August 12th, My friends and I were supposed to spend the night in this hostel after booking it (and paying the deposit they asked for) according to their policies, and for some reason the reservation got canceled one day before (August 11th). We had to look for another hostel/hotel for that night. Best of all, today is October 2nd and...

I don't like slating places but honestly, this place was shocking. We arrived to check in and were told it was $12 to pay by card or the cash machine cost $3.50 and the max you could take out was something like $250. The lady checking us in didn't speak English and so couldn't answer our questions on "where is...

I cant understand how people are telling this hostel was their best experience ever. I consider myself traveller and backpacker because I've been travelling over 20 countries and leaving long time in others (The Netherlands, Serbia, Finland, etc.). However, I never found a hostel as bad as this. Rooms are too old and smell very bad. Hostel in general is...

I stayed here for 6 nights and it was a pleasant stay. It is in a great location to get to Venice and Santa Monica by bus, it has a great cafe opposite the hostel to get breakfast and or lunch. The beds were comfy, there was a fan to keep the room cool at night and the atmosphere was...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Venice beach hostel for a total of 4 weeks in June and July 2014.Looking at the reviews we were pleasantly surprised, most people writing negative reviews in my opinion are being a bit too picky. The hostel hasn't had a massive refurb or been modernised like the samesun hostel down the road but your...

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a few days upon arriving in the states. After a long flight the staff at reception told us they were busy and we had to wait 20 minutes to check in. The same staff member (thin man with grey hair) was abrupt and discourteous throughout our visit. Our dorm and the whole hostel...

We arrived as a group of 5 and they put us into 3 separate rooms, then to top that off two of us who were in one room had unpacked and settled in when we were informed we would have to move rooms because a family had booked our room. We spent one night in the new room and were...

Before I went to this hostel I stayed at 'THE Venice beach hostel' on Washington Blvd which is a very similar price and is awful, so went to Venice beach hostel which was a whole lot better! Great location, very chilled out vibe, common room is ok, the room was decent enough, it is a little run down but hostels...

Checked out about 12 and was told wasn't getting my key deposit back. This has never happened me before. I didn't even bother to argue just thought it was very unfair. Had already handed out 200$ for my stay and got penalised for this. The room was dark and had no window. The bunk beds were cat!! Very poor. Would...

At $40 a night this hostel is not cheap... But the rooms are nice (girls 6 bed dorm has just been re-vamped) lockers in the room, en suite shower was really nice. Each bed had shelf, light and plugs, and little curtains for privacy. Great location, right next to the beach, be careful wandering round at night though! Ezra and...

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
