This is not your average B&B. Marilyn and Bert have created such an enjoyable B&B experience! The previous reviews say it all. I would add that the place is great for stargazing. The house has a terrace facing east and a porch to the west. Bring your binoculars or telescope, bring your wine, enjoy!
My partner and I prefer to stay at B and Bs when we travel. We enjoy the connection to local people and conversation. We prefer to support local business and have always enjoyed socializing and getting to know people. Our stay at this lovely secluded B and B is sadly our last. It was the finally destination on a long trip that took us from coast to coast. It included a speaking engagement, to a wedding and visiting family and friends. Overly exhausted by all the activity when I booked this place online I didn’t pay attention to the number of people. We were running behind schedule the day of our arrival and we were late for a dinner engagement. When we arrived we were quickly greeted outside and confronted by the owners. They are a lovey older couple but sadly the interaction left us both feeling horribly uncomfortable. After the interaction I assured them it was an honest mistake and I would pay for my spouse. There were a series of accusations suggested about previous clients and we were lumped in with them. We got settled and left for dinner as we were now very late. During our evening out I checked my booking on line and missed the detail on my iPhone at the bottom of the screen for number of guests. In the morning prior to breakfast I provided the owners an envelope with a letter of apology and more cash that exceeded the amount for an additional guest as outlined on line. This is a beautiful spot and I highly recommend staying here. As we left the next morning they both apologized and thanked us for our honesty and stay. Lesson learned. Check details carefully when booking on line. For us, we’ve now moved on to staying at chain hotels when we travel as we no longer feel comfortable engaging at a B and B level. …
Breakfast is the other half of B & B, and Marilyn spoiled us with a delightful stuffed French toast, fresh fruit salad, fresh muffins, sausages, all the coffee we could consume and orange juice. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with WIFI. The location is outside of Fergus, down a dirt road that had just been freshly graded. Charming. We hope to return. Lots to discover in this area.
Riverwood Retreat is Bed'n Breakfast as its very best. The place looks stunning, both inside and outside. The rooms, bed and pillows are very comfortable. It's VERY quiet and piecefull. The breakfast was excellent. And the owners are wonderful people that we would love to meet again. It can't be better than this!
A luxurious, charming house out in the country. Lovely rooms, very well equipped. We also had access to a living room with TV, a small dining room and the nicely maintained grounds and nature trails surrounding the property. Our charming hosts, Bert and Marilyn joined us for a delicious and plentiful breakfast. The property is located about 13 km north/east of Fergus,- close enough to the picturesque villages of St. Jacobs, Elora, Elmira and Heidelberg.
