The Lautner is an amazing gem of a place. It's a pristine modern masterpiece that is totally cozy and has everything you need for a short getaway or an extended stay. My wife and I stayed there this past week during a hiking trip in Palm Springs/Joshua Tree. Our contact Tracy was beyond accommodating and very responsive to anything we...

Visited during Palm Springs Modernism Week and met owner Tracy. Incredible boutique hotel and Tracy's passion and love for architect John Lautner shows in every room. The mid century modern design is amazing What a great place to get away, relax or get to know someone special.Close to Palm Springs.

This is my fourth trip to Hotel Lautner and my second at Christmas. My husband John and I love this place. How often do you get to stay in an architectural masterpiece? Tracy, the manager, although not on site, is always available by phone. I love the fact that you never have to eat out because of the kitchens, but...

Previous reviews have really covered the shortcomings and beautiful design of this complex. Here are my two cents. Unit: My husband and I used this as a private weekend getaway. Thanks to previous reviews, we prepared ourselves by packing all of our own food and entertainment. We stayed the weekend in the Bachelor's Pad. Gorgeous. The kitchen was surprisingly functional...

So I read the most recent review before I booked and I can't speak for other people but I do find it "SUSPECT" that one person was entirely negative about this place. For me, my experience was completely heavenly. It's 2016 and to expedite things like Checking In, this is EXACTLY how it went for me and the Mrs. 1....

I travel frequently and stay at top-tier hotels and AirBNB properties. I originally thought Hotel Lautner would be something in between these two, but in reality it was anything but. Yes—the echo of mid-century design is beautifully nostalgic, but saying the experience of staying at the hotel sucked is certainly an understatement. Top begin with, the check-in procedure was unnecessarily...

We stayed here over the holidays, choosing this location primarily due to a love of Lautner's work but also because we like a nice hide out. If you want to stay in the heart of Palm Springs and in walking distance to all the activity then this isn't your place. But if you enjoy a beautiful space and quiet then...

Sadly I only stayed at the Lautner for 1 night and quite briefly. But it is a spectacular place and really very beautiful. Despite being 65 odd years odd, it hasn't aged at all and appears surprisingly modern. Staying here is staying in an architectural piece of history. I should add that the host is efficient and attentive and the...

This is a fine place..nicely refurbished. You will have a good time here and you will wake up happy. In addition to all that Desert Hot Springs can offer it is near Palm Springs. You have several hot springs, both public and private in town.

John Lautner is by far my favorite architect. My wife and I are both big MCM buffs and we enjoy Neutra, Wexler, Cody, and others. But Lautner is tops. His melding of earth, sky, and dwelling is unparalleled. When I discovered a few years ago that Lautner's long forgotten Desert Hot Springs Motel was being restored, I knew that I...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Lautner is the chance of a lifetime to actually get to live the "Lautner Lifestyle" in your very own private John Lautner flat! John Lautner was one of America's most legendary architects and this property is an example of one of his earliest works and his only hotel. The private 4-unit compound boasts amazing cactus and succulent gardens throughout, a fire pit lounge complete with infrared BBQ and vintage modern outdoor dining area with umbrella, retro butterfly chairs scattered throughout the grounds for gazing at the incredible architecture and a heavenly outdoor saline plunge pool with lounge area to soak up the sun complete with outdoor shower. The four units are like renting your own mid-century modern studio apartment and are the perfect escape for a night or two or three. Each unit sleeps two adults on a queen size bed, priceless vintage modern decor, stainless steel kitchenettes complete with bar sinks, induction cook tops, microwaves, Kuerig coffee systems and all of cooking and dining ware one could need, well appointed bathrooms with rain showers, upscale plumbing fixtures and towel warmers, Frette linens, towels and robes, L'Occitane amenities, TV/DVD players, MP3 Radios/Disc Players, private terraces with loungers (so private you can sunbathe naked) and three sided glass walls surrounded by beautiful cactus gardens with rock lights will envelope you.The hotel is a hybrid between upscale vacation rental property and micro-boutique hotel. A staff member is there to greet you at the locked compound with keys, a brief tour to familiarize guests with the accommodations and then you are on your own to enjoy your getaway. There is a 24/7 concierge if you should need anything during your stay just a phone call away. The hotel is only a 15 minute drive from the heart of Palm Springs or just 30 minutes away from spectacular Joshua Tree National Park. Guests can also visit neighboring mineral springs resorts and the hotel is more than happy to set up reservations for you. Guests can also schedule in room massages thru the hotel staff. Quite honestly, most guests just visit the neighborhood Vons to stock up and enjoy being on the grounds as long as they can and seldom leave the architectural sanctuary that is "Hotel Lautner". ... more   less
