This hotel, actually it’s called a Motel in the USA, fulfilled all the promisses made on its webpage. It’s quite simple, the bed is confortable, the bathroom is a little bit tiny but works very fine for two. The sink is outside the bathroom. Shower is hot, but it’s not like an waterfall. The room is clean and full of sockets everywhere - this is very helpfull nowadays. Breakfast, from 7-10, is very, very simple. Concentrated orange juice, milk, coffee, bagels, bread, sweet bread, apple, oatmill, flakes, butter, jelly and cream cheese. Don’t expect a big brunch, but you won’t be hungry for the whole mornig. There is a 42” tv, microwave and minifridge - which is not so small. Unfortunately the room does not have a safe. Pros - price, clean, illuminated, close to North Barkeley BART station, good size for two. Cons - no safe in room, no towell hangs outside bathroom, thin walls - you can even hear your next door neighbor snoring at nigth

Arriving late at night and on first impression the place didn't look great, small and dark, the office by the entrance had walls in need of repairing, and the odd sculpted fountain making this unhelpful gurgling noise by the foot of the stairs. In daylight the next morning it was clear there was renovation going on - most of the exterior seemed to have been newly painted. It's a small motel in the usual motor court style, with a center parking lot, 1-2 level rooms on three sides, staircase only, no elevator. There are covered and open parking spaces - ok size although the covered ones more suitable for compact cars. There is no lobby, just the office and tiny breakfast room with 4 small tables. Breakfast is VERY basic - coffee/tea, cereal (raisin bran), milk, juice, apples, toast bread and bagels, plastic wrapped danishes which absolutely could be done without. Our queen room, although small and sparsely furnished, was very clean and new, and surprisingly stylish, with ash colored wood floors, light grey walls, updated bathroom (the stall is very small) and sink area complete with silver toned mosaic tile detailing and granite countertop. Fridge and microwave, coffee maker, large wall mounted LCD screen. Bed a bit soft and could use more pillows (there were only 3). Bright lighting, lots of outlets, good WiFi. Although on a main road, at night fairly quiet (the walls however a bit thin as at one point we could hear snoring on the other side, which was a bit disturbing). Aircon worked well, but a bit noisy and blew right into the blackout curtains making them billow wildly. Later I found out that in fact this was one of few newly renovated rooms - most still have old carpeting and bathrooms (as reflected in all the booking site photos) but will be updated like this one. The place used to be a Knights Inn and has only become a Howard Johnson's for a few months. I'm giving it 4 stars based on the newly remodeled room we had.

I would never recommend this hotel. Complete mis representation of the property. * Breakfast was a joke - a few packaged danishes and a basket of apples- coffee did not even have cream * TV did not work properly * Sink was clogged * Room smelled like marijuana * Likely to swipe a wall when parking because of lack of space * Construction under way in the office * tons of wood all around the parking lot Unless this property sells for $60.00 or less do NOT stay there.
