Nestled in a prime spot, the San Diego Marriott La Jolla garners praise for its location convenient to San Diego's attractions and business hubs. Guests have commended the staff for their exceptional service, though some have noted occasional lapses. While the hotel's public spaces and comfortable bedding receive positive marks, the decor in the rooms is considered dated by several reviewers. The amenities, including a commendable breakfast and sociable bar, are generally appreciated, despite some remarks about the need for modernization. Cleanliness is largely applauded, yet value for money is a point of contention among guests, with some voicing dissatisfaction with the perceived high costs and aging facilities.

This hotel I have stayed at many many times, and it really holds it value when it comes to service, amenitites, and location.
The hotel could use a good refresh, as the rooms are somewhat dated, having an actual shower curtain is not very modern, the AC units are not very powerful, just overall touches you can tell just need a good makeover.
The pool is small, no jacuzzi, but I don't exactly come to the UTC area to frequent a nice hotel pool so to me it is fine. What makes up for the lack of a good luxurious pool is the Marriott La Jolla's vast gym facility:) It is super large for a hotel gym in this area, has everything people need, headphones, towels, water, free weights, machines, stations. It is clean and nice.
The UTC area of La Jolla has a few hotels, I have tried them all, and this is honestly the best value. It is centrally located near the shopping mall which is beautiful, walking distance or easy Uber to so many great places, not too far away from Del Mar or La Jolla Shores. Plenty to eat nearby.
The staff member Jazmine stands out to me as she always remebers my name, is super accomadating, friendly, kind, and really shows what wonderful, top notch customer service is at larger hotels. I have had horrible service from a hotel in this area nearby, and Jazmine is like a breath of fresh air and a happy face to see after checking in from long traveling.
Overall I would probably give this hotel 4 stars due to the pool being lackluster, the rooms needing some modern upkeep, and the AC units not being so strong, plus the plumbing in the rooms have some issues, almost every room I have stayed in has a slow shower drain etc.
But... the staff being kind, the Marriott honoring me late checks outs, them offering luggage storage, a nice spacious lobby with electrical outlets, seating, a bar, TV's to be comfortable while hanging out just makes life easier while traveling so why this hotel deserves 5 stars form me:) Plus Miss Jazmine!

Great location, near many interesting stores and restaurants. An added plus is the bar area, which makes really good salads, as a place to stop by during your stay. The view of the surrounding area is really great as well, especially if the room has a balcony. The parking/valet and internet access are both provided at a really good rate as well. This location also has a beautiful fire pit some really relaxing outside lounging areas to check out too. I really appreciated the super service provided by Josh and John as well, as they were totally professional and helpful. I'm not too familiar with this specific area, so they gave me some recommendations on tours and other fun things to do in Balboa Park and San Diego. They also told me about some of the events that go on here as well as how the Presidential suite looks, some really cool guys. I highly recommend the San Diego Marriott La Jolla, everything went smoothly and comfortably during my stay.

US is not the best when it comes to hospitality. Breakfast options are generally limited and very repititive, room service has extra cost, service is curt, tips are mandatory, lobbies are always crowded with locals etc.. But once you get used to all this, you will generally like the chaos that business hotels in the US offer. My room was quite comfortable and clean with decent views, room menu options were decent. The best part of the stay was the location. The hotel is right across a high end mall with some great dining options. There is an Asian restaurant across the road with great food and there are many Mexican places at a walking distance. Just for the location, the hotel deserves an extra plus. La Jolla is a great locality and I loved the vibe of the area.

We picked this hotel based on the premise of them providing two queen beds. The rate for the hotel was more expensive than the similar ones nearby with one king bed. Upon arrival we were informed that the room had a king bed and they could not do anything, other than providing one small roll-away bed. The rollaway bed was quite uncomfortable so kids ended up sleeping with us and needles to say we did not get much sleep. Hotel staff was unfriendly and had no intention to provide any incentive to ease the situation.

On top of that they charged us $15 for the internet which was supposed to be free, I spoke with 2 people two days in a row to get the charge removed and they said it would be done, it took another phone call to their main line and 40 minutes of conversation to get it removed after 10 days..

There was also an event and the hotel was packed and one of the elevators did not function. You can imagine the wait and hitting every floor going down once you are in... Never again...

We chose this hotel because of its close proximity to UCSD’s medical facility where I was scheduled for an early morning procedure.
The check in process was easy; we requested early check in and the room was ready when we arrived at 2pm. Service at the front desk was friendly and professional.
My request for a room on a high floor was honored, but we were disappointed in the condition of our room. The surfaces were covered in dust, the sheets looked rather yellow and worn, and the bathroom was not in very good condition. Besides the hairs in the bathtub, the grout is in serious need of deep cleaning, and the caulking needs repair.
On prior Marriott stays, we have found the tv remotes in plastic bags and signs limiting the occupancy in the elevators. None of these Covid protocols were in place, despite the spiking Delta variant.
There was only one option for on-site food, so I ordered a turkey BLT with avocado. When I brought the sandwich up to the room, I discovered it was basically a grilled cheese with salsa and rubbery chunks of overcooked turkey. No bacon. No avocado. I don’t recall seeing this on the menu, and it was basically inedible.
The soundproofing between rooms isn’t great. We could hear every door open and close in the hall, but the most disturbing thing was that every time our neighbors repeatedly slammed what we assumed was their bathroom door, our headboards rattled against the wall and our beds shook!
This property could use some updating in the rooms; not sure if we would choose to stay there again, given lots of other choices in the Golden Triangle area of La Jolla.

We were told over the phone that a rollaway bed could be added to the room. When we got to the hotel we were told this was not possible because it was a fire violation. We had to book another room on the spot to accommodate our family and the hotel would not give us the same rate as we had paid for the other room. Instead they wanted to charge over $100 more because the hotel was busy even though it was their staff that told us that could accommodate another bed. Once in the room discovered hairs in the shower, tiny old bath towels and in the morning had to call for extra coffee cups (only one in the room). Called front desk to help with WiFi access (not free unless you’re a Marriott member) and staff was unhelpful and not the friendliest. For the money and Marriott name expected better service and amenities. For the record, we have been Marriott members for years, but that didn’t seem to matter.

Came here for a stay-cation for our anniversary and ended up just going back home.
The hotel bar/restaurant was closed by 9pm on a friday, the pool was closed, and there was no breakfast buffet. Granted, this was mostly due to covid, but this was after California had lifted restrictions on hotels/bars. Unfortunately there was zero indication of this until after we had arrived. Parking was $32 a night which is ludicrous. Maybe the worst part was the room. After encountering the disappointment with the parking cost and being told nothing was open, we headed to probably the most disappointing hotel room we had ever encountered. It was very small, and very dated. Had the feeling of a very cheap hotel/motel, especially the 'bathroom' which was really just a vanity next to the front door and a toilet and shower in their own room.
After sitting in the room for 10 minutes with a crushing buzzkill we checked out and drove home. Unfortunately because we booked through priceline there was no refund. Based on quality of the room alone I cannot recommend this hotel.

Words cannot express my gratitude towards the staff at Marriott La Jolla. They were more than accommodating for our company's needs to host our trainings. Before taking on the massive project of planning this event, I had not had any event planning experience. Typically our organization would outsource this size of a project to a professional event planning service.

Linette, Director of Sales and Marketing and Bahar, Group sales manager, helped me each step of the way; room blocks, food and beverage orders, meeting room set ups and AV needs for over 50 employees, spanning several months. With many moving parts, they took time to meet with us to discuss plans, upcoming needs and address changes. Bahar even took time to teach me best practices to manage different room blocks/group meals. Their team made sure that we had what we need, when we needed it and helped me gain valuable skills that I will take with me. By the last week, I felt like I had the knowledge to plan an even larger event.

Each day we were greeted with a smile from Abebe who made sure all the meals were delicious and accommodating to different diets. Carlos had all of our meeting rooms set up with the AV needs and setting to accommodate varying groups of people- all being flexible when plans changed. The food was fantastic, as the planner I got compliments saying that the meals were "way better than usual hotel food." Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the full experience they provided.

This team did not take any short cuts, they made sure every detail was perfect. They went above and beyond to ensure a concierge level service for our group and I could not have accomplished it without their team. If you are planning an even in San Diego, look no further.

It was a surprise that this hotel only allows one Marriott Ambassador member to eat with a $10 voucher instead of two as I did confirm with the hotel that it was for two people before I booked this hotel. Not sure what they expect the two of us to eat for $10 as I know that the Marriott Ambassador program usually allows breakfast and evening reception for two. I went there and was only able to get a cup of coffee for $5.25 and no food as everything was priced over the $10 for a drink and a breakfast sandwich. The positive thing was that Cindy is always nice as usual and love her positive and happy attitude for the past 18 years that we have stayed at this hotel. Aeriel Colbert sent me and email to give this hotel a perfect 10! When I told her about my credit card being overcharged and the breakfast voucher, she stated that the hotel will offer more perks for high status guests. Without perks, why pay the extra money to stay at a Marriott as you might as well stay at the Residence Inn or Courtyard Marriott.

Stayed one night in July 2022. Had a very warm welcome from Angel at the front desk, who made me feel like family. Angel helped me get a room that suited my preferences as well, double beds, high floor, etc. The rooms are very clean and functional, with easy to access light switches and outlets, a full sliding door to get out to the small balcony, and the fresh air meant I did not need AC and I slept better as a result. Great water pressure, nice and hot in the sink and shower, and the provided soap/shampoo seemed of high quality. I did not eat at the hotel or use the gym, but I did stop by the outdoor lounge and had great service from Colin who crafted an excellent Old Fashioned. I returned to the hotel the next day because I had left a shirt in the closet, and they found it right away. Very pleased with the stay, especially with the caring staff, and will stay again.
