Our stay at the American Hotel in the Art District of LA was not only budget-friendly but also accompanied by outstanding service. The hotel, clean and spacious, provided a wallet-friendly option in the heart of the arts scene. What made our experience even better was the friendly and helpful Masuma at the front desk. She went above and beyond, providing us with an early check-in, making our visit seamless and enjoyable. If you seek affordability coupled with top-notch service, the American Hotel, with its dedicated staff like Masuma, is a commendable choice. Highly recommended for a hassle-free stay in the heart of creativity.

Great experience for 2 nights as a solo (woman) traveler. The place is very safe, quiet, clean and cost-effective. The room was very comfortable (the picture is accurate) and the bed incredibly comfortable. The shared bathroom feature was more than fine - a private bath and a womens and mens large baths on each floor. I loved the Arts District neighborhood and walking around Little Tokyo. Finally the staff (Musama) was very friendly and helpful

It was a long ride from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to the American Hotel located at the center of the inspiring Downtown Arts District. Quite an expensive taxi ride; nonetheless, I gladly reached the place where I had to stay for almost a week before my onward journey to Asia. Fortunately, someone came running down the steep stairs to open the door; and he assisted me with my heavy luggage. His name's Justin if I wasn't mistaken. (I had no idea what the door code was!) There was no elevator in the hotel, and I had to ascend the steep stairs to check in on the second floor. A security deposit of US $100 had to be given upon check-in but the same was refundable on check-out time. However, I haggled for $50 deposit which was then refunded back to my debit card after a week. My room was on the second floor and it had a double bed that was comfortable enough, conducive to a good sleep. There was a convenient water and ice dispenser on the same floor. The shared toilets and bathrooms were very clean. What I appreciated most was the concern and helpfulness of the staff, especially regarding the television. The remote control was not working for the TV system; and they did not stop rectifying it till the next day. When I opened the door the next morning, a new remote control was by my door with a note, "this one should work now; and in case still not, let us know.". A warm "Thank You" to the staff of the American Hotel. Your property had complemented my visit to Los Angeles, California. …

In Art District. Pie Hole is in the same bldg. This area used to be insecure but now is relatively safe, surrunded with fashionable shops or middle-classed residence. Suitable for exploring in AD. Shared showers and restrooms were clean and maintenanced well. The building itself is old but the hotel had new interiors. I don't wonder.. they have kitchens. There was a kind receptionist.

Having stayed mostly in Hollywood & DTLA on previous trips, this time I opted for the Arts District & the American Hotel. And it turned out to be a pretty great find. Located on a fairly chill block at the northern end of LA's so-called Arts District, the American Hotel is a low-rise walk-up above a pie shop & convenience store, and down the street from a couple of craft breweries. The Metro Gold line to Pasadena is six blocks away, and the Red line to Hollywood is about 11 blocks west. Overall, the neighbourhood has a neat, non-tourist vibe which I appreciated, with decent opportunity to explore on foot. As has been noted in other reviews, the hotel/neighbourhood are within close proximity to the north-east corner of LA's skid row tent cities & social services. I have to imagine that unless you're out seeking trouble, it's unlikely you'll encounter any, as was my experience. After-hours noise on the block through the early part of the week was never an issue for me, although I did have the A/C running at that time. The room itself is rather plain, as expected, but the mattress was firm-enough and the bed comfortable overall. The bathroom situation was actually quite good, and I never experienced a line-up or cleaning issue. One suggestion for management would be to include a robe & slippers to go to & from the bathrooms, because it's a bit of a challenge to walk down the hall, soap/shampoo/etc in-hand, while keeping your flimsy towel on! An easy/cheap fix that would go a long way to making the experience better. In terms of price, and with the way DTLA hotels & AirBnBs have increased over the years, I hope the American Hotel remains an option for me, because I would likely return.…

If you need a room to stay for a few nights in LA this is the ideal place. Just bare in mind there is at least 1 flight of stairs to climb to the room with luggage, if not 2 or 3. Hotel located a bit out the way - 20 minutes walk to civic centre metro station. Downtown area quite dodgy but hotel in Arts district so not as bad. Room perfectly adequate with a tv, comfy bed, desk and fridge which we didn’t realise was in the room so an added bonus. There is 1 male and 1 female bathroom on each floor with 2 toilets and 2 showers, which were very open with no discreet area to change. There is also a separate bathroom with toilet and shower in which is more private. They provide 2 water bottles every day although on one instant the bed wasn’t made and bottles not replaced, but received 4 the next day! Can request for a kettle. Overall, the stay was pleasant but at little out the way for the LA sites.…

Good points: Lovely and very helpful reception staff. Stayed 4 days and didn't meet one that wasn't incredibly helpful. Bed very comfy Good value for money Less good points: Noisy at night though the hotel do provide earplugs. No duvet cover - just a sheet above and below the duvet, and these obviously move when you are turning over in bed etc so didn't feel totally hygienic. Room service not done on 2 consecutive days - reception weren't sure why this was and did come down to change towels etc themselves when I flagged it up - as the cleaners had gone home by the time we got back. The cleaning staff were quick to knock on doors to come and clean the room bang on 11am checkout time, so they obviously knew how long our stay was. Located on outskirts of Skid Row - we weren't familiar with this but it is dodgy area in downtown LA. Not located in Skid Row itself but not far away from it.…

We stayed two nights in this nice hotel.. Wide, cleaned and comfortable room in urban chic style.. We had a room for 4 persons but divided into two separate ones. The bathroom was shared among more rooms but was wide, cleaned and with good showers. Also the extern was charming with colored urban murals. Really appreciated!

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, and due to the great location and wonderful staffs, I wanted to extend my stay. The room is very clean and modern, with shared bathrooms. There is one big bathroom separately for men & women with shower booths and toilets and another accessible bathroom on each floor. Depending on the hotels guest that night, the bathroom could be clean or dirty- i experienced both. the location is great- in arts district, and walking distance to little tokyo and the arts district. was in a very cute neighborhood. other than that, the front staffs were super friendly and nice and helpful. The staffs truly made my stay here comfortable and pleasant. thank you!

The good thing --------------------- The room itself was clean with a double bed, small table and two chairs. There was a flat TV and had most channels subscribed to. There is a maid service every day who does your bed and removes trash. Two water bottles are replenished every day. Thre is a small open hanging facility for your clothes. Two drawers and a safety box. Wifi was good and functional throughout our stay. On the flip side --------------------- The room was small as compared to the perception we get from the photos. The location is quite a walk from the nearest Little Tokyo metro station. The rooms are on the upper floors and it can be quite an effort to lift your luggage to your rooms. Quite a job if you are not used to it. Vegetarians and Vegans will find it difficult to find a decent eating place. SUBWAY was our only choice, which was quite a distance from our hotel. We had a big concrete wall (2 feet away) as our view from our window which was quite a disappointment. The hand shower was not functional in two of the shared bathrooms on the floor we stayed. We had a missed maid service on one day. In the whole the stay left us with a sense of unfulfilled feeling for the money we paid. We should have hunted more for a better accommodation the money we paid.…
