Friendly staff. Large spacious camp sites. Easy to get to. Bring an extra electrical cord in case your electric box is further back.
Great location to hop on trails for walking or cycling
Water was shut off while we were there with no notice
The want you to by their wood and then when you do it’s not totally dry. Maybe protect it a little better other than a chain link fence
Looking forward to our next trip into Algonquin

We spent 3 nights here with our two young kids and this was our first camping trip as a family. Loved our campsite #87 right on the water. Kids enjoyed exploring the campsite and swimming at the beach. Close proximity to many of the hiking trials and visitor center. The short hike to Provoking Falls from the campground is a good distance for kids. Look forward to making Algonquin Park an annual tradition for the family.

Great staff at this park. Friendly and helpful. If you pre-register with your license plate, you can go directly to your site.
Sites are big. Site was full of rain but quickly drained. Mosquitoes and black flies.
Lake is nice....few Canada Geese.
Roads into campground itself are terrible.

Mew Lake is a very nice campground. It is basically separated into three parts. One section is a radio-free dog-free peninsula surrounded by the lake on all but one side. The main section fronts the lake but a large number of sites are interior - this is populated by RVs primarily. Then there is the far west section -- where we stayed (site #77 - very nice) -- no electricity but far less people and lakefront. Closer to the highway though so you hear the occasional car. It's a worthwhile tradeoff.

Powerboats are not allowed on Mew Lake which makes for a relatively tranquil existence.

The facilities are very good. There is firewood available until 10pm each night; the showers are free and water pressure is very good. During the summer, canoe rentals are available on the campground's beach. There is a very small and shallow roped off area in the lake for kids to swim in.

Very nearby (a walk) is a well-stocked grocery (and paraphenelia) store. The campground is basically located smack dab in the middle of Highway 60 (more east than west) so everything is easily accessible.

This campground is not wilderness. For that, you must leave Highway 60. But, if you're looking for a nice site with full amenities, it's worth checking into Mew Lake.

Note, as is the case with all of the provincial campgrounds on Highway 60, you need to book ahead -- and well ahead -- as everyone and their dog seems to go to Algonquin now.

My significant other and I decided to change up our regular camp routine with a stay in one of the yurts at algonquin park's Mew Lake camp ground. Our decision made for the worst camping experience we have ever had. First off, we were denied the exchange of the wet fire wood that the park sold us for a drier bag. Secondly, we had paid extra for the use of a yurt and access to electrical services, electrical services that were not available to us throughout most of our stay due to power outages. We were understanding of the situation, however we were not offered a rebate for a paid service that was not available to us. In addition to no refund, we were also charged a "cleaning fee" upon checking out of the camp ground. Park staff made claim that we left the site a mess and that it had taken them ~30 minutes to clean the yurt. This accusation is believed to be bogus since we had removed all garbage and swept the floors just prior to checking out. This act of dishonesty (embezzlement?) led us to file a complaint with upper park management. It took a month for someone to address our issue only to have no resolution.

We arrived here late friday night after an internet booking (Don't know whey there is an internet booking fee BTW?!)
The site is great, we picked a lakefronted pitch which was nice and scenic, but as soon as it's dark, the frogs start. ALL night. ANd they are loud! So we got very little sleep but overall it's a great place, clean, warm showers, nice beach area and close to the old railway line for cycling too.

This January we took our yearly winter trip to Algonquin Park, staying at the Mew Lake campground. The yurts are heated warm structures where one can sleep and eat. You must do your cooking outdoors though!
The comfort station is open for hot showers and washrooms. The out houses are open for the adventurous.
Check in is a breeze at the East or West Gate of the park. There you get your key, and you're in.
There is a host that lives in the park during the winter who can help you out with inquiries.
This year the skating rink was open for additional activities.
Our favorite pas times there are the marvelous track set cross country skiing at Leaf Lake and Fen Lake trails, as well as the wonderful snow shoeing. There is numerous marked trails to snow shoe from along the highway, or you can trek out back of the campground to the Track and Tower hiking trail.
There is lots to do, enjoy the great outdoors of Algonquin Park year round!

Mew Lake is a lovely campsite. You can book it online via the Ontario Parks website, where you can also choose your pitch. All of the pitches are massive (well, they seemed that way to us, anyway), and even though the website listed the privacy of ours (131) as 'low' I thought it was nicely secluded and didn't feel at all overlooked. This campsite is smaller than the nearby Lake of Two Rivers site and it also has a radio-free and dog-free area. We camped in this part - on reflection, it might've been nice to have some music but then we didn't actually have a radio with us - and it was really quiet at night. You get ample space to pitch a tent, park a car and build a fire; we also had a picnic table. They have long drop-type toilets dotted around the campsite and a 'comfort area' with proper flushing loos and showers near to the entrance (about a five minute walk from where we camped). I couldn't figure out where to wash up dishes, though. There's a beach too and Mew Lake is about a 15-minute walk from the Lake of Two Rivers shop, which is OK for basic things but does not sell alcohol or much in the way of meat - so if you are planning a barbecue it's probably better to bring food and drink with you or instead drive to the Freshmart at Witney, which is only 20 minutes or so and has a much better range (and a beer shop nearby!).

Algonquin is a gorgeous place - I wish we could have stayed for longer. One day we hired bikes and did the Old Railway Trail, which is 10km each way. This is a great site if you want to camp but you're not quite brave enough or don't have enough time to go into the more isolated park interior.

We are avid family campers and have been all over our province to stay at provincial parks. We stayed at Mew Lake Provincial Park this past weekend and had a great time. The sites were all very large and if you were tent camping (or didn't require electricity) there were some FANTASTIC waterfront sites. The park has some amazing trails for hiking and we also enjoyed the short trail between Mew Lake and Lake of Two Rivers Campground. The blueberry picking at Mew Lake was unlike anything I have ever seen. So delicious and seriously plentiful. The Algonquin Visitors center is an amazing educational facility with stunning views. Opportunities for photography in the park are AMAZING. The beach at this particular park was a bit disappointing but, don't let that stop you from booking. There are several other beaches within a short drive (5 mins) from Mew Lake. We went to EAst Beach and also have previously used the Lake of Two Rivers BEach. If you are a trailer camper and need to fill with water before parking, remember that there is only one dump station in the park and it was about a 5km drive from Mew Lake but, still within the park. The Algonquin store and restaurant are also worthy of visiting....lots of ice cream selection for the kids. Our only regret was that we didn't book a week!

I start with the fact that we have also very recently stayed at Achray Campground, Eastern Algonquin Park.
By comparison, Mew Lake is not the place to camp if you want an 'Algonquin Park' experience.
1. It is too near the busy highway that forms the main transport corridor through the Park.
- So it has traffic noise, even at night.
2. The lake itself is tiny, fish-less, right beside the highway and NOT CONNECTED to any other river or lake.
- So you cannot canoe anywhere from your campsite - except in tiny 10 minute circles, and that gets boring really quick.
- And it certainly doesn't feel like Algonquin when you see/hear the cars on the highway from your canoe!
3. The campground charges $6.50/bag for their wet firewood and you'll need two bags per night if you like a roaring fire. Kindling is extra, and there is no self-collection of kindling permitted.
4. There is a beach, but the geese owned it when we were there.
- So there were lots of goose droppings all over the 'beach' and in the swimming area water. Plus there were anxious geese defending the beach for their goslings (past the 'cute' stage).
5. There are no visible large animals, however:
There were reportedly bears in the area when we got there, so extreme caution with food was essential.
- Okay this may sound like a positive, because we all love cute teddy bears but these bears are never visible - only a possible nuisance/threat.
6. We stayed at a Yurt (a tent-like hut you can rent) and to do so you pay a $100 deposit for cleaning. When we were ready to leave, the staff took an extra 15 minutes to go and check that our yurt was clean (it was) before refunding our deposit on our credit card.
- We felt this treated us like children. This is a local Mew Lake management issue, because Achray Campground also has yurts and doesn't do this.

On the plus side:
1. It is really easy to get to Mew Lake from the main Highway 60 West Gate, and this can save hours of travelling to a more remote location in the Park.
2. You are also close to the Lake of Two Rivers, which is a much larger campground and has a large beach, shop/tiny cafe.
- But you have to take your canoe on a trailer to it - not portage.
3. You are close to a few interesting short walks.
4. In July you can pick thousands of wild blueberries right near the recycling bins on the Mew Lake site itself.
5. The chipmunks and squirrels are tame enough to eat from your hand or even drink from the cereal bowl on your picnic table, but of course you're not supposed to feed them.
6. Dogs are welcome in half of the campground, and the people there typically have at least one dog each. Dogs are supposed to stay on their leashes at all times but a lot of owners ignore this at their own campsite.
- The dogs can be noisy, but we found the owners chasing their dogs even noisier.
7. The main washrooms/showers are okay, with hot water and flushing real toilets.
- But that's hopefully not what you are coming to Algonquin for, is it?

In summary:
Stay somewhere else if you are looking for an authentic Algonquin wilderness experience, or you might as well be in ANY normal Ontario Provincial Park if you stay at Mew Lake.

All the information for camping at the park can be found on their website search google for Ontario Parks website . You can reserve campsites 5 months in advance for Ontario Parks and the cost varies depending on which site you book. At mew lake there is a comfort station (bathroom and shower facility) walking distance from most sites. I have only stayed at this campground but there are many campgrounds in Algonquin Park. Check out the website for more information. Hope that helps :)
