My husband and I spent a week here relaxing in the bay breezes with a fabulous view! The facility and swimming pools were sparkling clean and beds so comfortable. Our host, Alicia, helped us plan daily outings, including waterfall and beach hikes, historic parks, and a botanical garden. She told us about local food options, and we sampled fresh fruit from a neighboring farm. A restful Eden for nature lovers!

Thank you Barbara for highlighting some of our complimentary services to travellers looking to stay with us. We have added new complimentary services, an added value to our existing lowest affordable rates . New complimentary services are: exotic teas to be enjoyed in our exotic flower gardens and exhilarating spa treatment. Not to mention complimentary rum punch in the ambiance lounge from 7-9:00pm daily. We didn't stop there and have included the fun Application you suggested that will teach guests plants and bird names while they mill about the gardens sampling fruits in season. We look forward to your return trip next year!

We had such a great time at Fond Bay Suites! We were greeted by our wonderful host Elesia who gave us a tour of the absolutely gorgeous hotel and gardens upon arrival. There were awesome views from every part of the hotel. Two swimming pools, both with stunning views to enjoy. The suites were clean as a whistle, as were the linens. At night we would sit right outside of our suite and watch the waves turn over under the moonlight. Breakfast was waiting for us in the garden each morning. We will definitely be returning very soon. Thank you Elesia for a lovely stay.

If you want to have any amazingly quiet and covid- free time with your loved ones, this is the ideal place. We stayed at Fond Bay Suites and Villa for 5 nights. It was heaven. Our hosts Alicia and Ross were fantastic. I was worried because it was very inexpensive and located on the south end of the island. I shouldn't have worried. It was completely unspoiled. Just what I wanted. Our view was spectacular. The sun rose early, around 6am and we sat outside on our beach chairs baking in the sun and enjoying the gorgeous view while we planned our excursions for the day. If you can afford it, get the villa. It's incredible. Stunnning custom kitchen. Beautful rooms and bathrooms. Big screen tv, although we never turned on our tv the whole time we were there. Private balcony, private pool. Beautiful furnishings.

Fond Bay enjoys 2 beaches: Fond Beach (sandy w/ sea shells & palm trees) and Cobble Beach (very rocky with tidal pools to sit in). You will likely not see another soul while enjoying the beach. Very private. But there is about a 10 minute hike down the hill to the beach. So, don't expect to just fall out your front door onto the beach.

Our suite was very nice. The kitchen was well equipped and we ate in most of the time. There is a local fish market nearby and Ross has everything you need in his amazing garden. He picked fresh basil, chives, bay leaves and even a lime for me, among other things.

We had a bonfire one night down on the beach with the other guests. Spectacular. For me, this is a much better atmosphere than some touristy all-inclusive on the north end of the island. We felt like we got to know, at least a little bit, the culture and feel of St. Lucia. Staying at Fond Bay was the best part of our vacation. It was perfect. Well, that's not entirely true. I wish we had had a dresser to unpack into and I wish there had been an outlet near a mirror for curling my hair. But that's all I can possibly gripe about. And honestly, for the price, we got way more than we paid for. I can't say enough about Ross and Alicia. We loved them both.

I highly recommend hiking Gros Piton while you are there (if you are in good shape, it's about 5 hours total, and parts of it are fairly steep) and taking in the Sunday brunch at Ladera. We also attended Sunday Mass (7:30 am!) in Castries. Fantastic. I also recommend La Tille waterfall (very close to Fond Bay, especially if you enjoy gardening), Diamond Botanical Gardens, and don't miss snorkeling at Anse Chastanet (the water is very clear although they can be a bit snobby so just stay at one of the ends of the beach, we snorkeled near the "dive hut" and it was fabulous.

St. Lucia is very pristine and beautiful. The roads aren't all that bad. But if you stay on the north end (reduit beach, rodney bay, tourist heaven) expect a long, long drive from the airport. I recommend renting a car. It's worth the expense and then you are free to explore the island on your own. We went to one waterfall that was free. But we saw a bus full of tourists there. I wonder what they had to pay for that.

We also stayed a few nights at Caribbean Jewel. Don't go for the kitchen suite, just get a deluxe king (the bathrooms in those are amazing, jacuzzi tub, separate glass shower) and request one with a mini fridge as not all of them have one. The view is incredible off the balcony.

If you enjoy shopping, don't miss Point Seraphine. This is where the curise ships dock. Alot of it is the usual tourist crap-ola. But there's some nice batik. Also, get a fresh mango daquiri at the bar/liquor shop at the end near the ferry. Yum!

Coal Pot and Froggy Jacques are nearby. Both excellent restaurants.

Enjoy!

It's taken me about week to decide how I would like to comment about Fond Bay Suites (FBS). We were somewhat disappointed and checked out early, but for others, FBS may be the perfect spot.

The Rooms - FBS has 5 suites. Three are labeled as Ocean View, and two are labeled as Garden View. Ocean View rooms are about $10 US more per night than Garden View. I would recommend that people staying at FBS choose Garden View for three reasons - view, air conditioning, and privacy. First of all, you would have to be standing in the doorway in order to see the ocean from an Ocean View room - otherwise, I couldn't see the ocean from Suite 4. Furthermore, Garden View rooms have air conditioning while Ocean View rooms did not. We were told that the Ocean View rooms had an ocean breeze and didn't need an air conditioner. My wife and I don't agree. The temperature in our room was probably in the mid 80's during our stay even though we kept the window and door open constantly. Although we were the only guests at FBS while we were there, our perception was that we didn't have much privacy; because we had to leave the windows and curtains open constantly, it seemed that the staff would have been able to look in during the day or night.

The Beach - It is a rugged 15 minute hike down an eroded horse path to the Fond Bay Beach. In addition, the beach is covered in both man-made and natural debris. The water was rough, and there's a spooky little shack located at the far-end of the beach. You are forbidden to bring one of FBS' towels to the beach.

The Pool - FBS has two pools, but one is only for villa guests not suite guests. The pool for villa guests is a small plunge pool. We noticed that by 2 pm, the top of the villa blocked the sun from hitting the pool.

The Location of FBS - FBS is admittedly remote. A car rental is required. The scenery is amazing, and Ross has done an excellent job with the grounds.

The Food - FBS does not have restaurant onsite. While the rooms have a kitchenette, there is no microwave, and frying is prohibited on the range top. There are no outside grills. Therefore, if you want to make a meal in your room, your menu is lunchmeat, rice, soup, or ramen noodles. We could only find 4 restaurants within a 45 minute drive of FBS. They were Debbie's, Fox Grove Inn, Pointe Sable, and the Reef. Of those, we would have considered going back to Debbie's near Laborie and the Reef, which was a small beach bar in Vieux Fort. We weren't impressed with either Pointe Sable or the Fox Grove Inn. There are dozens of restaurants located in the Rodney Bay area, but because of the two hour drive, we only went there once.

The Rental Car - If you're staying at FBS, you'll need to rent a vehicle. Ross at FBS will rent you a 4x4 for $60 a day including all taxes and fees. This is probably the best rate that you can find on St. Lucia for a 4x4. Please re-confirm your rental prior to arrival. I reserved an automatic transmission over 4 months in advance, but still got a manual transmission at check-in.

The Island - We've been to the Caribbean 6 or 7 times since 1999, and each time we've rented a car to explore whatever island we are visiting. St. Lucia by far had the most natural beauty of any other location. However, the island is extremely dirty and had the least safe driving.

In closing, the lack of food options, the distance to the beach, the lack of air conditioning, and the driving times and conditions, all contributed to our early check out. We decided to switch to an all-inclusive resort (Coconut Bay) about 15 minutes away. Ross was very nice, and we felt bad for leaving early. In the end, we decided that we just wanted to have a comfortable vacation, and the level of comfort that we experienced at FBS was not worth the $3,400 that we had budgeted and spent for airfare, food, and accomodations. Switching to an all-inclusive cost more, but it salvaged an otherwise ruined vacation.

We agree with this guest’s comment that Fond Bay Suites and Villa is not for them. We are located in a secluded area and not suitable for those who wish to be in a developed tourist area. Younger travelers who prefer American style restaurants and organized activities would be better suited at an all-inclusive resort. Our suites are designed for light meal preparation and there are several restaurants serving local and international cuisine within 5-15 minutes drive away. All beaches in St. Lucia are public and for visitors who wish to explore remote beaches around the island it is advisable to bring your own beach towels or mats. We provide white bathroom and pool towels for our guests for use on the property. We realized this couple found driving, exploring and natural settings to be scary so we gladly offered to refund them for the balance of their stay and sincerely hope they enjoyed their time at Coconut Bay Resort.

Before I tell everyone how great Fond Bay Suites is, let me tell you what it is not so you go there with your eyes wide open--no surprises. Fond Bay Suites is small, very small with 5 suites (3 oceanview, 2 gardenview) & one very large villa. Do not expect to see many people. The grounds are well maintained & the craftmanship is first rate for the island. Plenty of fruits & spices are grown on site. It is very peaceful. However, there is no restaurant on site, so you have to drive 10-15 minutes to the Fox Grove Inn (best food we ate on the island) or eat the food provided (soup, rice, pasta) for a nominal fee.
We stayed a full day around Fond Bay & the rest were spent travelling around the island. If you want quiet, the pool is great with an amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean. If you want adventure, you can hike various trails. The beach (Fond Bay beach) is a 15 minute walk away (down a steep hill) while the 'cactus beach' (better than it sounds) is about 20 minutes.
The owner, Ross, who lives on site, is as knowledgeable as anyone on the island. He suggested to rent a vehicle, which he will provide @ $60 a day. Well worth it if you want to see the island. The island itself is great, although most roads are in only ok to very bad shape. Essentially, it's driving on the wrong side of a country road, except this road has lots of potholes & switchbacks.
So Fond Bay is great if: you want a quiet getaway or you use it as a staging area to see the rest of the island or a little of both. This is not Sandals or all inclusive. It is not for kids. I like different & in this case it was much better.
FYI the Castries airport(north) is a 45 min - 1 hour drive while the southern airport (Hewanorra?) is about 15 minutes. (There were many people on our flight that had a 2-2 1/2 hour taxi drive to go up north, so beware.)
This really is a very good deal & I imagine that there are gems like this on other islands. Do your research & enjoy. Hope this helps.

Oh, try that Piton Beer. Good stuff.

The photos for Fond Bay definitly do not do it justice. It is absolutely gorgeous with breathtaking views. It is very small, but well maintained with wonderful service. Run by a married couple who brought us fresh fruit from their trees each morning and recommended the best places to visit on the island, places that other tour places would not know about. The one and only complaint we had was that it is sort of far out from all of the activity and touristy things of the island. If you are looking for nightlife, water sports, etc, this is not the place for you, but if you want a peaceful, relaxing experience with outstanding service, secluded beaches and phenomenal scenery, this is the place for you. The rooms are nicer than any hotel you will find. Bring food from home or plan on grocery shopping while you are there because there is no restaurant on site. Definitly recommend the ocean view, it's worth the few extra bucks. You NEED a rental car if you are staying here. Take a cab to Fond Bay and they will take care of renting a jeep for you for the lowest cost on the island (even if you are under 25yo). The cost of staying here might suprise you because it is relatively low compared to the rest of the island, but don't let this make you believe that it is not as nice as the others, it is a WONDERFUL place to stay. This was a wonderful experience for my girlfriend and I and we both would highly recommend it!

My girlfriend and I stayed at Fond Bay Suites (oceanview) over Memorial Day weekend. We were the only couple there aside from our gracious hosts Ross and Alesia. I can't say enough about Ross and the knowledge of the island. The accomodations were great and just what we were looking for--getting away from it all. We had access to our own pool and Ross picked fresh papayas, limes, basil and other herbs for us. The 2 beaches are a sand beach and a stone beach, both about a 10 minute hike away. Bugs were almost non-existent. We spent a lot of time at the Vieux Fort beach 15 mins away and also at The Reef restaurant (right on the beach). Try their pina coladas, they were superb. Ross's dinner recommendations of the Fox Grove Inn were terrific, as was his suggestion about a taxi driver. We preferred to have a taxi over renting a car. We took a day trip up the West coast through Soufriere and stopped in the little fishing villages, the Botanical Gardens, the waterfalls, the volcano, saw the Pitons, visited Ladera Resort...all in about 5 hours. The man who got us there was Winson Edwards. This gentlemen grew up in St Lucia and knows almost every person in the southern part of the island. If you need a taxi driver for the day or even a short trip, he's your man. Just so you have it, his # is 758-520-5231. I can't say enough nice things about our experience with him as he was our outlet to learning about the island and getting around. Neither my girlfriend nor I would hesitate to go back to Fond Bay in the slightest. The villa was magnificent although we didn't stay there so if you have the opportunity, I'd highly recommend it. If you have direct inquiries, please feel free to email me at urmcd@aol.com. I'd welcome the opportunity to advise you to stay here.

Location, location, location is everything, and if you want to be away from the hustle of the North, Fond Bay is the spot for quiet, tranquility and privacy. And, Fond Bay only has 5 suites below and 1 Villa above. We liked this detail a lot...on any given day, you may or may not run into other guests..

However, definitely read the fine print in the guest agreement. We found ourselves asking for fresh bath towels daily, only to learn that the housekeeper only changes the bed linen weekly and towels are changed every two days. The fine print gives you the option of having FULL housekeeping for an additional $10 per day. I have no problem paying this. with the heat and humidity, sun and sand, I personally prefer fresh towels and bed linen changed daily. And, the only other problem was that we ran out of bathroom tissue and asked both the property manager and houskeeper to restock and they both forgot and we had to remind them. Oh, and the suites each could also use a FULL size iron and ironing board. Otherwise u have to either request it or travel with your own....

For the indipendent traveller that likes something a little quieter. You will need to book a jeep from Ross, but then to enjoy the island you will need transport anyway! We found Fond Bay a great base as being on the East coast it enjoyed the cooling breeze. This gave you a good nights sleep and kept the insects at bay. Fond Bay is on its own overlooking a valley of coconut palms that lead down to the beach. The grounds are carefully planted with many exotic plants, a real private botanical garden. The accommodation was only three years old, so fresh and clean. Being in the South of the island the local villages were classic Caribbean with wooden houses and smiling faced children. Mainly poor but more than willing to share their island with you. We loved:
Descartier Rainforest trail ( only ones on it ), Errard waterfall ( 2.5 hours there on our own ), Laborie Beach ( go past the village and as you decend the hill turn left and park. Reef protected so safe and we were the only ones there apart from the occasional villager.), Ti Kaye village ( good lunch and fantastic snorkling. Consider this for a two centre holiday.), Ballenboche estate. ( telephone at lunch or dinner time the day before to book a cheap lunch during your visit. Fantastic pictures of flowers and ruins, local walks around the Fond Bay area. Good meals at : Fox Grove Inn, Debbies, The Reef ( on the beach at Vieux Fort ) but avoid Juliettes Lodge.
We spent two weeks at Fond Bay with a jeep for 9 days. We felt safe and that we really had seen island life. Being a small place you get to know the other people staying there and both Ross and Alicia were very good hosts who will recommend places and give directions.
Our prioritys when on holiday are; to understand and appreciate the area, its people and culture. Photography is high on our list but we also want clean, comfortable surroundings and Fond Bay provided all of these.
We would recommend it to the more discerning traveller who does not want nightlife, bars and tourists.
Be warned though. 2007 Cricket World cup comes to St Lucia. The coastal peninsulars around the south coast have "Plots for sale" on them, so get there soon!
