We enjoyed a lot our stay in Maitai Lapita in Huahine Island, our first step in Polynesian islands after spending one night in Tahiti. We have been welcomed with a refreshing drink and a Tiare flower necklace. Receptionist are very professional. Bungalow on the lake are so well equiped and quiet that you feel home very quickly. I enjoyed the...

We enjoyed our stay at Lapita. The bungalows are spacious and very well equipped. A challenge is to find the TV which is well hidden :-) Premium bungalows on the lake are beautiful and so quite but beware of mosquitos... Bring some repulsive with you. To summarize Maitai Lapita is the definitive place to stay when traveling to Huahine !

Huahine was the second stop of our three island honeymoon in French Polynesia. We had just left Moorea a little disappointed in our selection of destinations. It had been raining and/or cloudy every day of our 5 days. We also felt that Moorea wasn't a very exotic island and it was a beach you could get almost anywhere. There wasn't...

We stayed at the Maitai La Pita Village for 4 nights for the 3rd leg of a two week vacation. The hotel is beautiful and has a fantastic location. We found the restaurant to be great and the walk to town easy. You can borrow the kayaks and paddle just around the end of the hotel grounds to some really...

Arrived at Hotel Maitai lapita after an exhausting 36 hr journey from the uk. The hotel offers transfers from the airport, a mere 5 minute drive away. Our enormous lakeside bungalow, in the style of an outrigger canoe hut, sat on the shore of a beautiful lake covered in water lilies and was home to an enormous eel which we...

La Pita is a beach hotel with a pool, restaurant and museum. The rooms are huge with local woods and artwork. We found the best snorkeling right from their beach. The staff speak English and were very accommodating. This is a destination boutique hotel with a fabulous restaurant.

We had the most amazing honeymoon here. We were blown away by the luxurious quality and size of the bungalows, and the position of the hotel was great. We were able to stroll in to town where there is a supermarket, a couple of restaurants and the 'roulottes' - take away food vans. The overall service was very good, particularly...

When most couples think of amazing spots to get married, they automatically think Bora Bora. My wife and I, however, like to take the less beaten path and picked the quaint island of Huahine for our nuptials. We were married at the Mai Tai La Pita Village hotel and stayed four nights. Eric and the staff were wonderful. Heia was...

This place is terrible. I got food poisoned here; Eric the manager said I was the first but the local doctor said he saw many people sickened from food from this hotel. Lighting in the room is awful, sitting on deck and you will be bitten by mosquitos. No screen doors, lounge chairs by their tiny pool are very uncomfortable...

Rooms are huge and nice. Patio are off limits unless u want to be dinner for bugs. they have no screen doors...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A boundless tropical garden, the secret island of Huahine is a natural sanctuary with many archaeological wonders and other landmarks of its rich Polynesian culture and history. Set on a white sand beach, the Hotel Maitai Lapita Village is composed of thirty bungalows, half of them set around a natural spring pond covered with water lilies. The restaurant, bar and pool face the lagoon and a magnificent white sand beach that borders the crystal clear lagoon. The sunsets here are spectacular and offer a panoramic view of the three other Leeward Islands: Raiatea, Tahaa and Bora-Bora. Conveniently located at the entrance of Fare, the island's main village, The Maitai Lapita Village is emblematic of the mix of nature and culture that is unique to the enchanting island of Huahine. Here you will discover luxuriant vegetation, private bays and inlets, heavenly motus, but also a rich cultural and historical heritage. This charming hotel village naturally blends into its environment as it combines local traditional materials and modern recycled ones. The "Omai" restaurant offers delectable dishes for all tastes using many local fruits and vegetables and of course fresh fish. The hotel's architecture draws inspiration from the great sailing canoes of the islands ancestors, the Lapita people, and the saga of their migration through the Pacific Islands. Archaeological excavations were undertaken on the very site of the hotel and have contributed greatly to our knowledge of the Lapita people and the way they lived. Many ancient artifacts, some over 1000 years old, were recovered and some are on display in the hotel's own museum gallery, including hooks, domestic tools, ornamental pendants, etc. On the island of Huahine, also called "memory island," many monuments from the pre-European era can easily be visited: open air temples (marae), ancient lake dwelling villages, a great attraction to do with a tour guide. These well preserved sites are among the largest in French Polynesia. ... more   less
