Riu Montego Bay is an adults-only all-inclusive haven celebrated for its diverse dining options, entertainment, and pool selection, albeit some aspects could be enhanced. The hotel's location garners acclaim for its convenience to the airport and local attractions, though noise can be an issue for guests. While the service earns plaudits for staff friendliness and efficiency, experiences of sluggish service have been reported. The lively atmosphere is a draw for party-seekers, yet may overwhelm those in pursuit of peace. Guest feedback suggests the rooms and overall value could benefit from improvements, despite the generally well-kept premises.

I loved my stay. Cleaning service was great at the cleaning room, they bring fresh towels if you ask for it, also they respect your privacy and don't come in the room if you had put the do not disturb sign. In the buffet restaurant, the servers greet you and bring beverages if you need it. They are very accommodating. Some of the food is kind of did have some weird taste like the eggplant and the sauce. My breakfast favorites were the vegetable omelette, french toast, and, also the codfish. My lunch/dinner favorites were the chicken stew, risotto, and lamb chops. It was too bad for us that the steakhouse restaurant was booked up to reservations. Riu party was great, the crew was great, very talented dancers, and entertainers.

For a first time visit this hotel was a fab place from start to finish with only a couple of minors (tell at the end)
Reception is big and spacious and check in takes around 10-45 mins depending on bus load party from airport (which is approximately 15 mins drive)
The hotel itself offers everything as majority other RIUs, in the rooms are comfy queen size beds, air con, room safe, iron & board, mini bar & fridge, fresh towels & bedding daily, spacious bathroom, balcony (some large or small pending on room) cleaners come daily and do a top job.
Restaurants are busy at all mealtimes, but still plenty of seating available, food is good with plenty of variety. Speciality restaurants are a nice break for an evening meal (recommend the mixed grill for 2 @ steakhouse, very nice)
One other eatery that needs a mention is the jerk bbq station by the pool everyday (a very tasty dinner time snack)
Pool bar is really busy throughout the day, we dipped into the pool opposite and walked up to the bar behind in the end
Sports bar 24hr with plenty US sports on tv, 2 pool tables and 24hr snacks.
The beach is lovely with plenty trees to cover under and loads more sun beds (as is by all pools, no need to worry about beds)
The pools and sea are cool at first then warm up to like being in bath water on the gorgeous hot days.
Lastly, the entertainment team, I gotta say, they work their socks off all day from by the pool fun and games through to evening times on stage doing some great dance routines, can’t remember all names but a massive well done to them.
All in all, it’s a lively hotel from dawn till dusk and makes a holiday very enjoyable

From start to finish this hotel has gone above and beyond to ensure we had a great holiday, The staff where very friendly (with the exception of 1 incident whereby the exodus bar staff completely ignored us) always cheerful and a pleasure to be around.
Our room was in Villa 1 and was lovely, very spacious, clean and comfortable, the coffee maker was a great addition. There was a regularly well stock mini bar, optics, safe, iron, ironing board and dressing gowns, in the bathroom was a pretty decent hairdryer (for hotel standards) and power socket for toothbrushes/shavers. The housekeeper was excellent at ensuring we had clean towels everyday and bedding as required, she provided us with extra pillows, no problems, she even left us with a different piece of "towel art" everyday.
Dining around the hotel was very good for an all inclusive hotel, the food was always hot and plenty of variety, there are 4 other onsite restaurants (we used these often and doesn't appear to be a once per week usage like other places we have stayed) our favourite was the Kulinariam, though the Italian one was good too, the waiting staff work so hard but always had time for a little chat. You can also use the sports bar, which is 24hrs and has snacks too, you do need to be dressed to access.
There are plenty of pools, loungers/shades, we particularly liked the swim up bar, the staff here are also excellent, always on hand to get your drinks sorted, there are other quieter pools and also pools that provide a party like vibe.
The entertainment staff are brilliant, the shows they put on where of a very good standard, they clearly love their jobs.
The hotel has its own private beach, its lovely to get away from the hustle and bustle of the hotel, take a stroll or hire a paddle board etc. Yes there are the men that bring in their things to sell on the beach, but they stay in the water and will call you over, if that is not your thing they do not bother you otherwise. You can swim in the sea here, there is sea grass but look for the paths through the water, it is quite obvious and lovely to swim in the Caribbean.
Don't be fooled into using the onsite Taxi drivers to take you across the road, they drop you at their heavily overpriced friends tourist type shop and then want a tip for the privilege.

I stayed here for my first time in Jamaica. You can tell the people that work here have been doing this for quite sometime and they know how to anticipate your needs. My flight got pushed back last minute so I greatly appreciated being able to use Courtesy room where there’s a shower so you can still enjoy to the pool and buffet while you wait. Even as a solo traveler I felt safe staying here and staff was very attentive. The breakfast to me was the best food of all the buffets. I did do dinner reservations at the steakhouse unfortunately they don’t let you take leftovers from the steakhouse. The cut isn’t impressive it’s a cheap quality of meat but a huge 10 oz portion. Unfortunately I was so busy I didn’t quite get to enjoy the 5 pools or the night shows I did do the water slides and the club and they were fun. The beach isn’t much to rave about but there are other places near by if you’d Ike a more luxury beach. Overall the resort is set up for you to be able to get a small taste of Jamaica without having to ever leave the property. Which is great for those concerned about safety. They also have excursions you can sign up for so you know you aren’t being taken advantage of. The room themselves were nice and had a full size FREE mini bar this is a nice touch in addition to the welcome cocktail they give you.

The only negatives were the rock hard bed. If you’re used to sleeping on Memory Foam you know the difference. Also I would like them to just have an authentic Jamaican restaurant to their restaurant selection. Yes they had Jamaican food include on the buffet but it kind of gets lost in the mix with the other food options. There’s no need to have a dedicated restaurant for Asian and Italian food because no one is flying to Jamaica for Asian and Italian food!

Overall, I definitely plan on going back and staying here. Without hesitation book it now!

This was the worst resort I have ever been to, not only in Jamaica but anywhere else in the world. I have never experienced such filth, rude and arrogant employees (especially the females) in the restaurants and also housekeeping.
A group of 12 of us arrived at the Riu Montego Bay on 10/17/24 to celebrate a birthday. I was one of the first to arrive at 1:30pm and was told (very rudely) to come back at 3pm because the room wasn't ready. I went back to the desk at 3om only to be told it still wasn't ready, and by now I was exhausted after travelling since early morning. I was now very upset and the front desk(totally unsympathetic) sent me across the hall to the Supervisor. She looked in the computer and said the room was now ready and gave me the key to Room 5305. I went to the room and the bathroom stench was horrible!!! I went to use it and there was feces overflowing in the toilet and it obviously could not flush. I ran out of the room to call one of the housekeeping staff who was just leaving the room as I came in and she told me she was checking to make sure everything was ok. Okay??? How can the toilet be that way if you said you checked the room and everything was ok. In addition, the room smelled like sewer and there were no pillowcases on the pillows. I went back to the front desk and they gave me another room, 5008, with no apology for what I told them about 5305. I could not get into 5008 because the room key did not work! Seriously, it took another hour and half and 3 maintenance persons to figure out what was wrong with the door...batteries in the electronic keypad on the door were dead! This room also smelled disgusting and I refused this room as well. We finally got room 5004 and out of frustration and tiredness we just took this one. A very terrible experience to begin our stay. In addition, we had to call several times to get clean towels, and the housekeeping staff was so rude, its almost daunting to call them for anything. Furthermore, our bags were sent to another room and we couldn't locate them for more than an hour.
The food was not good and very repetitive in the restaurants. For instance, we would go to one of the specialty restaurants and then later see the same food in the buffet restaurant. The employees in the restaurants( not the servers)are rude and abrupt as though they resent you being there. This resort is filled with moldy halls and ceilings and I would never return to this resort. The employees are seriously in need of customer service and sensitivity training and since tourism is the island most important source of income they need to learn to be nicer to customers.
I would never ever recommend the Riu Montego Bay to anyone. I stayed at Iberostar in 2020 and the appearance, service and food was 100 percent better. Don't waste your money at the RIU.

Overall our group enjoyed most of our trip as a whole. The entertainment staff was amazing. A little over the top sometimes but very nice. The Michael Jackson show they put on was incredible. Very much a party atmosphere in some areas of the resort but there is a quieter pool on the side. Thankfully we were put in a villa on the beach so that we couldn't hear the loud music at night. We were disappointed in the resort itself. The only areas that were air conditioned were the rooms themselves and a couple restaurants. Show/party areas all opened/outside. It was very hot and humid. The pools were like a hot tub as far as temperature after 12pm. We couldn’t swim in them after that point. The beach was small and the chairs had mildew on them. No umbrellas but some shade from trees was nice. No waves at all and very calm. The water had sea grass growing in it everywhere so you couldn’t enjoy swimming. The beach was very disappointing. Beware that they allow a lot of locals to come up the edge of the water in their kayaks to sell you trinkets and weed. All day you see them everywhere in the water and they call to you to try and sell you stuff. I understand that’s how they are trying to provide for their families but that should be told to those who book there in case they don’t want to experience that after paying this much for a vacation. Allowing them a certain area to do this on the beach would be great, but the entire beach is covered with them all day. We ended up paying to go to another beach so we could enjoy the turquoise/clear water that we expected to see at the resort. I would take beach towels with you as they only allow you one at a time and they kept running out of them when you tried to swap them out. The food at Pepe’s was amazing but the restaurants were mediocre at best other than breakfast. A lot of options at all meals but didn’t taste that great. The rest of the staff were not overly nice. Some seemed like we were an inconvenience to them. The rooms were nice but we didn’t get a king sized bed. They pushed two beds together for me and my husband and kept tucking in all the sheets and covers in as two separate beds so we were sleeping in different beds the whole week. We probably won’t go back to this resort unfortunately.

We stayed here for a week with friends and we are quite fussy when it comes to hotel stays. We have travelled a LOT and all four in our party could not fault this hotel in any way.
The welcome was warm and the staff lovely. The room was very clean as was the hotel which always had someone walking around cleaning the areas.
We tried all the restaurants bar the steak restaurant as we couldn't get booked into it. We had no complaints about the selection of food available especially with me being vegetarian.
It is a lively hotel with great entertainment by very enthusiastic young people who give their all every night. A credit to the choreographers who obviously put a lot of hard work into the shows.
The private beach was clean and plenty of sunbeds were available though the water wasn't clear having quite a bit of seaweed floating in it but not much the hotel can do about that. There were fellas in canoes in the water selling souvenirs but they weren't pushy or annoying...just friendly locals trying to make a living. Lovely views from the beach too.
The pool areas had plenty of sunbeds so no need to rush to get one.
The bedroom was large with blankets in the wardrobe if you felt chilly. Double sink in the bathroom with a good strong shower and towels changed every day.
We would highly recommend this hotel and it is clear that they are doing their best to maintain a high standard.

Firstly I have to say on reading some reviews before arriving I began to worry thinking I’d booked too much of a party hotel for myself & partner so now I’ll tell you how it went.

Arrived 8th February. Took taxi from airport after long haul you just want to get to hotel as quick as possible…$20
Great easy quick check-in. James at reception was very efficient.

We were in block 6. Nice & easy for beach & quiet but not too much of a walk into the main area.
It was perfectly cleaned each day.

We love sitting on the beach so my partner gets a little shade from trees & I can toast myself. I would recommend taking water shoes only as there’s seaweed but once you pass that the sea is gorgeous.
There’s a fabulous little beach bar which is run by the outstanding Trish who I just kept asking her to make me a different cocktail every time (just not the frozen cocktails served here )

Around the pools they have music & games. Great fun but you really can choose whether you want to be involved or stay away & have a more peaceful time. Totally up to you & no one tries to push you into anything.

At the weekends extra people arrive from USA/Canada for quick breaks. Yes they’re out to party but again you can choose many areas which are quieter.

The buffet restaurant has a huge selection & we thoroughly enjoyed the food. We always try & get the fresh cooked hot food as it’s being brought out.
Through the app we booked the restaurants. We had no issue in getting in.
Except one night we were booked for the steakhouse & when we got there it was closed😂. But we’re on holiday no need to get worked up we just went into the buffet & we visited another night no problem.

As always the hotel shop is pretty expensive so I would suggest to go over the road to the shops at Whitter Village. It’s quite safe & the hotel runs a free shuttle. ( water shoes much cheaper if you haven’t taken any)

At breakfast we sat outside served each day by Abbigay who looked after us so well. She’s such a very special lady 💕
In the evening in the buffet the lovely Jamina took care of us. Again another very special lady💕
But I must say all the staff here are lovely people who try their very best to make your holiday enjoyable.

The animation team work so hard all day into the nights.
The shows are great & we loved both the White party & the Neon.
Special shout out to the crazy Roly Poly
Jason & Skittles.

Sorry for the long post. Enjoy your stay 😎

We came in November 2024 for 2 weeks and had the most amazing time here, the entertainment staff work so hard and go above and beyond to make your holiday enjoyable, the staff at the bars / restaurants and cleaners all do an amazing job, we got on with the staff in the main food hall, they are so friendly and welcoming, we especially got on with a man called Lamar from the main hall!

This hotel can be quite lively throughout the day & the night so if you’re looking for a complete relaxation this may not be the hotel for you, but in saying that you don’t have to partake in activities or be around the partying as the beach is quite spacious and there is a quiet pool away from the music if you did want a bit more of a relaxed vibe!

We enjoyed all the food here in all the restaurants, especially Pepe’s for your jerk chicken! one thing I would say is the drinks at the bar are quite watered down, you would have to ask for an extra shot or just bring some alcohol down from your room in a bottle like we did to top it up!

There’s also a village just over the road called “ Whitter Village” it has food outlets, souvenir shops and also a small supermarket, the road to cross it is quite a busy road and the lights change fast so just bare that in mind crossing, we was advised not to cross it as it’s dangerous and to get a taxi / bus over but it was literally a 30 second walk, we had no issues we went over quite a few times! just be cautious and you’ll be fine!

100% recommend this hotel!

I went with my husband for my birthday i have been to many RIU resorts but this was by far the worst one. Jamaica is a beautiful place the water to the people and also the food. I was told prior to coming to Jamaica you have to get off the resort to experience the real Jamaica and that's what we did but the resort itself was horrible in my opinion.

Room: The room was just ok we got a king room with no view it was just trees when we come out on our balcony. I can say the rooms was cleaned. But housekeeping was very rude. They moved stuff around when cleaning when time me and my husband entered the room when housekeeping was there she stayed that she can not clean the room while we was there so we left out, while we was standing in the hallway she just walk out and went down the hallway we went in the room and she didn't do any cleaning so I just got towels and sheets and did it myself.

Food: The food is horrible please do not come to this resort thinking you will be full because you will be disappointed. WE had to eat out almost everyday one restaurant that is good is the steakhouse but you have to have reservation to eat there but once you get there the reservations may be taking from the people that's already staying at the resort. Also while eating there I saw many seats that were empty and in my opinion I just felt like those seated could have been filled by people who don't have reservation. WE also went 30 minutes before our reservation time and was still unable to sit until our reservation n tie but it was plenty of open seats. They also have a jerk chicken hut called Peppas which was delicious but they are only open from 12:00 pm to 3:00pm and the lines are crazy long but I will insert a picture of the food.

Entertainment: The resort entertainment was ok they did have party's and maybe karaoke or beach party's on somedays but throughout the day and at the beach there where not music playing I actually over heard a couple of girls trying to get the dj to come down and play some music. Everyday is not when a lot of people is out I will also insert a picture of that.

lastly on my last day housekeeping while cleaning my room removed my iPad and damaged the screen after reporting it to the resort and going through a investigation the resort stated that they couldn't do anything about it because of lack of evidence and of ours as humans who will admitted that they actually broke something because if so I would've have known before it was broken.

But overall I would give the resort a 5/10

Hi, is there any lifts to the rooms please? Or is it best to request a ground floor room?

Based on my experience, it appears that there is one elevator centrally located. With that being said, I would request a room near the elevator.
