When we read about The Secret Garden Cottage we knew it would be very special. The reality blew us away; we didn't want to leave and hope to return someday. The owners are special people whose passion is their garden. This is not just any garden, it is a spectacular garden with different "rooms" highlighting different plant life accessed by walking under a trellis into each "room" along beautiful paths with water features along the way. Phil gave us a wonderful tour and shared the fascinating history of the place with us. We so appreciated his generosity with his time and the efforts of this couple who invite us into their space to share their passion and definite labor or love. Don't miss the bathhouse and the beautiful view of Tomales Bay from the claw footed tub. Oh, and the cottage is very well thought out with lots of light.

I needed a personal retreat desperately and was fortunate to discover this magical paradise within an hour of my home. Entering the verdant gardens and approaching the perfect little cottage was like a dream come true. All around me, colorful varieties of flowers, plants and trees welcomed me and beckoned me down paths and under bowers. But first, into the cottage, which was airy, bright and immaculate. Gorgeous light poured in from the skylights as I poked around and settled in. I found an appropriate CD, "Songs from a Secret Garden," and as its mellow tones wafted around, I stood there and realized I'd found my heaven! The place was spotless, unbelievably so, and furnished tastefully with comfortable couch, chairs and the coziest vacation bed you've ever slept in. The kitchen featured everything I'd need, with nice touches like Peet's coffee, juice, and cereal. The towels and linens were sumptuous. A real treat was soaking in the outdoor claw foot bathtub perched up in a little zen structure overlooking Tomales Bay. Utterly relaxing. But it was the gardens that really enthralled me. I've been out to the cottage twice now, in sunshine and rain, and the gardens were perfectly ravishing each time. Take your camera and explore down the paths, linger in little pockets of green, shoot some macros of the water-dropped daffodils, then into a little faerie forest, and look, there's a little place to sit, surrounded by beauty and quiet and a sighing bough or two. This place has it all. Not to mention the most hospitable innkeeps you'll ever meet. Phil guided me to an amazing Point Reyes walk where I immersed myself in wildflowers over my head. Never would have known about it except for him. I have since returned to the cottage with my wife and daughter and all of us enjoyed a sublime stay. l always carry a torch for my Secret Gal, and hope to embrace her again soon!

We stayed at this lovely cozy and wonderful garden cottage. The interior is amazing with high ceilings, exposed beams, great lighting, clean and simply decorated with charm. You can enjoy your cup of coffee on the large deck overlooking the walkways and gardens. Just a few steps up the trail I took a morning bath in the claw foot tub overlooking the bay, it was wonderful enjoying the birds and quietness. A walk in their enormously beautiful garden is for us always the highlight, since we are avid gardeners ourselves and know the hard work involved to keep it so stunningly amazing! The huge Azaleas, Rhododendren are all in bloom now and the roses are popping up as well. We love the serenity and beauty! Many choices for hiking trails in West Marin and lovely restaurant availabilities in the area. Thank you Patsy and Phil for making our weekend experience so delightful!

We enjoyed the morning view of the bay, the afternoon sun on the deck, the very large and unusual garden which was in full spring bloom. Many birds. Well-planned, quiet, clean, comfortable and attractive interior. We hope to return.

I have stayed here several times over the years, and every single time have had a wonderful experience. Stepping inside the garden gate at the entrance feels immediately peaceful and relaxing. The setting is completely private, surrounded by a beautiful garden. There is a view of Tomales Bay from the cottage, a soaking tub up a garden path, and a sunny deck on which to have morning coffee, or a glass of wine at the end of day after hiking, biking or kayaking in the area. The cottage is immaculately clean, uncluttered, and comfortable. The owners have thought of everything...organic breakfast items in the refrigerator, fluffy robes, restaurant suggestions, trail maps, etc. Staying here is my all time favorite getaway!

This is the one place that is even more beautiful than the pictures in the site synapsis. The cottage is a beautiful, lush, green setting, inlaid into a gorgeous part of the California Coast. The cottage was planned and built with care. The floorpan lends itself to relaxed, comfortable living with a useful kitchen, living area and the fireplace was just lovely. The jewel is the external bathhouse with its clawfoot tub. A nice hot bath overlooking the garden in the cool outside air was magical. To top it off the hosts are so welcoming, gracious, helpful and very knowledgable about the surrounding area. We stayed the week of Christmas at a time when we really needed to get away, the Secret Garden Cottage provided the magic to leave the real world behind. Thank you so much for that!

We loved everything about this special cottage, especially the many windows through which we were able to enjoy beautiful sunrises, a spectacular full moon, and a great view of Tomales Bay. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful with benches and swings scattered throughout. Everything we could have wanted or needed was provided. Phil spent time giving us helpful hiking tips so we could further enjoy this beautiful area. We hope we can return some day!

What a great start to our holiday. You are instantly relaxed the moment you arrive. You are surrounded by such a beautiful location with the seclusion of the cottage, the views over the bay, and a gorgeous gardens so lovingly maintained. The cottage itself is very warm and inviting and you feel instantly at home. The wood floors, the wood stove and outdoor tub and deck only add to the experience. Phil and Patsy are there to answer any questions and make you feel welcome but never intrude. The area around the cottage is amazing for hiking, kayaking or just a quiet drive. We love this area and hope to return again soon.

This is a lovely place to stay in one of our favorite places on earth. The cottage is roomy, bright, has all the amenities one might want for a retreat to the wilderness, and is spotless to boot. Peet's coffee, local fruit, an eclectic collection of movies and music, and deep thirsty bathrobes to wear out to the tub are all special touches. Did I mention the outdoor tub? Why do I not have one of these in my backyard? With a view of the bay and the lush gardens, so gorgeous you'll feel a little tipsy, the tub is an outrageous little spot to while away some time with a good book. And the location... the location... we rose at the crack of dawn on our 17th wedding anniversary to greet the day with at least 3 dozen elk at close range, a short drive away in the park. We had never heard elk before, and they sound remarkably like apes. Strange but true. Finally, the rate at the cottage is MOST reasonable given the precious surroundings and care with which the owners oversee the place. We'll be back, often.

I kept wishing I could move in permanently to this comfortable cottage with its lovely garden. I second what other reviewers say about its beauty and serenity. It's very clean, too. A few tips: follow the website's directions and not your GPS; mine got me quite lost. Also, if you need darkness to sleep, bring a sleep mask. The many skylights and windows give the cottage great light and air during the day, but wake you with the sun in the morning. Overall, a great place that I'll return to.
