Good for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
It's been a few years since I have stayed in Calistoga, and this hotel's century old charm and elegance is still in top notch shape.
Same European adults only feeling with a calm and restful atmosphere as before. Great hidden gem in Calistoga that feels like a charming European community in a wine country town.
Walk anywhere and everywhere in this central location, yet quiet and comfortable rooms (there's a mini fridge for those of us GF that usually have to plan ahead) and a/c in each room.
While still under COVID-19 restrictions, things have changed, but only for the better. Instead of a voucher for the downstairs restaurant, you receive personalized breakfast items that arrive via room service (which are included in the price for the night's stay).
Particularly notable was the delicious gluten free fresh baked current and cranberry scone (not gritty and grainy) which arrived with local North Bay tea company (Republic of Tea) served at the time of your choice (quite a generous time selection of the morning).
For coffee drinkers, there’s an Illy machine in the room with eco-friendly real tea/coffee and espresso cups, saucers and stir spoons. (Thank you for not having more compostable/disposables)!
Rooms are sparkling clean (A+ for friendly and professional housekeeping service).
Pool is warm enough to relax but not too hot to swim (if you wanted to) and hot tub with the natural hot springs fed water was more spacious than I remember. It has some mineral deposits, and that’s a good thing ~ I want to know that it’s real living/healing water and calcium carbonate deposits are a good sign!
I look forward to returning again.
Even when I can't travel to Europe, or time travel to the 1920's, this fills both buckets with a dose of spa and summertime R&R.

Spent a nice long President's Day weekend in Calistoga at the Mount View Hotel and Spa and it was a delight. Such a great location, the staff was all so nice and friendly and attentive. Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, had great towels and care products in the shower - only requests for the room were if they could have king sized pillows for king size beds and to have curtains that were a little bigger and easier to slide across. The pool area was so nice, spent a lot of time out there after wine-tasting, pool could have been a bit warmer for winter, but for most other times of the year - I'm sure it's fine. And the mineral spring water just feels great in the spa. Thanks again and can't wait to come back!

We stayed for two nights for a weekend getaway to wine country. The location is perfect, walking distance to shops, restaurants, and wine tasting, or a short drive away to wonderful wineries. The hotel is charming and premises are well maintained. We booked a king room and it was clean and charming, but very small. Our friends booked the same room category and got a much larger room with a seating area, almost like a suite. But we didn't make a big deal about it. The coffee and small breakfast delivered to the room was a nice touch. Although one morning we called the front desk asking for extra coffee pot, which they said would be brought up the room, but extra coffee never arrived. We used the pool and it was wonderful. Service at the pool and wine tasting by the pool were outstanding. The spa was great. Overall, our very relaxing and wonderful weekend at the hotel was not tarnished by hit and miss service from front desk.

No warning or advice about the loud, live music that would be playing within 100’ of our $500/night room! I have reviewed Trip Advisor reviews. Minimal mention of noise issues. We made our reservations over a month in advance. A King Suite. The desk clerk slipped ear plugs into our check-in materials. We should have immediately gone back to reception and demanded an explanation. Especially after looking out our window at a trashy lot behind a brew pub. We didn’t because the first night was uneventful. The next evening when the music started at 6:30pm, I went to reception and confronted the person at the front desk. I was told nothing could be done. They were full. He said the music should end around 8:30-9:00. Wrong. He tried to say they really do not get complaints and I asked why the ear plugs! “For your convenience”, he said. We really wanted to stay here because we had done so once before several years ago. Great location in the wine country. I will warn off as many as I can going forward. The music did end a little after 10pm. You might say that’s not so bad - just stay out. Why should we I ask?? Our reasonable expectations given the upscale nature of this hotel and its room rates includes a quiet, clean, comfortable room. There are many options for accommodation in the Napa Valley. I recommend you look elsewhere.

This was my third trip to Mount View, and I was thrilled to show my friends my favorite hotel in Calistoga. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the two bedroom suite was expensive, but it was great to have the privacy. As usual, the rooms were cozy and comfortable, the heated pool and hot tub a delight, and the vintage decor emphasized the hotel's art deco feel.
My only problem was the included breakfast. Every year this hotel seems to do breakfast differently. Last time I stayed, we received vouchers for the attached restaurant and now they offer coffee, tea and pastries in a small lounge on the first floor--a significantly lower value in a less comfortable environment. The small platter of pastries were croissants that tasted like they'd been frozen, and gluten-free sweet bread. We were very appreciative of the GF option offered (we were traveling with friends with gluten allergies). But neither were good, and they were watched over by a staff member whose only job seemed to be to ensure we didn't receive more than one person.
We ended up buying delicious coffee and pastries from Calistoga Roastery across the street.

Response from Derrick Dumont, General Manager at Mount View Hotel & Spa

Dear Piegirl, I apologize for making you feel watched over and not there to serve you. We are there to make you feel welcome offering you a pour over cup of coffee and bring you a pastry or two. We will work with the staff on better service for breakfast. We do offer gluten free and vegan option and are disappointed you didn't like them. Our breakfast program has change a few times and the voucher program which you like had to stop because the restaurant made a change and wasn't open every day. We tried the buffet and it wasn't special or unique. We will look into making what we offer a better experience.

Lovely and restful reset for the celebrating the turning of the calendar year! Particularly noteworthy is the quality of the rooms and experience with the staff. Beautifully appointed with luxurious linens and bed provided more than a good night's sleep, it was a superb night's sleep. The front desk was courteous and accommodating to my allergy sensitivities and having the complimentary continental breakfast delivered to my room at a time I chose was a nice touch. The quality and attention to detail makes this property and the staff really standout and shine. Thank you! I look forward to seeing you again soon!

We stayed here with another couple, and it was a great choice. It is located in downtown Calistoga right in the middle of stores, restaurants, and wine tasting rooms.
We choose one of the cottages out by the pool, and were not disappointed. The room was spacious with a nice bathroom. We did have our own outdoor patio and hot tub. We were served coffee at our room in the morning, plus a few pastries.
Check-in was fast, and the staff was always friendly. From the outside, the hotel looks a bit rustic and older, however the inside is pretty modern. There are 2 bars on either side of the lobby that are separated. The back outdoor area is very large with a nice heated pool, and hot tub. Plenty of seating around the area. And off to the side there is a small outdoor theatre.
We will be back!

I came up to Calistoga on a whim, was able to get a last minute room on a Saturday... Matthew at the front desk set me up, and when I asked of places to eat and taste wine along the wine he guided me to lola wines. I had an amazing experience.
Overall pool is awesome, rooms are clean. Bar in hotel and restaurant nice and recommended by staff. I will have to try it out next visit

Had a lovely stay at the Mount View Hotel in beautiful Calistoga last week. The historic hotel is in a great, central location so you can walk to many restaurants and the cute shops and tasting rooms downtown. The staff was excellent - so helpful and accommodating. Enjoyed the breakfast tray with the delicious breads and great coffee. Highlight is the pool area with hot tub - definitely bring a bathing suit! That was our only regret. Weather was nice enough one day that they opened the outside bar and fire pits which was such a treat. Next time will spend an extra day to go to the spa!

Love to stay here! I love to come stay here for the location, clean rooms, and great service. Matthew at the front desk booked our reservation during midweek with the AAA discount, and assited me with tastings up in Howell mountaibn and Calistoga as well. I highly recommend this hotel for a long term stay and short get aways!

Hi everyone,
The jacuzzi is fill with hot spring mineral water and is heated to about 102 degrees year round.
Our pool is heated year round at about 83 degrees and is filled with city water. Both are chlorinated.
Dear Squevva:
The dress code in Calistoga is always casual, very laid back. If you are going to dinner the restaurants here are also casual, however, there are some restaurants in Yountville where they do have a dress code. This being said, if you are not eating in Yountville you are fine with the casual dress code. You may want to bring a jacket in November as the evenings will get cooler.
We look forward to seeing you in November.
Sincerely,
Debbie Greene, GM
