Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
As a single woman, I like to make sure the hotel/motel I stay in is safe. I never felt unsafe at the La Avenida Inn. Any employee/owner I encountered was also very friendly. And the location can't be beat. It's a two block walk to the beach and there are many places to eat/shop as well.
However, the room itself could use some attention. The photos on the website make it look very updated and fresh. They don't pan the camera around to the opposite bare, white wall where all you see is the wall mounted TV and a lot of paint patching. The bed is just a bed frame with no headboard and no bedspread. It's outfitted with a fitted sheet, flat sheet, blanket, and another flat sheet on top. No bedspread, no decorative throw. Just the basics. And the mattress is so lumpy I didn't sleep well at all. The decor is very outdated. There is no clock in the room so have your phone handy. There is a USB charger though, so that was nice. No full-length mirror, but i'm finding this is true more often even in more expensive hotels.
The room is loud. Loud A/C, loud cars in the alley behind the room, loud floors. The AC was so loud that I had to keep the tv remote in hand to turn the volume up and down constantly.
There are windows in both the front and back of the room so it's bright. Even at 2:00am it's bright because there's a floodlight shining in the window from the alley side.
The water in the shower took about 10 minutes to come up to temp and it is hard to adjust once you get it hot.
I thought the room was clean, so never felt grossed out. However, after taking a shower and walking in my bare feet when I went to put on socks I was horrified at how dirty my feet were.
I feel somewhat bad having to leave a less-than-stellar review because they were so friendly, but people need to know what they're getting for their money.

Thank you to LA Avenida. Great location, clean rooms, easy access to beach and shops. Moses was extremely helpful and accomidating, he allowed us to park on the other and use towels, while waiting for the room! We will definitely come back!!

My kids and I have stayed at the La Avenida Inn on numerous occasions. What I like best is their location. When I get to town I can park my car for the duration of my stay. I am disabled and walking to the shops, beach and restaurants poses no difficulty at all. The rooms are updated, spacious and clean. Their ice machine always works as well. The staff is awesome, especially Moses at the front desk. When we visit it almost feels like visiting friends. It’s a pleasure to see all the same faces on each visit....including housekeeping. The pool is always clean and refreshing too. Oh, and we’ve never had any issues at all with the WiFi service! When price shopping for accommodations here on Coronado, don’t let La Avenida’s lower than average rate fool you into thinking this is a sub-par property. I can assure you it is not. We have stayed at several different hotels here and this is one of our favorites. I’ve also had better success at getting a good rate when I call the front desk directly. Skip booking through a third party and give Moses a call. This always works for me.

This hotel has so much potential due to location and parking but the sheets and shower curtain were stained and nasty. I didn’t expect fancy but I did expect clean. They blamed it on the linen service they use but their management was not willing to discount or anything for the issues. The young lady at the front desk was very kind but the managers said they had no authority to do anything. If you decide to stay here you might want to take your own sheets and cleaning supplies!

Don't book this hotel. Here is my experience. And I'm still here one more night.
This was the second worst hotel experience I've had and my wife's worst. Our door lock broke and we could not get back into our room. The front desk woman did not have the correct tool to get back in. We had to wait over an hour and a half for the manager to drive to the hotel to fix it. My wife is currently 7 months pregnant and we have a 19-month old with us. The next morning it broke again. Now, the only way we can come and go as we please is if the front desk woman is here to let us in with a master key. Horrendous.
Next, our toilet broke repeatedly. I had to personally rig it each time so it would stop running and actually flush.
Also, holes in the sheets from obvious burn marks. Sheets were stained. There is no fitted sheet on the bed. Plan to wake up on the mattress itself. Bed makes terrible squeaky noises every time there's any movement. The crib we had to rent looks like it's from goodwill and is equally squeaky.
The air conditioner/heater kind of works.
The pool is colder than the ocean.
There is no security latch on the door. I had to move the chair in front of the door and sit there so my toddler couldn't open the door.
The lights flicker while on.
Staff have shown no sympathy whatsoever nor made any attempt to right their many wrongs.
But, it's in a good location....

They literally charged us $25 to check in an hour early. We had to ask for soap, towels and shampoo. The bathtub was disgusting, and cracked. The bathroom sink had mold around it. Totally bad place

Rooms are gross, look nothing like the website. We only booked here because it was the only place available in our budget. Daytime female receptionist was super nice and helpful. She helped me cancel the second of my split reservations even though she didn't have to. The nighttime guys are sullen and inattentive. The walls are paper thin and the whole place rumbles at night because of the ancient air-cons. You can hear every conversation from the neighboring rooms. We bit the bullet and spent an extra $100 a night to move around the corner and actually sleep at night. WORTH IT. They need to completely remodel or bulldoze the place and start over.

My husband, sister and I checked in with no problem although we paid $25 extra to have our room available earlier. The website advertises that the rooms are “updated”. If that’s the case then I cannot imagine what terrible condition the rooms were in before. Although the floors look new that’s where the updating ended. Everything else is old and overused. Even the sheets have stains and are theeadbare along with the blankets neons the cheap foam things that have holes. Add to it there’s a layer of dust on everything. The pool has a layer of leave on the bottom so I’m not sure how clean I should think the water is.
The location is great and the rates are low. It’s all about the location at LaAvenida.

My mom and I have booked this hotel for a girls weekend for seven years in a row. This year we booked the hotel for October 2022 and called to cancel in early September due to conflicts in our schedule. We were told by the new manager, Moses, that one night could be refunded but the second could not unless someone ended up booking that room on the date we had scheduled. On the date we had the room scheduled that wasn’t going to be refunded unless another person needed the room, we called the front desk and were told that the reservation was still under our name for that night. Discouraged we reiterated that we had canceled that room in September. I had someone else call separately that day to ask if there were any double bedrooms available and were told they were all booked for the night. When I brought this up to Moses for a refund he was quite confrontational, accusatory, rude, and mentioned that although he was on a vacation when this all happened that I should’ve asked for his cell number so that I could text him. WHAT?! He also said that his staff doesn’t necessarily know all of the procedures and guidelines or whether or not the hotel is fully booked. COME AGAIN? Please choose another hotel. There are several others in the area I e stayed at with similar prices or less and with better customer service.

La Avenida is a great place. The room was updated and clean, with hot water, comfortable beds, and the service was amazing!! Moses and Giselle, as well as the rest of the staff members, went above and beyond to accommodate our family traveling to Coronado for the first time. The hotel itself isn’t 5 stars, as it’s an older building, but it’s priced accordingly for what you get. And, did I mention the location!?!? It’s centrally located to the beach, food, dining, shopping, and had a magnificent view of the beach and the Del. When we return to Coronado, we will be checking La Avenida Inn first for availability!

Hi, we were there in September for 5 days, and have stayed there every year for the last 4 years or so, as we have family in Coronado. I don't know if they have done remodeling, at least not in the rooms we've stayed in. The beds have always been very comfortable and the hotel is a great value. I believe they are planning on doing renovations like in the office, opening a wall to extend the breakfast bar. Also hopefully putting in ceiling fans would be nice. Overall, no complaints, it's got great pricing, free guest parking, great friendly staff and very convenient to downtown Coronado. One dream idea, is adding solar panels on the roof to make the pool heated. Next time we're going to Coronado... We'll be staying at the La Avenida inn!
There are more places to choose from in the Coronado area.
