Overall, we would say that the hotel itself seems to be in relative disrepair and provides minimum security and amenities. However, the staff is very helpful, the Eggs Benedict at breakfast was amazing, and sleeping with nesting penguins right outside your window is phenomenal. Without the penguins and the good food, I would have only been comfortable with giving this... More

The hotel itself could use an update, but if you are in Simonstown for the penguins, this really is the place to stay. It's directly on Boulders Beach, and there were nesting penguins under our hotel room window. Although South Africa has much fancier hotels, we had an excellent time. Food was ok, and staff were very friendly and helpful.

The staff were helpful and the food was excellent but the accommodation was in need of substantial upgrading. The rooms were basic and served their purpose but were not of a standard we are used to! The location was superb and views were great.

Penguins were lovely, room was clean and tidy, food was good, service was without a problem. And a good buy! We stayed two nights while many recommended only one (not much to do!) but the full day was a perfect relaxing day in our one week holiday.

This is a very old establishment in an excellent location which has been given a lick of paint over the old paint. The rooms are basic with doors that are warped and do not close properly. There is built up grime everywhere including the bathroom, which looks like it is out of the 60's. On our 1st morning at the... More

We were expecting 4* & were very disappointed. Firstly met by unfriendly lady on reception who could not find our booking. First room had no hot water. Second room dirty and tired. First time we had been asked to pay up front.... now we know why! Having travelled around S.A. over the last 2 weeks and stayed in 7 different... More

The penguins and the location were great, the hotel not! The rooms are small and the bathroom needs a good clean,, there is no excuse for mouldy grout. It's the only hotel we have ever stayed in where, at breakfast, we could have a cup of tea OR fruit juice, but not both, without incurring an extra charge.

We had a pleasant stay , room basic but comfortable. Restaurant was very busy at lunchtime and food was very good. Unfortunately we could not say the same for the evening! We should have realised when the restaurant was very quiet apart from us and two other tables. Had to send the steak back as it was chewy and the... More

This was such a fun place to stay! The room was cute, with a HUGE tub! There's a great restaurant at the hotel. And there are penguins right outside the hotel!! I was even woken up one night around 1am by a penguin making noise right outside my bedroom! The hotel is a short walk from town, where you can... More
