Hotel's Favourite
Rising up over the Coronado skyline there are two iconic landmarks; the Coronado bridge, which is a marvel of engineering, and Hotel del Coronado. Cooling off on a hot, sunny day, we enjoyed very reasonably priced ($11) beers on the expansive veranda. Great vantage point for people-watching and occasional fly-overs from the naval bases.

Hotel del is famous. Just finished a book from roaring 20’s and they made a reference to the hotel. It is currently and has been extensively remodeled into a multi acre resort. They have added restaurants. Enhanced the cabana capacity surrounding the main pool. Added outdoor fire pits and larger sitting areas on almost every ground floor room and have upgraded their exclusive features such as s’mores and movie on the beach. It is also a very short walk into town for a variety of excellent places to eat and shop

I would have preferred to give 3 and a half instead of three. It's a little better then average but certainly not very good. We did have problems with check-in, they changed our rooms from a ocean front with a balcony in the newer section to rooms without a balcony and only partial ocean view. We were able to get it worked out pretty quickly and they did upgrade one room for us. The other room wasn't available until about an hour after check-in time. We were still only able to get the partial ocean views but the rooms were nice and having a balcony and sitting outside is always nice. The staff we dealt with were all friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable and well maintained. The place is a little pricy for what you get, but ocean front is limited. We found the grounds well maintained but the beach chair stand doesn't open till 10? I'm up early and this doesn't make any sense, people were in nine before nine and by 10 the line was really long. They should open at 7 or 8.

Check in was not the experience we are used to. The front desk and guest services staff were rude when we asked questions. The hotel has you now park in the very back -no valet (due to covid) You then enter up a set of stairs and follow the signs to locate guest services all the way back to the front. The lines were long. We were given our room key and directed to an elevator. Once we stepped out- the room signage did not indicate our room number anywhere. We had to go back and ask again. Finally one of the housekeepers knew where our room was and we walked and walked and walked to the end of a very slanted hallway. It really felt unstable. We stayed in an ocean view room. The carpeting was buckled and the floor was so uneven we held on to the walls all the way down the hallway. Inside the room the paint was chipping. The sliding door was not able to be closed. The water pressure was horrible. There was chipped paint on the toilet seat. I felt like we were staying in a slum lord apartment. I called guest services to inquire about room service (some hotels are providing room service) a very snotty response. I called back and asked if there was anywhere to grab a quick bite-I was given names and a general location. The service in the restaurants was wonderful. We will not stay here again. This is a property that really needs a big overhaul.

Dear L1SC, Thank you for the thorough review. We always strive to create comfortable and memorable getaways for our guests, and I apologize that wasn’t your experience. We hold ourselves to provide world-class service to every guest, and I’m disappointed to hear that was not received. I will be addressing matters with my team to ensure our hospitality remains excellent moving forward. Our hotel has welcomed guests since 1888, and naturally, that comes with wear and tear. I apologize for the condition of your guest room and promise beautiful changes are in the works. I hope to welcome you back for an unforgettable stay in the future. Sincerely, Harold Rapoza Jr. General Manager
