Motel Inverness is such a special, peaceful place. For the past several years, we have stayed there while visiting family in Point Reyes. We’ve stayed in 4 of the seven rooms and never been disappointed. Everything - rooms, lodge, decks, the whole property - is well maintained. The grounds are beautiful and obviously get lots of care. The rooms are nicely decorated in a beach theme, very clean, and comfortable. Our kitchenette had everything we needed.

The view of the bay is beautiful. The Lodge and outside deck are special places to unwind and watch nature. And it’s a great place to birdwatch. Binoculars are available in the Lodge and there’s a list of recent bird sightings. The Lodge has a pool table, comfy chairs, a fireplace, board games, reading material, visitor guides, frig and microwave.

For our last visit, not all these amenities were available due to COVID-19 restrictions. All guests and staff are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing when outside their rooms. We felt safe while at the motel.

Janice and Michael, the innkeepers, are great! They are good resources for local information. They obviously care for the wonderful place where they live and work.

Our extended family “took over” the motel over MLK holiday weekend. What a treasure. The Great Room was a fabulous place to gather after each day’s adventure. The hosts were friendly and informative without being intrusive. Our family booked a number of rooms but I only saw room 1 and 3. Room 1 was a spacious and comfortable suite with a nice little patio facing the bay. I definitely want to come back with another couple and book that spot! We stayed in room 3. It was a set of twin beds that my hubby and I jokingly named the Lucy and Ricky room ( twin beds and all😊). Very cozy, with a cute nautical decor and hooks to hang your clothes, but no set of drawers if you are looking for that sort of thing. It didn’t bother us at all. The only thing I would do to upgrade it would be to change out the showerhead which didn’t have optimal dispersal of water( but nice and hot which made me happy). Hotel Inverness is our new favorite place. Can’t wait to return

You were a great group and we loved having you here. Thank you for taking time to write such a complimentary review. Your family definitely took over the main Lodge which we encourage, and made themselves right at home. Knowing you were comfortable, had everything you needed, and enjoyed your stay makes us feel we did our job. Guests celebrating special birthdays with their friends and family has become a regular occurrence and we welcome celebrations, reunions, and any occasion to get together at Motel Inverness. Thank You, Janice & Michael The Innkeepers

This is a great place for a getaway to Point Reyes. There's new management as of Jan. 2022, who are friendly and very helpful with any information around the area. Some things that make it a desirable stay:
beautiful location directly on Tomales Bay.
the large, comfortable lodge room and deck with perfect, quiet views.
small motel (7 rooms?)with personal attention and hardly any others around to distract from the serene location.
close enough to the town of Inverness Park where there's a market and restaurant.
because it's located right on Point Reyes peninsula, you avoid any traffic from day-trippers and can get out to see the sights while the place is still quiet. It is literally just a few minutes from Hearts Desire beach, a good place to get out on the bay if you are kayaking.

I believe someone once wrote Motel Inverness has a soulful heart...and we found that genuine goodness to be true everywhere. It is welcoming, old-school, intimate and serene. The motel backs up against stunning Tomales Bay with unobstructed views everywhere. It was so gorgeous.

There is a great communal room with comfy lounge chairs, a lovely fireplace, board games, a pool table, little frig/microwave, bird-watching lists on black-boards and a wonderful big deck for guests. We stayed in the California Quail room that was cozy, clean and had a comfortable bathroom and little deck facing Tomales Bay as well. The road noise out front is there on summer weekends but in the evening and morning hours, everything was relaxing. And anyway, aren't you out and about in fabulous Point Reyes?

I can't say enough how much we loved our stay....and the new managers are gracious, friendly and helpful. There is an understanding to be respectful of noise after 9pm and when we were there, everyone was accommodating. The setting is for a peaceful time. I can easily recommend.

Sometimes lodging is just a place to sleep while on a vacation. Other times, the lodging experience is so thoroughly satisfying that it can be a worthy vacation destination in itself. Motel Inverness is definitely the latter.

Last year we visited this charming little motel for our first time. Many reasons why we fell under its spell. Charming rooms with unique decor. Beautiful views. Zen-like vibes. A bird watchers paradise. Ideal location.

We returned again over Labor Day Weekend. Another wonderful stay. The Main Lodge was open this time. So peaceful and replenishing to sit in this room and watch sunrise over Tomales Bay.

We also had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the Innkeepers, Mara & Todd. Super friendly, down to earth, and helpful. We accidentally locked our car keys in our car at Chimney Rock, and they even offered to let us borrow their car.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Already looking forward to our next stay!

My husband and I were headed south along the PCH and I wanted to make Point Reyes/Inverness our starting point. I am so glad I found Motel Inverness! Mara and Todd were the sweetest, our room was so clean and cute, and the views were the absolute best. The location is perfect too for sightseeing (being right on Sir Francis Drake Blvd); the Cypress Tree Tunnel, Chimney Rock Trail and Point Reyes Lighthouse are all within a 30 minute drive. Honestly, I could've stayed all weekend - we will definitely be back.
Thank you for a great stay :)

Motel Inverness has been our go to place to stay in Marin when we're looking for somewhere that feels peaceful and relaxing and respectful of the beauty all around. When my husband and I got married in Point Reyes we booked out the whole motel and had our wedding party stay there. The lodge area made for great late night board game & pool table time, and the porch provided an amazing place to watch the day and night go by. Everything was so quiet and easy. We returned 3 years later (would have been earlier, but Covid...) and had our first night away from our now 1 year old. It was exactly as we remembered - with new hosts, but the same friendly, easy atmosphere. The room was clean, the coffee was delicious, and it felt like a getaway in which only we existed. We'll be going back as often as travel plans allow.

What a hidden gem. Exactly what we were hoping for. Relaxing, clean, entertaining hosts, convenient to all outdoor activities. Hosts gave us wonderful suggestions for kayaking, hiking and eating. Great room was as inviting as my own living room. We will definitely be back again!

My husband and I wanted to spend a few days exploring Point Reyes National Seashore. We stayed at Motel Inverness based on reviews and location. We are glad we did. Mara and Todd were so nice and helpful in choosing trails and restaurants. Our room was small but we were able to use the lovely lodge room to eat our breakfasts. (Good breakfast sandwiches available from Inverness Park Market just down the road). Dinner at Due West was very good. We loved the Seashore visit, and Motel Inverness.

The motel was small and quaint. The manager lives on site and was very welcoming and explained all the amenities. We had the twin bed room, which was small but very clean and accommodated our needs for the one night. We will return to the motel again when we can spend more time to explore more of the area, instead of the one night.

In the lovely lobby, there is a kitchenette with a toaster, microwave and refrigerator so you can definitely bring breakfast foods and prepare them in the am (we did). We also had lunch items that we enjoyed eating on the motel's expansive deck.

Answer from fridabird

We offer coffee, tea, and hot chocolate throughout the day. We do not have breakfast service, there are places within 1/2 a mile where you can pick up breakfast items and bring them back to enjoy in the main Lodge, There are several restaurants in Point Reyes,3 miles away that serve full breakfasts.
