We really loved Excellence Punta Cana. The place is beautiful and the staff wonderful and made everything exciting. Here's the Good, Bad, and Ugly: Restaurants: Lobster House (seafood), Oregano (Italian), Spice (Japanese), Kitchen Table (breakfast/lunch buffet) were really top-notch in terms of appearance, quality of food and service. In all cases, portions are small, but that is actually a good idea because it reduces the urge to eat too much. And if you would like more, just order it. Two of us ordered four salads at Oregano and then just poured the one dish into the other so we both had a "double" salad which was effectively the size of a single salad. Events: Zumba and volleyball in the pool, bingo, darts, billiards all are great fun and there if you want them. The evening entertainment was varied and high quality and approximately 7pm to midnite each nite between live bands, singers and shows. Great news: the pool and beach are NOT, repeat NOT, overcrowded with books and towels "saving" a lounge chair, etc. There was plenty of room almost anywhere you wanted it all day, and we didn't have the upscaled package which had even more room. Ocean: The ocean is closed to swimming about 99% of the time, there are numerous signs saying Excellence is not responsible for injuries etc., no lifeguard and the ocean is rough. However, no one stops you if you go out, and I grew up with rough ocean waves so it was fine for me, but may not be for others. Pro Tip: Bring a lot of clothes! We had beach/pool time all day and then dinner/show time at night. Clothes get wet from the ocean/pool and sweaty from the humidity and do not dry off, so we ran through two sets of clothes every day. Bad: ONE. The lights, A/C, clocks, all power goes off in the room to save energy if there is no motion for a few minutes. With my wife twice and me once we were alone in the room on the toilet and the place went completely dark! I resolved this by sliding open the toilet door, taking the extra roll of toilet paper and throwing it through the bathroom into the hallway, which created motion and turned the electricity back on. TWO. Staff at restaurants is instructed to fill the least desirable tables first. This happened to us multiple times at both Excellence Cancun and Punta Cana. If you ask, they will change it to near a window or ocean view or whatever. Otherwise, we ended up next to the kitchen door or entrance or dirty dishes or in the flow of waiters and guests to other tables. Consistently annoying policy, but easily resolved by asking for a different table. Ugly: Every "all-inclusive" we looked at included in the price a round-trip shuttle transfer airport to hotel. Not this one! And we booked it from the Excellence site, stayed four nights. Their excuse was we booked the plane at the same time. This is dishonest, it should be included in the price, not whoops there's an extra $200 charge after you booked.

We had a fabulous vacation even amid the threat of a tropical storm. We visited to celebrate our 52nd wedding anniversary. From the time we met our driver to the resort, to our "welcome home" greeting from the gentleman that opened our doors at the resort, we felt so blessed to be there. The entire facility is so clean and beautiful! Every staff member from any area greeted us in some manner. We were housed in the Club level suites which included designated concierge staff, pools and beach areas. Well worth the little cost to upgrade in my opinion. On our first day we arrived early evening when there was a special dinner being held which we attended. The area was decorated with lights and streamers plus there were special dinner cocktails and foods. It was a great way to start! The next day we had breakfast and went to the Club pool where we were greeted by Hendricks the pool concierge who gathered towels, made up our lounge area, then brought us drinks. He checked on us all day it seemed. In the pool we met other couples from the USA and England. After dinner we watched a great show of a singers calling themselves "The Latin Tenors". Later that night into the early morning I became ill with gastrointestinal problems. My wife reported it to the Club concierge staff. While I tried to treat myself with common OTC treatments, I was not feeling better the next day. The Club concierge called to check on me and suggested I see the doctor on site. This service is not included in fees already paid. One of the gentlemen walked me to meet Dr. Carlos Jose Del Rosario. The doctor had studied and lived in New York so communicating was simple. He did a thorough exam and prescribed some electrolytes and a medication. Later in that day and the next he called me to see how I was doing. I am happy to say that within 24 hours of taking the first dose I was so much better. There were out-of-pocket costs, but I will submit those for reimbursement to my insurance once that I am home. The next few days were just fabulous. We also want to mention that Carmen in Housekeeping, our room attendant, checked on me regularly. She was so nice. Three days before we were to leave, the threat of Tropical Storm Franklin began. Waves of bad weather came and went over the next couple of days. The resort kept us in constant update via paper, email and text communications during that period. It was also fascinating to watch as the grounds staff prepared for the coming winds, rain and waves. It became some of my entertainment since the beach was closed. While the rain fell heavily and the winds were as big as I have ever seen, the facility seemed unscathed. On one of those nights, we went to dinner at "The Grill", where we had Emannuel as our waiter. He was so accommodating and helpful in making our dinner so special. He stood up for us and made a mistake made by the kitchen staff correct. Way to go Emannuel! The next day was beautiful again. So, I did experience some things that some may find unsettling, but I still had a fabulous experience, and we will return. Every waiter, bartender or wandering wait staff were fabulous and deserve recognition as they all were outstanding.

My girlfriend and I went to my best friends wedding at Finest Playa Mujeres last year and just absolutely fell in love with The Excellence Collection brand. We chose Excellence Punta Cana this year because we wanted to try the DR instead of Mexico as well as choose an adults-only resort. The experience we received throughout the week was nothing less than exceptional, from the check-in desk to the entertainment to the poolside service. We mostly sat pool side throughout the week, enjoying the activities such as volleyball, bingo, zumba, and yoga. 29, Versace, Coca-cola, and Shaggy did such an incredible job making us feel like family and keeping us entertained. By the time our drinks were empty, servers promptly greeted us and got us refills. Same with the poolside lunch service; burgers, hot dogs, and pizza served to you every day.
The resort itself was beautiful and clean, we enjoyed walking the beach, boardwalk, and the beautiful large botanical garden. We got the Junior Suite Garden View and the room was perfect for the 2 of, we enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the morning and evenings while we had our coffee or a nightcap.
The food and restaurants were very good too. I had one of the best steak and scallops of my life at Chez Isabelle, DO NOT SKIP this restaurant during your stay. Agave (fish tacos), Spice (dumplings, siu mai, and dragons kiss), and Oregano (spaghetti and lasagna) were close seconds, our only regret is we didn't get to do the hibachi. We had a reservation at 9:45pm (only one we could get) the night of the circus so we canceled to go to that instead and it was totally worth it.
The night time entertainment is second to none, the acts they bring in every night are true professionals. We really enjoyed the 70/80's disco performance, the circus, and the rock show.
Our only complaint was the location of the pool bar, it's tucked back in a corner away from the main pool that really doesn't see a lot of sunlight during the day. This is negated by the drink service at the pool being so good. We also loved the martini bar with the bartenders who made bird sounds, it made the experience so much fun!
The transfers through the resort were on time and we had private Suburban's pick us up and drop us off, made you feel like royalty! This was a huge perk of booking directly through the resort.
We are truly in love with the Excellence Collection brand and will no doubt be returning!

What can we say about the Excellence Punta Cana, but that it was truly excellent! From the airport shuttle to our champaign arrival, first class all the way. The resort itself is beautiful and by far the cleanest I have ever been to. The staff keeps everything from the rooms, pools and beach top notch clean (thank you Juana our housekeeper!). This facility is laid back, most people here just lounged by the pool and relaxed (and drink!) all day (thank you Roseangelia for all the yummy drinks!). One thing that was brought to our attention about this site, because of its location there are no locals on the beach at all bothering you, which was so nice. We just loved how attentive and kind the staff was to everyone. Hendrux was wonderful at the hot tub every morning while we sipped yummy lattes made by Katty and Cendri at Aroma (thank you!!). We attended all the show and enjoyed them as well as the cigar making class (thank you Joy Boy!). We had friends that previously stayed at Sandals and Secret resorts and commented that the food at Excellence was way better....I couldn't agree more. My husband and I will definitely come back and/or visit other Excellence properties. Thank you for making our vacation relaxed and enjoyable!!

We stayed at Excellence Punta Cana from December 15 - 22, 2023. This is the first time we’ve been to Punta Cana and the first time in 20 years since we had done an all inclusive resort. We usually choose cruise vacations. Our room was a junior suite garden side room and we had chosen to upgrade to the excellence club. To say that the service at this resort was impeccable is an understatement. We have done a lot of cruises on different cruise lines and we thought the service there was great but this resort was by far the best, everyone we met was friendly, helpful, restaurant staff were amazing our room service, bar service on the beach etc. we can’t say enough about the staff. We booked with Seasonal Transfers to take us to/from the airport (this is a transfer service that books exclusively with excellence resort). They were amazing, it was seamless and easy. When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with champagne and checking into our room was extremely easy took no time at all. The resort itself is beautiful the excellence club side had its own part of the beach, a specialty bar as well as an additional pool, a club restaurant, and other perks. There are so many restaurants we ate at a different spot each night - sushi, Mexican, seafood, Italian, steakhouse, French and the excellence club Magna restaurant, which we ate at every day for breakfast and once for supper, it was beyond amazing. So many of the staff were superb I should mention them all but specifically Jensel at Magna restaurant and Jose who worked breakfast at Magna and Dinner at Spice sushi restaurant. These two gentlemen were top notch, and deserve great praise for not only their work ethic and service, but friendly, wonderful personalities!!! The staff alone will bring us back to this resort. Our room was beautiful and the resort itself was nicely laid out with many different bars at least three pools, one which ran the length of the resort, and there were chairs on the beach and at the pools for everyone you never had to worry about getting a chair. The bar service was impeccable. The drinks were made perfectly. I am gluten free and I was concerned about whether I would be ok food wise at the resort but they asked every time we ate if either of us had a food allergy, and then I also made it a point to mention to our waiter or waitress that I was gluten-free as well. There was only one time at the Italian restaurant where I was served the wrong pasta, they realized their mistake after I double checked with them and brought a new dish our so it worked out fine. We also had massages at their spa which were definitely worth it and did a day excursion which included zip lining, horseback riding, dune buggy’s, a meal, etc. which was an awesome day, our tour guide with the La Hacienda tour company was the best we ever had! Overall, we highly recommend this resort!!!

The resort is beautiful. There are places where it's showing its age a bit, but not in a way that detracted from our stay at all. Things I wish I'd known ahead of time: there's a steamer and distilled water in the room for your clothes. They provide little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel, as well as bars of soap, body lotion, cotton balls, qtips, a toothbrush, and a little tub of toothpaste. I'm not sure if it was just our week, but the resort was very quiet and not at all crowded. It had a very relaxed vibe - not a "let's get drunk and party" atmosphere. They had some pool activities: water aerobics, bingo, name that tune, and salsa lessons. The activities team was very fun, especially Luis and Joy Boy. All of the resort staff was friendly and helpful.
The buffet is open for breakfast and lunch, and had a wide variety of food available. There is a coffee/ice cream shop that has good fancy coffee drinks, as well as some with alcohol. For dinner, the buffet is closed but there are half a dozen specialty restaurants. They don't take reservations (except for the one that you can go to only if you upgrade to the private pool area), but we only had to wait for a table once during the week we were there (and I think that was because two of the restaurants were closed for maintenance). The food was quite good. We've been to several all-inclusive resorts and it was definitely the best food out of all of them.
The beach was pretty - they must rake the seaweed every morning because I never saw any. The sand is brown rather than white, but lovely. You can wade out fairly far before it gets deep, which is good because it was windy when we were there. There was a red flag out the whole time we were there, and the lifeguard wasn't letting anyone in the water one of the days. I'm not complaining - I certainly had no interest in drowning on vacation.

Already at the reception we felt welcome. Hector from the front desk and Michael spread the good Caribbean vibe we had hoped for. The suite was beautiful with views of the pool including the pool bar “Sol”, as well as the beach and the sea. The team of the pool bar spoiled us with refreshing cocktails, “Dominican Water”, water but above all with always good mood. On the positive side, despite a lot of alcohol consumption, there have never been unpleasant scenes, as we have had to experience in other hotels. The breakfast buffet was very varied, we were particularly impressed by the freshly prepared omelettes, where you could put together the ingredients yourself. The restaurants offered variety for us every day, whether Mexican, Italian, French, Asian or in the steakhouse, it was always a pleasure and a palate. We especially enjoyed the Dominican evening with a lot of delicacies of the country. This was our second time at the excellence punta Cana. As an all inclusive, the food at times leaves much to be desired, but there are some restaurants (no reservations required!) that are actually quite decent. What we love the most about the excellence is the thoughtful layout design of the resort. All of the rooms are nearly equidistant to the pool and the beach, and the walkways to all the main areas are covered, which you’ll find to be much appreciated considering the heat and occasional rain. We’re not drinkers, so didn’t make much use of the bars, but appreciated that they had fresh coconuts earlier on in the day. The room facilities are great too! Having a hot tub in the living room is a nice touch XD

We stayed in a non club ocean view suite (Building 10) for a week in April. The ocean view suites are huge with awesome views, we've stayed in oceanfront rooms in other resorts that didn't have as good a view as this one. We give this resort a 5 out of 5 simply for the condition of the resort, the effort and performance of the staff, and the quality of the food. The resort itself is kept up very well, with staff constantly cleaning, painting etc. The entertainment staff motivates all guests to participate in activities in a fun and playful, enjoyable manner. While some of the nightly entertainment was mediocre, it wasn't for a lack of effort by the staff. The Beatles show was a don't miss, and we were in awe of the Magic show! We found the food to be very good, with a lot of options for vegan and plant based diets. Our favorite restaurant was Oregano, with the hibachi at Spice very good as well. The daily buffet for breakfast and lunch was exceptional with lots of options. The beach is very long with beautiful soft sand and the staff was out there every day cleaning up the minimal seaweed we encountered. The main pool is very big with lots of fun activities, and meanders through the resort with quieter areas. There are plenty of chaise loungers b y the poll and on the beach, and the resort does have a limited number of pool floats available. Two issues arose that made us appreciate the staff even more. On Tuesday night there was literally a tropical storm with heavy rain and high winds for 5-6 hours. Many room and areas encountered flooding. The staff from the resort responded appropriately, literally going from room to room checking on guests, cleaning up rain water, spreading out towels etc. The next morning all that was left from the storm was debris on the beach that had floated up from a river that had overflowed up the coast. Unfortunately the debris from the overflowing river discolored the turquoise blue Caribbean waters for a few days, but again that was beyond the control of the resort. Another example; we went to the hibachi and one member of our party was on a plant based diet. The chef cooked them up some tofu with veggies, then ran next door and got them some pad thai. Totally unnecessary but greatly appreciated. The only drawback to this resort was the ocean can be rough with many red flag days, but the beach is so big we had no problem finding safe areas to swim. All in all I'd say that this resort exceeded our expectations and was an exceptional value for the price that we paid! We've stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach, Iberostar Grand Bavaro, Couples Swept Away, Couples Tower Isle, as well as some other 4 or 5 star resorts and this one ranks right up there with some of the best!

The resort seemed accessible from an abled-bodied perspective. However, there is also a good bit of distance between the rooms we stayed in and the restaurants/main lobby area. Scooter would make sense. That said, it would be worth checking more centrally located rooms. The Excellence staff is very accommodating.
