We decided to make the most of a bad situation in Los Angeles while the fires raged and the smoke choked the sky. We decided to get away to La Costa in Carlsbad - they incentivized the price via Instagram for recent evacuees from the...More

I have long stayed in the golf villas. Easy walk to the main building, lots of sunlight in the rooms. This time I stayed in a plaza room. If anything, better decorated. Quiet inner courtyard in which to read the morning paper and drink my...More

Overnight stay in #128, no cold water (easily fixed by maintenance) plus a 2 inch long cockroach that crawled on the headboard at 8am. 20 mins later and 3 phone calls got it collected by this guy. WowMore

Great time of year to visit and and it is a family friendly resort. Your enjoyment of the pool will depend on resiliency once you get out of the water into the cool air. I would definitely recommend a car - espicially if you plan on staying 11 nights. Being from Canada, 11 days anywhere in California is not too long ! That being said 11 days in Carlsbad may be a bit much - it all depends on how much day tripping your willing/wanting to do and how restless the kids get. You could consider splitting the trip and staying a little further north and enjoy a drive on the pacific hwy.
Some attractions to consider;
San Diego Zoo
La Jolla Cove
Gas Lamp Quarters

The family suite had a sitting area in the king bedroom part - along with small refrigerator. No microwave. The family suite is really 2 attached rooms - one room with bath & 2 doubles, and then the other room has the living room & bedroom with king. Each area has their own bathroom with tub and shower. I think there are more expensive rooms that actually have kitchens - they are more like condos.
