We stayed in Hostel California for one night and it was OK for our needs. The place is very centred around back-packers, rather than holiday makers like we were. There are plenty of amenities for people to make their own meals, however we ate at a local restaurant. We stayed in a private room with a shower and bathroom which was OK. We knew it was cheap and done on a budget so this is what we expected. Parking is free and easy which is perfect for walking into Bishop. I think we did feel a little out of place not being back packers in our late teens/early twenties, however the people working their were very friendly and it was ideal for one night.

For those wanting to roam around this would be a convenient location to stay. Breakfast is not provided , kitchen facilities available to cook. Rooms is cramped up, but feels like staying in a dorm , feels like collage days. You get to see n meet hickers at the hostel. Wi-Fi is not so good. Customer service is very helpful and friendly. Overall Satisfactory.

I stayed one night in a “private “ room in this hostel. It looks nicely set up, but my room wasn’t cleaned after the last occupant, the floor was dirty and there was rubbish on the table. The shared toilet had pooh sprayed all over. The shower floor mat was very dirty. When I complained, the guy said that he couldn’t manage and clean everything because he was the only staff member there. I left the next day and have found since that I picked up bed bugs from there. I was hiking before so didn’t stay anywhere else and now I’m covered in bites...

Motels are so boring. This place is like a student flat - friendly staff and folk staying there. So many things provided to make your stay as easy and enjoyable as possible. I can't speak highly enough of this quaint and different experience in the other wise bland US accommodation scene. A full kitchen, bikes available, library and lots of stuff to help backpackers and climbers have a good time. Clean and fun! Judd does a great job at the front desk I reckon.

We stayed at this hostel for 3 nights and truly enjoyed the social atmosphere: ping pong, Settlers of Catan, shared meals, common kitchen & evening chillouts. The place was clean and not too loud plus they give you free rental bikes. Definitely very friendly towards dirty-stinky hikers & climbers & the 420-club.
