Hotel's Favourite
If you are in LA for work and are looking to stay active, look no further than this place. It is a super plush hotel built on top of a wonderful fitness facility. And, I mean WONDERFUL: comprehensive weights and mobility, conditioning equipment, boxing, whole 9 yards of recovery (cold and hot pools/saunas etc), pool. There is also an excellent BJJ place a block away (High Level Jiujitsu).
Rooms are superbly appointed and there is a very posh co-working space.
Service at the hotel as well as the athletic club are top draw. You will feel like you belong there. Shout out to front desk manager Kai who was extraordinary.

Imagine you arrive downtown LA, and are are given an enormous, elegantly decorated room with a stunning view, in a fantastic historic building, perfectly renovated, with its distinctive beaux arts details. Then you walk into the bar, where the Athletic Club members greet you, and a particularly generous one offers to take you to a tour of the building, so you discover the most incredible sporting facilities, but also small secret rooms behind faux book shelves. Then you get a drink, when a talented jazz trio begins to perform. The next morning you join a pilates class, while in the evening you swim in an olympic size pool, then you relax in the steam bath and the world pool, pleasantly chatting with friendly locals, who give you great restaurant tips. Sure, the place is not perfect (wifi in the rooms is atrocious), but the atmosphere is unique, it feels like home faraway from home. Thank you LA Athletic Club for having welcomed us with such grace and kindness!

Dear MattClaire097, Thank you for sharing your unique experience at the Los Angeles Athletic Club! We are delighted that you enjoyed the elegance and history of our building, as well as the welcoming atmosphere created by our members. It is also wonderful to know that you appreciated the stunning view, the hidden gems within our facilities, and the enjoyable jazz performance. Most of all, we are thrilled that you found us to be a home away from home, despite the challenges with the room wifi. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we look forward to welcoming you back with the same grace and kindness on your next visit. Najeeb Shamsid-Deen | Hotel Manager

Room was very satisfactory and club facilities are excellent. Lobby and fitness staff were all friendly and accommodating. The maids were apparently doing whatever they could to avoid cleaning the rooms, even when I was out the whole day. It shouldn't be hard for them to find cleaning staff that is a lot more professional. As with all downtown hotels, the surrounding area is not nice, dirty vagrants and marijuana smoke everywhere, somebody should send the mayor a memo. First choice among downtown hotels in any case

Dear VANILLASKYYY, Thank you for sharing your review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your room and had a positive experience with our club facilities, as well as our lobby and fitness staff. However, it is disappointing to know that the housekeeping service didn't meet your expectations, and we will certainly address this to ensure our team upholds the level of professionalism our guests deserve. While we cannot control the conditions outside the hotel, we deeply appreciate your loyalty and are honored to remain your first choice among downtown hotels. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Najeeb Shamsid-Deen | Hotel Manager

but when we asked for a vegan option when we sat down for the breakfast we had paid for included in our room rate we were told that what had been served was it and if we wanted anything to suit our dietary requirements we would have to order off the menu and this would be charged to our room. This seems wholly unfair and was such a let down when we left without any breakfast.
Otherwise the hotel had good, clean facilities with a super comfy bed. The car park is accessible through lifts in and out of the hotel lobby which was very convenient.

We stayed at LAAC for four nights in the Yacht Club Suite. It was a wonderfully decorated and felt like a mini-apartment. They have regular rooms available as well. The bathroom was small, but we were prepared for that. The bed and linens were extremely comfortable and divine to sleep in. The hotel is downtown and there was some street noise, but a white noise app on your phone works wonders. The staff was professional, courteous, helpful and wonderful!!! The hotel is well kept and clean, and has tons of athletic amenities (it is an athletic club) and we were able swim, and work out. The view from the roof deck of down town skyscrapers is not what you think of when you think LA, but was impressive. You receive a 15$ breakfast voucher and the dining room is decorated like a men's club with historic athletic memorabilia. The food and ambiance in the main dining room was fantastic. Museums, theaters, and spectacular restaurants are located a few blocks away. This is a city, and you need to be aware when you are out, but we had zero issues. Overall, if you have to be in downtown LA, this is a wonderful place to stay.

This hotel, which actually its not, is very old and moldy and it feels/smells that way. This place was built in 1880 and it feels that way. Here are the issues with our stay.
1. We weren't told there was going to be a 'DJ' fest going on 2 blocks away at an park that started at 5 pm - 12 am, that the bass was so loud that we were on the 12th floor and it was vibrating the room. Basically like being in a war zone for 6 hours.
2. The lighting in the bath room and shower was like from a Physco movie. Very dim.
3. The connection for the phone was pulled out from the wall and had no cover.
4. The tv was so small about the size of a laptop screen, the beds were so far away had to sit in an uncomfortable chair to watch.
5. The 'Hotel' (again we don't believe it qualifies to hold that name) is centered in 'old' downtown LA, they have to lock the doors at 9 pm. On the street, extreme amount of homeless and not friendly ppl. Not a place I would stay with a family. We have two younger kids 13 & 9 and this was not a place I would recommend staying.
6. The AC didn't work, the 'maintenance' guy came by and said, 'well, yeah I guess its not cooling', said he was going to check and see if they could move us to another room, No such luck as they were booked due to the 'KPOP' concert at crypto.com center.
7. The 'continental breakfast' is a complete joke, they brought like a small 3 tier like tray that had like 2 cold crescent's and a couple of sauces on it. That was it. Most 'continental breakfast's include eggs, cereal, bacon, sausage, etc.
8. We ordered a simple breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes. There were only 5 tables occupied in the entire dining area. It took 45 mins to get our bfast and it was disgusting. The pancakes were burnt, the eggs were cold, the sausage tasted like it had been dropped on the floor and rubbed in some kind of cleaner. I stated the same to the server and she came back and the only thing they did right was to 'void' the check. After an hour of waiting and crappy food. McDonalds has a better breakfast than this place.
This is by far the worst 'hotel' I've ever stayed at. I've stayed at better hotels in 3rd world countries that are 100 times better than this place. I've been to over 30 countries and this one is the worst ever. The best place I've ever stayed are hotels in Manali Philippines.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club dates back to the 1880s so for more than 100 years it has occupied this building. In the 1960’s the club repurposed old offices on the upper floors and opened the Hotel. So when you come to stay here you are staying in this very old historic building that for more than a century has served (and continues to serve) the citizens of Los Angeles.
I choose this hotel because it had a mid-range price point compared to the other high priced hotel chains that occupy downtown LA. I had no idea what I was going to find when I came here. My hotel room is on the 11th floor but below us the Athletic club unfolds. The Athletic club is still a working club so As you descend the stairs you feel like you are walking backward in time. You pass through the old basketball court and squash courts. You pass the Olympic sized swimming pool and large room devoted to boxing. The actual floor with fitness equipment includes multiple rooms with every kind of equipment you can imagine including an indoor track. The lower floors have several ballrooms, a lounge and men’s and woman’s locker rooms all in a classic old wood paneled style you would associate with private clubs of the early 1900’s. As I walked I saw many locals engaged in athletic pursuits even as you passed museum cases filled with historical memorabilia and old trophies. Next time I stay here I hope to be here for several days because being a guest means you can use all the fitness facilities and you will never be in a hotel with more. If I had a family and was a tourist I would stay here as the kids would have great fun. I had fun just taking in the historical marvel this hotel’s decor and architecture represented.
Our room was modern and large although the bathroom was small as you expect with old refurbished buildings. Heavy drapes covered the glass windows to the outside street so while there is a bit of noise, nothing that distracted us from a good night sleep. Water pressure, comfortable beds, good wifi and cable were all of the quality you would expect as was the service. Wait until you see what room you have breakfast in.
One of the unexpected nice things about staying here is that the hotel resides on one end of the historic district of LA and as you walk out the front door of the hotel, you are surrounded by other old buildings with Art Deco exteriors and interiors. It makes for a great walk. Lastly, if you come here note that there is a parking garage immediately behind the hotel that is linked to the hotel, so its best to park and bring your belongings into the lobby rather than to try to stop in front of the hotel. Reduced parking is afforded to guests. My wife and I have stayed in many hotels, we were delighted at the opportunity to see this building and stay here.

Hi all! Sometimes you really want to change your surroundings and, at least for a couple of days, go to a place where they will take care of you, where it will be beautiful and tasty)
Fortunately, now there is a huge selection of various recreation centers and country hotels - just decide what is closer to your liking and wallet. This summer, for our next wedding anniversary, we decided to find a place for a couple of days within a reasonable distance from the city, and in the end the choice fell on Ildorf.

My wife and I had a concert at the nearby Teragram Ballroom and didn't want to drive all the way home to Sacramento after the show. The LAAC come up as the most 'affordable' for our Saturday evening and $20 for secure parking was a bonus so we could Uber to and from the event. We had a King Suite, loved the room wishing we could have stayed longer, honestly. We will come back to LAAC when our favourite bands skip the Bay Area/NorCal and are playing Downtown LA again.
Next time: white noise machine to keep the late night sirens and engine revving in the background rather than foreground of sleep.

Call it a 3.5
We’ve stayed at the LA Athletic Club several times. It is still a lovely, historic, centrally located, transit accessible hotel. The rooms are still attractive, the beds still comfortable. The pool, which my wife enjoyed, is still great, though you need reservations.
But in these post-COVID days:
The old world style breakfast room is closed, replaced by reasonably good grab and go bags.
The bar is closed, replaced by a short hours spot on the garage roof.
The garage elevator is turned off at 9, earlier on weekends. My disabled wife had to walk down the ramp. We could have spent less than LAAC’s $20 for parking had we known. They said it was for security, but there are more effective ways to achieve this.
Maid service isn’t daily, it’s by request only. OK, but two straight days we requested it and didn’t get it. Our trash cans were overflowing because of getting more take out food in this COVID time. I had to stop a cleaner in the hall to dispose of trash.
The building entrance is now around the side, next to a narrowed entrance.
I hope the Athletic Club gets back to its old form.
Oh yeah, there are street people in the neighborhood. Mostly what there are working people, but just know this if it bothers you.

It certainly is. It's about 10-15 minutes from our front door and so is the convention center...unless you get distracted and stop for sushi or shopping on the way ;-)
Yes. There is a mini refrigerator in each room (1.7 cubic feet). it has a small area for ice trays, but no real freezer space.
There is a lovely buffet breakfast offering eggs, oatmeal, bacon, fruit, pastries, and many other seasonal options. On weekends we often have a delicious coconut bread pudding included as well! Yum.
Our big pool is only designed to swim laps but we do have a small pool for the kids right next to it.
It will be easy to find out. Just contact the club, directly, at its website or call 213-625-2211.
