We spent a night at the Vagabond Inn while on a road trip through the Eastern Sierras. Check-in was friendly and efficient, and the room was clean and met our expectations. The parking lot was pretty full but we still found a spot. A huge number of parked vehicles were work trucks, and sure enough, everybody was up by 7 AM the next day. We would have stayed elsewhere had we known this property was so popular with tradesmen, as we were on vacation and wanted to sleep in. However, I'm sure this is less of an issue on weekends. Overall, the Vagabond Inn met our needs and we would consider staying there again (on a weekend).

We spent 1 night at the Vagabond before continuing a road trip up to Yosemite and it was a pleasant night for sure. The rooms were spacious and with everything you needed, bed was comfy and quiet enough. Everything you needed was within walking distance and it was nice to get some discount at the Denny's right next door (I am glad because breakfast provided seemed pretty basic).

My only complaint is the reception area was very basic and good do with an update, aswell as the breakfast area, not sure what space they'd have to do this.

All in all, I would stay here again for sure.

Clean reasonably sized rooms. The bathroom is tight. If you want to turn on the AC bring a ladder or risk standing on a chair. Parking is adequate. The included breakfast gets a 'C'. Cereal is good, waffles use the toaster. Coffee and juice are good. I'd suggest buying a $13 sausage100 pack from Costco, bake it for half an hour and you'd have raves from the customers. On a per room basis the cost is negligible. Overall, a good property but the tv station choices were done by Donald Trump. NEWSMAX is not an unbiased choice. IF you'd like to watch ABC, NBC or CBS news you're out of luck. same for Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune

We cancelled the host promised but then never refunded us our $577 for two nights we had booked. Four of my colleagues from UC Berkeley stay in Bishop for work (driving through to nearby telescope sites) several times a year, and I will advise them to never stay in this Inn. I am also part of the local climbing community (several hundred boulders) and will advise everyone to stay as far as possible from the Vagabond. Unless they refund me to change my mind, they will lose tens of thousands of dollars every year as a result of this dishonesty. Sad!

Unfortunately, the day before I was scheduled to check-in, the large Creek Fire broke out in the vicinity. The smoke, ash, and particulate matter were off the charts (see image), above the hazardous level. I called the hotel to either cancel and be refunded or move my reservation due to the extremely unhealthy and unsafe conditions. The hotel directed me back to Hotels.com, since I booked through them. Neither Hotels.com or Vagabond Hotel were able to help with a refund or move my reservation. I will not consider booking with Vagabond or through Hotels.com for any service in the future.

We paid over $617 for two nights in one of the Vagabond’s old motel rooms! Dirty carpet, threadbare in front of the door. Floor molding peeling off the walls. Uncomfortable bed. Walked over to the laundry room to buy $3 soda from there vending machine and there are feral cats everywhere that have sprayed urine, pretty stinky. Take away breakfast was 8 oz water bottle, small apple, granola bar and a mini bear claw. No protein!! They jack the prices way up on their rooms during Bishop Mule Days. We have stayed at other hotels in Bishop in past and have never had such a dirty room. Only stayed here because we were close to the fairgrounds. Never again!!

For the past 5 years, I have been staying at the Vagabond in Bishop whenever I pass through the area. However, I must admit that the condition of the place has been steadily declining over the past few years, and my recent visit was the most disappointing of all.

To begin with, upon arriving at the front desk, I noticed that there was only one person working, leading to a long line of guests waiting to check in. The poor staff member was overwhelmed, handling constant phone calls while trying to maintain a positive attitude. It was evident that they needed more help to manage the workload effectively.

During check-in, we were informed that not all rooms were immediately available due to a shortage of housekeeping staff. This shortage seemed to contribute to a concerning issue we faced in our room – it was infested with flies. I discovered that the housekeeping staff was leaving the front doors wide open while cleaning, which likely allowed the flies to enter. This led us to spend nearly three hours trying to get rid of them.

Furthermore, the property itself appeared quite dated and worn out. The ice machine was out of order, and the pool area was in poor condition with broken concrete around the edges. The water in the pool was cloudy and murky, and to my dismay, I noticed used band-aids lying on the pool's side. This was not only unhygienic but also quite unpleasant.

The cleanliness of the rooms was another issue of concern. After taking a shower and walking around barefoot, I realized that the bottom of my feet became dirty. It became apparent that the carpets were not properly cleaned, which was disappointing.

In all fairness, I don't blame the motel staff for these issues; rather, I believe it's the responsibility of the owners to address these problems. Providing the staff with more help and improving the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the property would go a long way in enhancing the guests' experience. I sincerely hope that the management takes action and makes the necessary improvements to restore the Vagabond in Bishop to its former standard of quality.

I've been staying at this Vagabond when I visit the Bishop area in winter, for over 30 yrs.! I like the location, the fish cleaning facility, fish freezer, and fenced dog area. Dining options are easy with a Dennys and Pizza next door, and several other choices within an easy walk. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, and parking is good. If you haul a larger rig, ask for a room in the back facing building near the pet area. The only negatives I can warn about...they now charge a pet fee nightly and the "breakfast" is pretty minimal. But, the best breakfast burritos ever are nearby at Mahogany smoked meats!

In the process of booking online directly with Vagabond, the $159 price jumped to $230 under the third party Reservation@reservations.com. I was not award of a third party and did not catch it until the confirmation email came. Of course, I cancelled but they keep a $19.99 service fee.
Staff was unresponsive when I talked to them.
BEWARE!

We booked a room at the Vagabond Inn based on the fact that it had been recently updated and the pictures made it look like a decent place to stay. Let me tell you, the pictures are misleading. We will NEVER stay here again! The room smelled and it was filthy. We booked a room with bunk beds for my two boys. The bunk room was so disgusting my boys refused to stay in there. The bathroom was old and dirty. The bathtub didn’t drain and the tub looked like it hadn’t been cleaned. I took multiple pictures to show management. I’d hate for another family to have the same experience we did. Hopefully they’ll make some changes after receiving this review.

Hello, The bathroom is in the king portion of the room and it does have a door for the bathroom. The room with the bunk beds is a small room off to the side and it can be closed off. From the bunk bedroom, you would have to go through the king portion of the room to assess the bath area.
