After checking into room #11 we discovered the roomskeeper did not empty the trash and the sheets did not appear to be changed between guests as there were multiple hairs and debris between the bottom & flat sheet. I decided to give the facility the benefit of the doubt that its hard to get great help. So I complained and...

If you are looking for a taste of history while visiting a taste of history. This is it for you. The decor is such that you may be in the mid 1800s. The rustic charm is good, as well functionality of the bathrooms, and so forth. The complimentary breakfast is good. The waffles you make yourself are delicious! There is...

If you take it for what is (an old Historic Hotel) it won't disappoint. We had the Mark Twain Suite overlooking Main St. With a balcony that was nice to sit out on during the day or evening and have some drinks. The only downside to having a room facing Main St. is you will hear all the loud traffic...

We took a summer vacation that included learning about the history of the California Gold Rush and what a treat it was to take a step back in time and stay at The Holbrooke Hotel. California's oldest hotel in continuous operation so I'm told, and as rumor has it haunted too! We had a blast. So many cool things like...

This hotel has a unique history. This is my third stay and have not had any ghost encounters. Rooms are on the smaller size, but this time we stayed in a larger king room. Bathroom tub/shower combinations are hard to get in and out of and there is no place to put your bath products. Other than that the rooms...

Caution. Called to book a room here and was told "there is no pet fee but there is a fully refundable pet deposit". I questioned this practice and it turns out the woman had been only working there for two weeks but assured me that if the pet policy was different, someone would call me the next day. No one...

I stayed here for a wedding, and this place was excellent. The building has tremendous history and staff are excellent and helpful. The bathrooms have old time sinks, toilets and fixtures. The bedroom I stayed in was the Harrison Room, named for president Benjamin Harrison. Other presidents were Grant, Garfield and Cleveland. Mark Twain also stayed there. There is a...

I did not stay at this hotel, but visited one afternoon for a wedding. The hotel had this very intentional old mining vibe. The staff were kind. Try the house Merlot. Big parking lot but it also fills up quickly on the weekend. Only other drawback was I couldn't connect to the internet in the main room where the wedding...

Located in downtown Grass Valley, the Holbrooke is conveniently located to shops and local restaurants. The evening manager, Teresa, was wonderfully accommodating--bringing up extra blankets and pillows and a space heater for my parents. The rooms are named for historical figures, some or all of whom stayed there. It is very quaint and very old. There is an old fashioned...

A very spontaneous trip to Grass Valley over the Valentine/President's three day weekend found us looking for a place to stay. With the only option being the centrally located, downtown historical Holbrooke Hotel, we decided to give it a try, after discovering they were pet friendly. $50 pet fee deposit or free if your dog is a service dog. The...
