Detailed Reviews
I chose to give the hotel a second chance after a less than stellar stay earlier in the year, and I’m very glad I did. What a difference a few months made, the new Living Room space is just beautiful and the high tea served there is the best I’ve encountered in the states. I was given a nice upgrade to light flooded suite with southern exposure and a working fireplace, and I had an excellent dinner and breakfast at the restaurant, as well as arranged an impromptu lunch with friends that was handled with grace and precision. I was so impressed by the effort that I chose to return again at the end of my trip, and while the bungalow given then was closer to the street and very dark, in the hotel’s defense, I specifically requested something different from the last time and now know I am not a pool villa person (to each their own).
While I am not often in LA, I can attest that there is a true dirth in luxury hotels with many touting five stars without delivering quality service or food and Bev… so whenever I do come back again, I will definitely consider returning to the Bel Air, or at least trying their sister property again.

Myself and my husband came for four nights over Christmas.
The pros; The staff that greeted us were pleasant and professional. We were also upgraded upon arrival which was appreciated. Our spa treatments were excellent. The spa itself could’ve had more amenities such as couples hot tub, couples steam room etc but overall the services and team were excellent.
Pool side service was also great and the food menu was nice. Drinks in the piano bar were fantastic and the grounds throughout are beautiful and extremely well kept.
The cons; for the nightly rate one would expect parking to be complimentary. Housekeeping was subpar at best. Breakfast was hit and miss and expensive for what was provided. Room service food was way below average and Christmas Day dinner was close to inedible.
That said the hotels response to our concerns, especially around housekeeping which we provided pictures of, was swift and professionally handled and their gesture was greatly appreciated. It gave me confidence to rebook and revisit and hopefully after that we can chalk our dec trip down to the holidays and all that goes with that and see the hotel for all its glory.

Dear @Cassidyjem, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback from your stay in December. I was truly delighted to read your thoughtful comments about the hotel and our staff and will certainly be sure to share your comments with the rest of the staff. Additionally, I am sorry to hear that your dining experience was not consistent nor was it the luxury service level you deserve. We greatly appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention and please know that I will follow up with our Director of Food & Beverage to ensure this does not continue to happen. Again, thank you for your honest feedback @Cassidyjem. It was a pleasure to have you with us over the holidays, and we hope to welcome you back to our estate soon. Warm Regards, Denise Flanders

In an era where a lot of hotels have lost their personal touch and excellent service post-pandemic, hotel Bel Air has bucked that trend and upped the ante. We were upgraded upon arrival for our Christmas stay to the Grand Suite which was spacious and perfect for our two dogs with a private and enclosed patio and garden space. There were special Christmas treats both for us and our two year old son. Unlike some many other luxury hotels that have weirdly and inexplicably raised pet fees to hundreds of dollars, bel air hotel has kept their rates a very reasonable $ 35 per night.
The grounds are gorgeous and immaculate. The hotel is quiet yet very close to most of what one would want to see on the west side and Beverly Hills.
My only two gripes are the room service which is consistently awful and the fact there is no hot tub on the grounds. But given the amazing service and treatment, this will be our default hotel in the area moving forward.

Dear @sftraveler3, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us regarding your most recent stay at Hotel Bel-Air. We are delighted to learn that your family had a wonderful time during the holiday in our Grand Suite! I hope you had a pleasant time exploring our gardens and beautiful Swan Lake. I am disappointed to learn that your Room Service experience was not the five-star dining experience you deserve, nor did it live up to your expectations. Your review is highly valued and we welcome constructive feedback from all our guests. Again, thank you for your candid feedback. I wish you and your family a healthy and prosperous New Year. We look forward to welcoming you back to Hotel Bel-Air. Warm Regards, Denise Flanders

Had booked through the fine hotels with American express with a bunch of privileges including early check in, room upgrade etc. We checked in past 4 pm in spite of an early check in. The room electricity was not working with the switches not operatable. The hotel engineer was there for a full half hour in the room hampering any chance of relaxing or even using the washroom. After insisting on speaking for a change of room the manager John Pierce offered to change the room and a spa service to make up for the pathetic experience not expected at a property of this stature. The spa called with three time options and services which suited them, which I declined.
In short checking in from their sister property The BeverlyHills Hotel this was poor handling of a returning custom. Can't wait to leave tomorrow and don't think want to return. The changed room had one chair as opposed to the couch in the earlier room and a smaller patio.
Will not be considering this property in the future where working electric switches was not a ginen!!

We were planning a trip to the Beverly Hills area in march, however when looking at room rates for the Hotel Bel Air, I must conclude that the hotel is drastically overpriced compared to similar five star hotels in the area. A 755 square foot patio suite at the hotel Bel Air costs a jaw-dropping $6,000 per night plus tax, while an 825 square foot Villa Suite with Patio and Jacuzzi at the Peninsula Hotel is at $2,800 per night. It would seem like the Bel Air is overpriced charging ober twice as much for a similar suite.

I booked a stay at Hotel Bel Air two weeks in advance but had to cancel due to the escalating conflict in Israel. Given the dangerous situation, I could not leave my children behind. Despite these extenuating circumstances, the hotel has insisted on charging us the full fee for the canceled booking. This level of inflexibility and lack of understanding in such a dire situation is absolutely disgusting. Their behavior is both disappointing and deeply unprofessional. I strongly advise against booking with Hotel Bel Air, especially if you might face unexpected emergencies.

We stopped by for a drink during the holidays and Chloe was the best service - even making sure the lamb wasn’t “gamey” enough for me and making sure all of my food allergies wouldn’t be a worry to me. She was so attentive despite a busy room, and she made sure everything was perfect for us. I will always return some place if they have the best service. We recommend getting the penicillin and egg nog cocktail!

Hotel Bel-Air is removed from the hubbub of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles (a benefit or drawback depending on what you're looking for) in a beautiful and secluded canyon set among lush, mature gardens. Some older hotels slowly fall into ruins and get that old, musty feeling. But the rooms here have been immaculately updated to include warm, wooden ceilings and tasteful, marble floors. I don't think any rooms have a great view but they probably all look at some aspect of the gorgeous gardens. The rooms are also quiet which is important to me. If mobility is difficult for you, make sure you request a room close to the lobby since the hotel is spread out a bit.
The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired IMO in terms of value for what the food tastes like. Even though its evidently run by Wolfgang Puck, you'd be in much better hands heading over to Beverly Hills for dinner or lunch.
Other than that, this is by far my favorite upscale hotel in the LA area I've stayed at and will definitely stay here again when I come back!

What I love most about this beautiful property is that you are in Los Angeles but the location feels like an exclusive private hideaway. If you want to venture out of Bel Air the hotel is easy to get around via a vehicle. The scenery and grounds at the hotel are stunning!! The pool, fitness facility, restaurant, bar, rooms were all five star plus. No complaints about the service which was absolutely perfect. I almost hate giving such a great review because I want this hotel to be my little secret (obviously it is no secret given the storied history and popularity of the hotel) I have stayed at other five star hotels in LA (The Peninsula, Waldorf Astoria, L'hermitage and The Beverly Hills Hotel) and Hotel Bel Air is the best. This is my third visit at the hotel and everything felt as new and luxurious as my first stay. This is definitely my happy place!! I hope to continue to be lucky enough to travel to this slice of heaven in the future.

As a frequent visitor to LA, I've long heard of the hotel's reputation and storied past. As a treat to celebrate our first vacation in three years and missed twentieth anniversary trip due to the pandemic, we decided to upgrade our typical hotel stay by booking at the Bel-Air.
In was unlike any previous hotel stay I've experienced. The highlight was that the service was top notch at every level. Everything from the personalized check-in, the valet service, restaurant staff, and housekeeping were incredible. The grounds of the hotel were superb, retaining the historical nature of the hotel. Our room were beautiful, modern, and quiet. Many times during the walk to and from our room, we didn't see any other guests. During our stay, there were always plenty of lounges by the pool and never a crowd.
The hotel bar at night, especially on the weekend, was hip and featured a pianist or combo.
Downsides? Not many. The fitness area was small, but during our three-day stay, I never saw anyone in there other than myself. And the Uber rides to West Hollywood or Beverly Hills were a little pricy at times, but hey, that's LA and nothing to do with the hotel.
Would I stay there again? You bet. Hopefully, that will happen sometime soon.

WhiskeyLover asked a question Nov 2020
La Canada Flintridge, California6 contributions14 helpful votesAre the Private plunge pools off the suites heated? Curious if there are value in these during a December night stay. Thanks
Yes we had a private plunge in the Canyon Studio. The Canyon suite and premier canyon also has had them. At the higher end of the price scale most of the signature suites have them too. They were out of our price range but the Patio Suite, swan lake suite and Grace Kelly’s suite have them for sure.
My apologies for my late reply. Yes, some rooms have been renovated, some not. Of course, there is the new section, located up the side of the slope bordering the front of the property. Those rooms are terrific.
Hotel Bel-Air reopened in October of 2011 following a comprehensive two year renovation that included the debut of new guestrooms and suites.
I hope this answers your question, and we look forward to welcoming you to Hotel Bel-Air soon.
Regards,
Denise Flanders, General Manager
Dear Babycakes,

If there is anything I can further assist with, please do let me know. Until then,we hope to welcome you and your family to Hotel Bel-Air in the near future.
