We stayed here over Big Game weekend to celebrate my Class's 55th Reunion. The location was great, the catering and the 55th Reunion Dinner were fabulous, the rooms are tiny but very comfortable, the service was outstanding, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone needing to stay near the Cal campus. The Bancroft is a heritage site that has... More

We stayed for one night for a night in this hotel on September23, and I would say it is a charming old-style hotel. The receptionist was nice and quite helpful in guiding us on the places of interest and food establishment in the area. The room we stayed on is at the 3rd floor with large windows, which gave us... This hotel has an awful lot of character, from the architecture, to the recently-renovated period style rooms, to the commitment to offering an eco-friendly experience. The rooms were quite small, but with lovely windows and balconies in many, and the bathrooms old fashioned, but they had everything you needed for a relaxing trip. There was a bit of an odd,... Really enjoyed staying at this old hotel with its dark wood and aroma of freshly baked scones winding up the steep staircase. The rooms were small but comfortable with french doors that opened to let in fresh air. The bathrooms are dated, but clean and functional. They serve a good continental breakfast in a nice breakfast room with window seats.... More

Sadly we were assigned rom 204 after an exhausting 10hour car ride we checked in lugged up luggage to realize Michelle gave us wrong keys. Anyway Around 11ish we heard loud noise from room about us char was being dragged back and forth across wooden floors plus loud laughter. Finally fell asleep but were awakened to an awful odor awfully... More

Our daughter goes to Cal, we've tried many of the hotels in the area and this time thought we'd try The Bancroft due to its proximity to campus. Rooms are extremely small and bathrooms are even tinier. We showed up at 2:30 hoping to check in only to be told no. Come back at 3. It's Sunday, empty hotel, we... More

The building is architecturally interesting but looks better online than in fact. The room was small and spartan with screenless windows that opened onto the adjacent small parking lot and a Brutalist style concrete lecture hall (Woo Hon Fai Hall). This structure, unfortunately, has become the focus of skateboarders who use it at all hours. I was awakened at numerous... More

Our most recent stay at the Bancroft was to attend a concert at Cal. The Bancroft is literally across the street from campus, next door to the very popular Strada Cafe, and within a couple of blocks to restaurants and shops. There is an adjacent hotel parking lot (extra fee) and bus stop across the street. The hotel is in... More

Folks - this is an old hotel. Given this before you decide to stay here, please realize bathrooms and the bathroom sinks may be small, rooms may be small, but they are nicely decorated. Room 302 has great view, very comfy bed. Service seemed fine, but we were there for a Paul Simon concert and Bancroft had best location for... More

I stayed here recently on a business trip. The staff are wonderful and accommodating, though there was a miscommunication on my late check-out - I asked for as late as possible, but 15 minutes after the normal check-out I got a knock on the door asking if I wanted to leave. Apparently a note about late check-out wasn't in their... More
