We stayed here in September 2016 for a weekend. What an amazing place, with a warm welcome from Ellie, the walk through the woods and walled garden, didn't prepare us for the wonderful surprise of the tents. I wont give too much away, only to say they are everything a tent should be and more!! You don't need kids to...

We had a wonderful few days here in October 2010 when we stayed in the Otter hideout. My son and nephew aged eight and nine back then had a great time. It was cold but every morning I got up early so there was a roaring fire for everyone else. The shower experience is awesome. You turn the crank handle...

Three generations including two under 8s. Set in a beautiful part of the UK and we were lucky to be there when the sun was shining. Ellie met us and was a great hostess to show us where and what and related explanations whenever asked. The ‘tents’ (4) are substantial, very well equipped and beautifully prepared. Flushing toilet, comfortable beds,...

I visited here for five days with my adult daughter , my 13 year old daughter and two grandsons aged 6 and 3. We had a fantastic time. The safari tents were fantastic, we likened it to "Little House on the Prairie" . Camping but with more comfort. Real beds and linen , inside toilet and rustic but acceptable cooking...

My wife does not do camping but liked this! Take some warm clothes though for the cold nights. Very Dog friendly with good local walks. Fox walked past every day. Wood fired hot tub was a novelty. No power except battery lights in accommodation so if you can't separate yourself from your mobile either get a big battery pack or...

Host John was very considerate and helpful. Location great. Accommodation great fun and cosy and rather a novelty too, boys loved the cupboard bed. The hot tub was great fun, takes 3-4 hours to heat but so do many electric ones and not half as much of a novelty for the kids! We sat in it and looked out on...

Everything about our stay with Country House Hideouts at Chesters was fantastic. The room and beds were extremely comfortable and as a mother staying with two children, the area felt very safe. The grounds are stunning and our days were spent watching tadpoles, paddling in the stream, collecting supplies from the bothy and sunbathing in the wheelbarrows used originally for...

This is what you'll find at your Country House Hideout:Tented luxury - A plumbed-in loo, luxurious bed and a hot-tub to call your own, all form part of your personal encampment.Bags of space - With room for up to eight, why not invite your best friends or favourite family?Discover nature - Your family will be off exploring the flora and fauna to get a closer look with the scientific instruments in the discovery tentCarbon neutral - Save fossil fuels, pedal a bike to power up the lights in your tent.Have you ever dreamt of discovering your own secret garden? Fantasy becomes reality at Chesters as you camp out in woods sandwiched between the River Teviot and a beautiful two acre walled garden with its own croquet lawn and vegetables that are yours to pick.If your hosts John and Ellie seem familiar, it is quite probably because you have seen them on Channel 4's 'Country House Rescue'. There the redoutable presenter Ruth Watson pooh-poohed their dream of making their own beer from the fruits of their land. Well, the Scottish Borders Brewery is now a reality, just the other side of the river from your tent, using barley from the field before you to make their real ale. The whole estate is a playground, full of delightful nooks and crannies, home to sheep, roe deer, pheasants, partridges and of course a run of salmon and trout you can hire a rod for. ... more   less
