This was my first time to Muskoka Lakes for an overnight stay; I must comment like most others have.........this establishment is in NEED of some major TLC , inside & out!! My room & bathroom were clean; as were the common areas of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and our meals were generous in portion size and fresh; we very much appreciated the full-Complimentary Breakfast. At the Spa, enjoyed immensely Massage done by RMT, Daniel. My husband also enjoyed his pedicure treatment. Woman at Spa Front Desk not very friendly, however. Not much to do there in the Fall, and not much to see in the surrounding community.
Spent three nights at Windermere for the first time in 3 years. Even though there was a staff shortage, the staff at the facility were just great. No issues there. Food in the Rosseau Room was very good...not surprisingly it was expensive but met the standard. The building and facility were less than stellar. The building need some major reinvestment from the smelly septic system, the unpainted exterior, the ripped cushions on the bedroom deck, noisy fridge, poor TV station/streaming channel options ( yes a first world problem but in this day and age and on wet days it is important). Rugs need to be replaced also. Windermere rides on the name and the location...especially during Covid. It is grossly over priced for what you get. If ownership spent some money and kicked up the details it would rate a 4 star plus rating but until such time it will just slowly deteriorate as they maximize profit. It is a shame...it should be shining star in Muskoka…
We experienced friendly and accommodating service from wait staff and front desk clerks, a clean and comfortable room, and enjoyed good food for the complementary breakfast and dinners during our stay. Sitting areas where we could relax with a cup of tea and a good book would have brought our rating up to a 5-star ... something we were expecting in this big beautiful Inn.
Windermere review I am not one to typically write a bad review as I’ve never experienced such horrible service after such an awful experience. But I feel that people need to know how this resort and management is run and handles themselves. My husband and my two young sons (8 and 3 were provided a canoe from the Windermere House, as we were staying there for the weekend. Not only did the canoe sink, due to a hole/prior damage to it, and my husband and two sons were left stranded in the lake, but when we confronted the resort about the issue (after being reduced by nearby cottagers and boaters), my husband was treated as if the issue was his fault as “he signed a waiver to use the canoe” by the General Manager. Not only is this absolutely disturbing on behalf of the resort but the fact that there was later evidence that the canoe was damaged and sank due to their negligence, we have yet to have this matter dealt with professionally. The canoe appeared fine to a typical tourist who wouldn’t have thought that a resort would be handing out damaged equipment. And my children and my husband were equipped with their own life jackets. The boaters that reached my family all advised the canoe was in horrible condition and should have never had been lended out. My children and husband are traumatized. My trust in this resort and their management is absolutely null. Not only are they not taking responsibility for what had happened but they continue to disregard us by not returning our calls in response to following up with what happened. Randy the VP did call us on the Sunday (the day we left the resort) and apologized for how their GM (Greg or Craig) treated us, and then said he would follow up with us when we weren’t driving home in cottage traffic. That was a week ago and we have not yet heard back. If you want to take a vacation here and possibly be given unmaintained equipment, and who knows what else is being overlooked, and then deal with awful customer service in regards to your experience, then by all means, go to this resort. Otherwise I will save you the trauma and tell you to please go somewhere else! Everything could have been handled so much more professionally. It’s sad that in times like these customer service and compassion even was overlooked.…
