We have just returned from spending two nights at the English Inn...five minutes out of downtown Victoria. I have to say I was nervous after reading some of the reviews but we were extremely pleased. The staff (Barbara & Kim) were extremely friendly and helpful...The old manor is gorgeous ...the grounds are amazing and I can't wait to go back...

This is a quaint old place designed on the theme of Shakespeare's Stratford. Unfortunately the rooms are a bit too realistic: Cramped, damp, cold and generally unappealing. The location is not within walking distance of Victoria's main attractions but is in a run down suburb. The main building has been partly renovated but in a chrome and glass style that...

I am sorry you feel we did not live up to your expectations. We take pride in the fact that our hotel combines the charm of the past with all the comforts of the present. Our management team works hard to address the concerns of each and every guest to ensure they are comfortable. I am sorry to hear that...

There were very few guests during our two nights. I had purchased a living social coupon for a garden suite, but chose to upgrade to room 1, which is a quaint suite. You do feel that you are in Downton abbey... There are very few "servants", however. The personnel is nevertheless friendly. The gardens are presently huge, with different interesting...

Thank you so much for your review of the English Inn. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and that the mattress and room were to your liking. I am sorry to hear that the towels and housekeeping were not up to par. I will pass along your comments to the general manager to ensure that this is rectified. I...

The English Inn is in a beautiful setting and the building is priceless. On check-in we were greeted by charming staff. The inn's age and neglect started to show in our room. A little time and money would make a great deal of difference. Fix the window blinds so they work when you want privacy at night, touch up the...

In the past, the Olde England Inn was our treasured getaway. We hadn't been to Victoria in a few years and today dropped in to see our favourite get away. What a change. Gone are the beautiful priceless antiques that many enjoyed in their rooms and graced everywhere in the Inn. The ambiance completely changed. The old English charm...gone, as...

We are very sorry to hear that the English Inn did not live up to your memories. We take a lot of care to ensure that the English Inn remains at the same standards that everyone is used to. The new manager of this hotel is working hard to bring this potentially elegant inn back to glory ... but she still has a way to go. The grounds are absolutely beautiful; lush English gardens with mature trees, fountains, and grassy areas perfect for weddings and gents in white playing croquet. The lobby, bar, and area previously housing an upscale...

This was advertised as a 4 star hotel on Air Canada's website and I trusted that. The grounds are, in keeping with Victoria's beautiful setting, lovely. The builidng is touted as one with history and charm. It is old and in need of some cosmetic work in the rooms. I'll work backwards. The included continental style breakfast was served late...

I'm not sure what I was expecting given the low room rates for this hotel but I certainly got more than I might have hoped for. This property comprises a number of buildings together with grounds that mirror the concept of an English garden - somewhat overgrown - but that could use some attention. I've read other reviews that put...

This is a fascinating old building situated in a peaceful suburb of Victoria. It is, however, some distance from the city centre and so you need to drive or take a bus to get to the city centre attractions and restaurants. The rooms are spacious but in clear need of attention. The pictures on the website do NOT match up to the condition. Crown Jewel had no sparkle! The room was big, but outdated and neglected.
