I stayed here this past week in September by somewhat of a fluke actually. I had an Interval Intl timeshare exchange and was just browsing to see what might be available. This Four Seasons rarely comes up but I think a cancellation might bring it up for exchange. I stayed in a One Bedroom with full kitchen. It was located on Osprey Terrace, a part of the Summit residences I think. It was on the top floor, an end unit. Upon entering I was impressed with the cleanliness and spaciousness. I think it has been well maintained even though it might be ten years or so since any renovation was made. I have read some very bad reviews here complaining about cleanliness, worn out furniture and other things, so I was a little worried. But I was pleasantly surprised. Also someone complained of smells, and bugs, and gnats. I had none of that. The closest pool, of which there are two, was down a flight of stairs. It was also well maintained and the crew there was pleasant and attentive. Maybe the only drawback was that the kitchen was closed and food had to be brought up from the restaurant. So it was a 30-45 minute wait for that. I wasn't in a hurry so it was fine. They said they could shuttle you to anywhere on the property. The other drawback may be the $40 daily Resort fee which in my opinion pays for the parking (I had a car). It also covers other things which in my opinion shouldn't have to be extras for this or any high end resort. At least they might consider some sort of food/beverage credit. It's a lovely setting in the hills of San Diego area. Easy access to freeways. Less than ten minutes to a grocery store. About 15 minutes to Carlsbad Village for restaurants. They have daily housekeeping, mostly just a "tidy" and one day if you stay for a week of complete changing of sheets and towels. Since I'm by myself it was a bit much, but most would appreciate it I'm sure. Overall I had a great stay.

I left my jacket in my room at the Summits. I was at the Meadows and had already called the Uber. Christian got on it right away and as a result the jacket arrived very shortly atter the Uber did. He had help from his friends whose names I didn't catch.

The issues are really more about the management. First, someone had the bright idea of swapping out the packaged amenities (including the bar soap) for the pumped versions. Besides being cheaper stuff, the pumps don't fit in the showers and – this is prety basic when it comes to pumps – they don't pump. You need to pump about 8 times to get any reasonable amount of shampoo etc.

Also, for the second time in our last 4 visits, they picked our exact week to close the Summits pool. Once, I understand. It would be bad luck and occasionally you have to close a pool for maintenance/upgrades Twice in 4 visits, you need to make it good with a credit that we can then use to finance the day rate at the Hyatt next door. The Meadows pool is a long way from the Summits. But they were having none of it despite many complaints.

But the other stuff was good. The staff is of course exceptionally well-trained in guest relations, the rooms, though getting a bit tired, are still very private, well-appointed, soundproofed and extremely well climate-controlled. And Seasons has finally gotten its act together to be an excellent restaurant.

We somehow got the worst room in the whole place, allegedly becasue we requested it (we didn't) so note the room choice thing below.

Dear Guest, We appreciate you sharing your suggestions and concerns with us about your recent stay at Aviara. Thank you for acknowledging Christian's good work in retrieving your jacket. We have shared your kind words with him. I would like to elaborate on the bathroom amenities. Four Seasons as a company is removing single plastics from our properties in an effort to help the planet. The bath amenities have been replaced by a lovely line from France. We are continuing to assess the pump bottles to ensure the product is easily assessible. We sincerely apologize for your being inconvenienced by the Summit pool deck resurfacing. There are many factors such as cost, labor, and property occupancy that are brought into consideration when selecting the right time of year to do this work. As always we appreciate your feedback. We do hope you will join us again the next time your travels bring you to the San Diego area. Most Sincerely, Dora Joyner Director of Residences

You know when you love a place so much that you almost want to keep it a secret? This is one of those!! Location, suites, cleanliness, amenities, attention to detail, and above all, a team that’s laser-focused on making the guest experience stellar. Jessica and Caitlyn consistently checked on us, and had our room decorated with balloons and a banner and fresh flowers to celebrate an occasion my husband had shared with them. Noah and Henry took SUCH good care of us each day, stocking our car with beach chairs, towels, an umbrella and beach toys and games for the kids - while sharing their fave beaches and food spots! Truly amazing attitudes.

Housekeeping and room service as well as the pool team all went above and beyond as well. We were greeted with kid size bathrobes, little stuffed sea lions and the toiletries are dyptique! We were in an upper suite with a washer dryer full kitchen and an adjoining bedroom in the 14 block and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We could walk to the Park Hyatt for a drink or dinner as well but we were so happy we chose the 4 seasons as it was so calm and serene.

We can’t wait to go back. We did 6 nights and it was perfect - we could do Legoland, different beaches, hikes, the pools and good casual meals while feeling relaxed! Will absolutely be back and highly highly recommend!!

Awful since not really a Four Seasons experience
It has none of the amenities that the Four Seasons Resort had when it was operated by an actual Four Seasons Resort and the maintenance fees kept getting higher and higher and higher, and the value of the place is nowhere near what the maintenance fee even is to stay. It took me several years after I got rid of two of the Gold weeks and I had a platinum week left and then the real order that I ended up using was absolutely awful. She Put in our agreement without notifying me that I was going to be paying the maintenance fee for the new owners in short, all she told me was, they were going to pay the maintenance fee, and then I found out that I had already paid for the time that I owned the maintenance fee and you did not pay the maintenance fee after the fact of the year that you were owned She didn’t really care. She just wanted to get rid of it and get her $2000. we paid $60,000 for that week at least and I receive probably slightly over $3000. It’s not that the staff that are running it or the issue it’s just that the way it was set up. It’s nothing more Than buildings with bedrooms and kitchens and whatever that would be in any low and Motel room with accommodations for someone who couldn’t afford a home but needed a place to live and be able to eat and sleep the basics along with annual real estate taxes, but the outrageous maintenance fee doesn’t make it worth earning it. I used to use my Four Seasons credits and stay at other resorts and my last day. I probably met six couples that just sold for a loss. And while they paid more in fees, they were staying at beautiful resorts with lots of amenities. The Four Seasons in Aviara has nothing worthwhile gone for if you’re used to going to nice resorts which Aviara used to be when the Four Seasons was running it.

Seemed or sounded like a great place for a short stay but when we checked into our room it was fairly average. Kinda small, average furnishings, no water or snacks or really anything that makes a resort special, or make your feel special.

Worse was the room we first got backed to a busy and noisy street with the only view of any kind, some power poles and lines. In fact, I believe that's the case for several of the buildings at the "resort".

After complaining they did move us to a different and much better location room, but that of course coming back to pack-up, pick-up, and move.

Also, the highly touted restaurant served a rare (purple inside) steak sandwich, and a really tasty soup, but with no bread or crackers. When my wife asked for some bread, it took some 15+ minutes, soup was mostly gone and cold, it was burnt, and they charged $5.

On the bright side, the staff was very warm, helpful and friendly, the bed was very comfortable, and the very close (5 minutes) expensive golf course was outstanding.....best in san Diego area.

We spent 4 days sharing a 2 bedroom unit with family and it was a great spot to relax after a day exploring north county San Diego.

The setup is great for privacy and for gathering at day's end. Each bedroom suite has a large bathroom, a small kitchenette with coffee maker and microwave, a large closet space, and even a separate balcony, and entrance.

When you're ready to "people" you can head out to the living area, which has a full kitchen, living room with a fireplace, a dining room and another larger, balcony. The views are great and the atmosphere is very laid back.

Location-wise, you don't get ocean views, but due to the elevation, the room we were in had nice views of rolling hills, palm trees and felt somewhat tropical. You are a short drive to the beach, downtown Carlsbad (Carlsbad Village) the train station, or even cool little beach towns like Encinitas, Cardiff and Solana Beach. So many beachside communities to the south or even a short jaunt up to Orange County. Don't sleep on Carlsbad; it's closer to a lot of things than you might think.

The staff kept the units very clean, it was quiet, the curtains kept the room super-dark for late mornings in bed, and the rooms were very comfortable.

I highly recommend this property if you're spending a few days with family in the San Diego area.

This is my 8th Four Seasons stay this year. Mostly international and this one doesn’t seem like a Four Seasons whatsoever. This is a Marriott or Hyatt. Dated. Too spread out. Cheap furnishings for sure! My room is $1200 a night for a one bedroom villa and this is easily a $400 a room. This location REALLY tarnishes the Four Seasons flag! Let Marriott take this over please!

We were thrilled with the Four Seasons Resort from our room to all of the amazing staff. The customer service was a 10 out of 10. They made us feel like family as soon as we stepped onto the property. We were greeted by all of the reception staff. The check in process was flawless. We arrived to our villa and saw the extra work that was done to make our stay exceptional. We requested a tour of the property and our guide did an amazing job. The spa/store staff did an amazing job explaining all the spa services and merchandise. We had dinner at the Seasons Restaurant and our waiter provided great suggestions for dishes, dessert's, and drinks. The dinner service was exceptional. We got to walk at the Lagoon and used the electric bikes. The van service to and from our walk at the lagoon was great along with the instructions provided by staff on how to use the electric bikes. I also used van service to and from the golf course and the drivers were on time and polite. The checkout process was also flawless. The managers greeted us and checked in on us to make sure we were completely satisfied and if there was anything else they could do to make us enjoy our stay even more. I have travelled for the last 20 years for work and the biggest difference in any place you stay is always the staff. You have assembled a great team of employees and they all made us feel very welcomed and important. We appreciate everything they did for us. We look forward to returning!

The hotel staff on site were absolutely amazing and the property is very good. I will say it’s not worth the cost, as nothing is included. $25 for crayons and drawing materials? I first read some of the negative reviews and found them to be absurd, but after staying here for a week, I would say it wasn’t unreasonable expectations by the guests, but the accounting staff and hotel management that earn the 2 star rating.

The pros:

Hotel pool staff, the pool, and housekeeping are world class. They were responsive and kind, even when they were off shift they greet everyone with a smile. Thank you Madison and Spencer, you were wonderful to work with. The property had some typical construction going on, but for the most part was accurate with stunning views and lots of outdoor activities to do.

The cons:

At checkout, room service and crayons were paid for. Like every hotel stay, the pending hold is dropped after 24 hours once the staff confirms it is no longer needed and your stay is complete. This was positioned by desk staff and I didn’t pay much attention to it. A week later, the hold was still there, and even with a paid off balance, I was charged interest for it. I know that part is on the bank, however, multiple management staff stated someone ‘reversed’ the charges. One of the accounting staff condescendingly told me no one ever calls about this. My response was as no hotel in hundreds of visits in my life has held a deposit for so long. She was incredibly rude and even lied and said her colleague addressed it the day before and it will show up by next day at the latest. I made the mistake of trusting her, only to discover 5 days later no one at the four seasons reversed the hold even though the stay had been cleared and the room was left very clean. The General Manager and accounting staff are pretty much unreachable and I’m not sure what their job actually is. The Four Seasons is a typical American, overly oligarch experience where low paid staff provide great service and management pats themselves on the back and golfs all day long taking the credit for the work of their underpaid workers. Disappointed that administrative behavior was so dishonest here.

We booked this spot because it was close to Legoland and we could get rooms next to each other for our family Christmas. Many places were booked for Christmas but we managed to get this.

Check in at the front desk / lobby was great and the staff very helpful. Nice holiday decor and very welcoming. Our villa though was a little hard to find as ours did not have a sign for the building.

We had connecting rooms. One the size of your typical studio hotel , but very nice with a coffee station and a lanai/patio. The one bedroom suite was fabulous with, dining, living and kitchen (full kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine and coffee, and fridge) . Plates and silverware and anything else you needed to dine in, which we did most of the time.

There were patios off all the rooms.

Room service was great and the breakfast burrito was a hit!

We had great food everyday. The Christmas Eve dinner was really fabulous. We very much enjoyed it.

We only had one hiccup in our reservation for dinner but the matter was resolved by Ms Tatkowski.

Can’t say enough about the place.

Hello. Is there fishing near the hotel? I see a lagoon ... on the golf course area ??
Answer from Hani Kirollos
Greetings from Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara! The Batiquitos Lagoon nearby is a protected reserve and does not allow fishing. The nearby lake, ocean and pier fishing requires a permit from the California Fish & Game. More information can be found at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website. We hope this helps!
