride to get there, but it was VERY worth it. The location of the camp on the river is breathtaking. There are a lot of tents along the river. I stayed in the Apurimac tent and it felt like we were floating over the river. Hearing that in the background at night made for very good sleep. The ladies in the kitchen do an AMAZING job feeding everyone and the food is top quality. The guides are the absolute BEST. They are extremely professional and take safety very seriously. We had so many safety catarafts and kayaks with our group (which just about filled 4 rafts and also had a few kayakers) that it never felt unsafe. Even when most of our raft got tossed in Mundaca, they were quick to get everyone collected and put back into the raft. Aside from the rafting, we also had some other activities like fly fishing and horseback riding. All of it was so much fun. We had a great time and I would definitely go back.…
Untouchably magical, glorious, wonderful, unparalleled, and in bold defiance of superlatives in any language. To go is to condemn yourself to a lifetime of wanting to return. The river the people the landscape(s) the adventure the food. Magical, magical, magical.
Our first visit to the BioBio Camp in the Fu was in 2010. Our second trip 10 years later (6-14 Feb 2020) was another incredible experience. The weather could not have been better. Activities are centered on world class rafting experiences. Our day on horseback was very special. Accommodations, Food and Drink could not have been better. All the staff are experts in river guiding and safety. A tremendous group of guides and guests. This was our 6th trip with BioBio. Another World Class experience!
