My husband and I needed a peaceful place to stay while I was in California for my brother's funeral. This place was perfect! It's so quiet and beautiful. The Villa is surrounded by hundreds of Olive trees that make it feel like you're in Italy. It's very tuscan. The Villa is very clean and smells fresh. The Honeymoon Suite is spacious and clean with a huge California King bed. The shower is also huge with dual shower faucets and soft water. I loved how the bathroom had all the things that I forgot to bring like: blow dryer, q-tips, cotton pads to remove makeup.... They also had comfy robes and large towels. I love the view from our room. No city sounds or lights. Just peace and nature. If you drive out less than a mile, you can go to the Coloma historical park where gold was first found in California and visit the monument there. If you drive maybe 25 minutes you can go to Apple Hill where they have the most delicious apple donuts, pies, and caramel apples. I'm so glad we stayed there. It was peaceful and a perfect place to relax, be comfortable indoors, and also enjoy the outdoors and nature.

Villa Fiorentina is a great place to visit. Great for weddings, honeymoon escape, family reunions or any special events. The venue is beautiful surrounded by beautiful olive trees. The hosts of the Villa, Patsy and Dave are great. They go above and beyond just to make sure their guests feel comfortable and pampered and taken care of. Rooms are beautiful, spacious, unique especially the honeymoon suite. Breakfast is the best. Make sure you try the Signature French Toast Casserole for breakfast its so delicious.

I got to help plan a friend’s wedding here. It was just an amazing experience from start to finish and a lot of that had to do with it being held at Villa Florentina. Every step of the way the staff was totally accommodating and helpful. Just their great customer service is worth booking here! We had our initial venue tour with the owner himself and he took the time to answer all of our questions...and we had lots. We were impressed with how well laid out the property was for a wedding and yet how intimate it felt.
The day of the wedding was gorgeous! Villa Florentina was the perfect setting - impeccably clean, maintained grounds, with just incredible scenery. The bridal party got ready in the bridal suite in the villa, which was really nice...and had two bathrooms! It was a super relaxed atmosphere, for being such a luxurious place, and we got some great getting ready shots.
We had about 160 guests at the wedding so it was really nice to be able to park on-site and not have to shuttle all those people back and forth from somewhere else. Also, I know it might sound a little silly, but they had really nice bathrooms for all the guests too. No porta-potties at this wedding...I hate that!
We decided to have the ceremony on the lawn and that went off without a hitch. After the ceremony, our guests played bocce on the bocce court and had cocktails and appetizers. The reception was in the huge, round plaza in front of the villa. It has a fountain in the middle which was really pretty when the sun went down and it was all lit up. The sunset as we were having dinner and doing speeches was incredible, and the photos turned out more better than we could have hoped for.
The DJ was set up next to their permanent dance floor and we seriously danced until our feet almost fell off:) That was a big factor in my friend's decision...being able to have a band or DJ, and it really made the night. Whenever we needed a break, we sat around the fire and could still watch the dancing. When the event ended, some of us went down to one of the local bars and basically took it over...so much fun. I was lucky enough to get to stay in one of the guest rooms at Villa Florentina and I got such a good night’s sleep...which was probably because the bed was super comfy, but maybe also partly to do with the wine:) The next morning, the owner made a really amazing breakfast...all local and organic...mmmm! And this may seem trivial, but they had a huge selection of high quality teas...a nice touch for us tea drinkers.
Wow, this review got really long, but I’ve been in and to a lot of my friends’ weddings and this was one of the best experiences I’ve had. We had so much fun and the venue was elegant and refined without being stuffy. If you are even considering having your wedding here, go for it! This place is amazing and you won't be disappointed!

Invited to a wedding of former coworkers who met on the job. They were smitten after first date.Fast forward 2 years. We arrived at venue early and were greeted by 2 friendly employees on a golf cart that directed us where to park in a setting lined with olive trees and gave us a ride up cobblestone road to villa. The place was set up only for their special day..Nobody but them was the focus.Every employee was truly caring. Amazing preacher.Vintage charm. Adam and Sarah you are truly special. The setting was amazing.

I was traveling to Coloma for a Fast Water Rescue course and was looking for a place to stay. I was so fortunate to have found Villa Florentina. I contacted Patsy and she was so helpful in choosing the room and helping me to plan my stay.
I arrived on a Thursday afternoon and she was hosting an on-site meeting at the Villa. She welcomed me and I settled into my wonderful room with an amazing view of the mountains and all of the olive trees. I sent pictures to my husband and told him I wished he was there too.
The two breakfasts were wonderful and Patsy helped me to fill up my free time with hiking, jogging routes, and winery tours. She recommended an amazing restaurant in Placerville for lunch.
The Villa is wonderfully furnished and very private. It is such a romantic spot. I hope that I will be able to return and bring my husband along.
Thanks for the wonderful stay.

We stayed at Villa Florentina because friends were getting married down the road. We didn't know what to expect because we didn't know anyone who had been there. I'm so glad we found Villa Florentina. Patsy was the perfect hostess; she made us so welcome that we felt as if we'd known her for years. She gave us recommendations for places to go and things to do, and cooked the most wonderful breakfasts each day. On the way there we got a little lost because we were navigating with the aid of my cell phone and there was no signal in the valley, so I drove to the top of the hill and called her. Not only did she give me directions but she offered to drive to me if necessary so that I could follow her back!! The room was beautifully appointed; they really had thought of everything to make our stay perfect. the villa is very peaceful, the grounds are magical, and there is lots to see and do in the area. I am looking forward to going back.

My husband and I got married at Villa Florentina and it was the happiest day ever! We chose Villa Florentina because many of my family members and friends live in California and I have fallen in love with the foothills. My husband worried that people would feel inconvenienced by drive time from the Bay Area but the feedback we got even from our east coast friends was that it was an amazing gem of an area of California and they were so happy we provided them an opportunity to discover it. Folks made the most of the perfect weather in late September for river rafting, hiking, wine tasting and even a casino evening. Some stayed in Coloma and some in Placerville. Apparently a few of our friends found a great watering hole to continue the party after the reception ended. Guests said over and over how fun, beautiful and unique the whole weekend was.
Ok but this is about the venue, not just the area in which it is located...
I wanted our wedding to reflect our love of the outdoors but without being so rustic that some guests would be underwhelmed or uncomfortable. We wanted elegance without stuffiness. We wanted a venue and vendors who could work together so as to appear smooth and seamless. We wanted our wedding to be in a special and unique place - no cookie cutter wedding factory venues where we would feel rushed. We (ok, I) really was excited to have beautiful photos. Villa Florentina provided all of this and more.
The venue was impeccable and gorgeous. The owners clearly take pride in keeping it that way both inside and out. We loved that there were so many distinct areas - the lawn for the ceremony, the round patio for the reception, and the paths, house patio, and bocce courts for the cocktails we served before and after the ceremony. Loren was great - super responsive and made us feel very much welcome. He seemed to have thought of everything and was a great resource as we were planning.
We could not have known how soft the evening breeze would feel drifting up the canyon or how the colors of the sunset had guests talking. Those things have to be experienced to believe them. The professional photos taken outside and those incorporating the Tuscan decorative details of the house were AMAZING. Had we more time, we could have gone into Coloma for fun historic photos but we truly didn't need to because we had so much beauty on site. We opted to have a few of us stay at the house the night of the wedding. It was a luxury to sleep there and wake to such calm, quiet beauty.
Every event has its little glitches (for us the caterer didn't bring enough limes so one of the Villa's parking attendants went to the store and got more - so cool) and I should have planned for more lighting/candles on the tables (thank goodness for the floating globe lights the Villa strung up around the patio) but nobody cared because everyone was drinking in the beauty of the sunset and happiness of the day.
All in all, we could not have been happier with Villa Florentina. It was a magical day for us and so much of it was because we truly felt relaxed and at home there, with the utmost confidence that the site had everything we and our vendors needed. Thank you Villa Florentina!!!!

I cannot explain how horrible this place was for the Ju e wedding I attended. First of all, the wedding was supposed to start at 2pm, didn't start until almost 3pm. It was 93 degrees and this place had ZERO shade... I am not exaggerating, there was no cover anywhere. They wouldn't let you inside to escape, even the bathrooms were swelling. We all had to huddle under the scarce table umbrellas as staff was trying to set up for the dinner. It was so hot outside, we couldn't get over how unprepared this place was. There were not enough umbrellas for dinner-- and believe me, you had to be shaded to escape the scorching heat. They ran out of ice and started rationing it out...seriously?? It was just horrible from beiginnig to end, which was when an older gentleman psed out and an ambulance had to be called in... Too much sun. Shocker. Here's a tip: if you hold an outdoor wedding, make sure the guests are comfortable and taken care of as well as the wedding party. Numerous people were complaining and calling this place a joke-- it was THAT miserable. I am sure this is a wonderful place for anything BUT a summer event, but this place is woefully not prepared to handle hot temperatures. We travelled a long way to attend this wedding and it was just miserable, not memorable, as it should have been.

Response from myexitstrategy, Owner at Villa Florentina
Responded Aug 26, 2013
Blaming Villa Florentina for this bad experience is like blaming the theater itself because you didn't like the movie. It is unfortunate that this review appears on our Villa Florentina Tripadvisor profile. It should actually be posted on the sites for the client, caterers, and coordinator. Please read the simple explanation below: WE DO PROVIDE beautiful and elegant wedding venue in the Sierra foothills, along a sparkling river, with views of our olive grove and the valley beyond. It is a stunning setting for our clients to exercise their creativity in assembling a team of vendors to deliver their dream wedding. WE DO NOT PROVIDE food, drinks, or rental equipment. Those items are the responsibility of the client, coordinator, and caterer. We are not an "all-in-one" venue, but instead allow our clients the flexibility and creativity to select their own caterers, photographers, florists, etc. SHADE: The client and coordinator arranged for all rental equipment, including tables, chairs, market umbrellas, etc. While we can not force our clients to obtain any particular rental items, we recommend, stated clearly in our contract, the need for shade. In fact, our clients sign a contract in which they agree to provide a minimum of one large market umbrella for each 10 guests. Clearly, in this case, the client and coordinator failed to follow our recommendation and plan for guest comfort. Unfortunately for us, the reviewer's dissatisfaction is misguided and should have been directed toward the responsible party. FOOD/DRINK/ICE: The caterer provides all of these items. For the majority of our events, as evidenced by our other online reviews, the professional caterers provide ample and excellent food and drink. In this case, unknown to us, there appears to have been a shortage of ice provided by the caterer. Unfortunately for us, the reviewer's dissatisfaction is misguided and should have been directed toward the responsible party. WEDDING SCHEDULE: The client and coordinator arrange the schedule. In this case, the invitation stated 2pm ceremony, when the client's actual intent was to begin the ceremony at 2:30pm to allow for late arrivals. When the ceremony actually began at 2:45pm, guests had been waiting for quite some time, especially those who had arrived long before the stated start time. This might not have been remarkable if shade and refreshments had been adequately planned for by the client, coordinator, and caterer. Furthermore, most ceremonies begin at 4pm to 5pm, but this client chose to begin at 2pm, which, due to their failure to provide for adequate shade and refreshment, compounded the discomfort. Unfortunately for us, the reviewer's dissatisfaction is misguided and should have been directed to the responsible parties. WEATHER: We cannot control the weather any more than any other outdoor wedding venue. When the client, coordinator, and caterer adequately plan for guest comfort with items such as umbrellas for shade, ice for drinks, etc, the weather plays a small role in the event. Unfortunately for us, the reviewer's dissatisfaction is misguided and should have been directed to the responsible parties. VENDOR ERRORS: We pride ourselves on allowing our clients and their wedding coordinators a great deal of flexibility in planning their own event, including choosing their own vendors (caterers, coordinators, florists, etc). This usually leads to memorable and unique events, but occasionally brings an unprepared or unprofessional vendor to our venue. In this case, the caterer arrived late and failed to set up what few umbrellas they did have in time for the arriving guests. Furthermore, they did not set up the bar/refreshment station in time for the arriving guest. Finally, they apparently ran out of ice and drinks as well. Unfortunately for us, the reviewer's dissatisfaction is misguided and should have been directed to the responsible parties. SUMMARY: We take full responsibility for all facets of our venue within our control. That is why the parking is ample, the grounds impeccable, the scenery breathtaking, and the staff helpful, professional, and kind. However, we cannot assume responsibility for failures beyond our control, though we provide valuable insight to all of our clients to help ensure that their event is amazing. When clients disregard our advice, or private vendors fail to provide professional service, or mother nature provides a beautiful clear summer day, fingers are better pointed elsewhere than at our beautiful venue and it's hardworking staff. Do you blame the swimming pool for your nudity if you forget your bathing suit? Do you blame the ski resort if your gloves are not warm enough? Do you blame the condominium if your friend runs out of wine at her condo during dinner? Clearly, the reviewer misunderstood the very nature of the situation, and should be forgiven for their misplaced outrage.

I attended a wedding here. The grounds were beautiful, but we were all miserably hot. I don't understand why they don't have more covered areas for guests. They only provided one outside bathroom connected to the garage. With only 100 quests there was a waiting line. Only the wedding party was allowed entrance to the house. The official seating for wedding takes place with no coverage directly facing the sun to which everyone was squinting and trying to shield their eyes. I would not recommend as everyone was thirsty and hot.

The Villa is a unique experience from the start! We drove up to an olive grove surrounding a Mediterranean style house. Very unique for gold country! The setting is very peaceful, romantic, and quaint. Patsy was an amazing host with many suggestions. She provided breakfast, and was very helpful with recommending activities. My room had a beautiful view of the mountains, and I got a peaceful night's sleep since it's so quiet outside. We spent the next day rafting in the American River, and hiking. We were close enough to town and had a variety of restaurants to choose from. My stay was very peaceful and I would say this is a one in a million place. Sunset is magical, and best viewed from the balcony. They have twinkle lights, and the view is something else. My husband and I have visited 2 years in a row and plan on going back again.
