Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Short Stories Hotel is celebrated by guests for its distinctive and imaginative decor, fostering a welcoming and cozy yet vibrant environment. The service generally earns high marks for staff friendliness and efficiency, although occasional reports of front desk issues do surface. Despite its central location and praise for spotless rooms with quality amenities, some guests have concerns about value, mentioning steep parking charges and costly services. Additionally, while the themed rooms and cleanliness receive accolades, the hotel's limited dining options and potential for cramped, noisy rooms have been noted.

Came to LA with my teenage daughter after a cheerleading competition from Australia and was looking for somewhere that was safe, comfortable and within walking distance to shops, restaurants etc. Short stories fit the brief perfectly.
The hotel is beautiful with a courtyard that is lovely lit up at night. The rooms were a good size with comfy beds and filled with little extras like magazines, books and nice bath products. Coffee and tea are also available every morning on your way out for the day.
The location of the hotel is perfectly situated across the road from the farmers market, the Grove and a big bus hop on off bus stop. Down the road are Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. I personally loved the area and would always chose to stay here on return visits.
I found the staff pleasant and helpful especially on our last day where the gentleman at the front desk went above and beyond to assist us when we had a late flight.

This is the type of hotel that I’d normally like to keep secret and if they didn’t deserve the highest of ratings, I’d normally keep to myself. I stayed here for a week, with my husband joining on the weekend and was sad to leave by the end of it. The team are incredible, the housekeeping, the front desk and the restaurant team all went out of their way to make it a beautiful week, offering Nespresso pods, yoga mats, collecting Amazon packages and anything else I could ask for. Loved the non pretentious but stylish vibe that reflects through the design as well as the people. The restaurant has a relaxed, charming Mediterranean vibe and the food and cocktails are made with the freshest ingredients and filled with love. All in the center of West Hollywood, the location is walking distance from everything I needed, for once in LA I didn’t even feel the need to rent a car. Congratulations, can’t wait to come stay again.

This hotel is fabulous. Location is amazing. The staff could not be nicer (especially Juliette.) I came with my two young girls and we didn't want to leave. You feel very cared for at this hotel - there's a welcome cocktail (the staff was so sweet about giving my kids extra welcome lemonade); the bed is heaven; and the Jonathan Adler toiletries smell divine. The restaurant, too, is so yummy. The pool is small but was fine for us. I'm a huge review person - I read everything before I stay someplace. We all loved Short Stories and can't wait to return.

This is the first time I stayed at Short Stories but my husband’s second time. This is a wonderful small boutique type hotel that is beautiful inside and was just opened in March of 2022. It has a stunning indoor-outdoor front desk and lobby area that spills out onto an outdoor enclosed patio area where there are lounge areas to eat and have a drink. The trees in this courtyard area have lovely lights that turn on at night and make for a visually stunning location to hang and enjoy the cool California weather. The pool is just off the courtyard with an entire wall of succulents as a design backdrop. Juliette and Kristina were wonderful greeting us at the front desk and making our stay extra special! The drinks and the food was delicious as well!! The rooms are super cool and are warm with beautiful linens and stunning furnishings. Bathroom had beautiful tile and I always had a nice hot shower. The interiors are comfortable and the room had herringbone wood floors and other textures to make for a casual but cool modern design. The property is made up of probably about 3-4 buildings that are only a few stories high, hence the name Short Stories. The location is perfect and across the street from the Farmer’s Market and The Grove so it was wonderful to simply be able to walk over and enjoy the restaurants and shops. I can’t speak highly enough of Short Stories Hotel and when we are back in LA we will be staying there again!

Short Stories Hotel was by far the most chic hotel I've ever stayed at. It's only a few months old so everything is new & clean. The highlight is definitely the open air lobby. I was given a complimentary upgrade when checking in which was great. The toiletries from Italy were also a great addition. Despite being right on a main road the rooms were quiet. It was definitely a good deal given what other hotels in LA are charging, likely because they are still trying to get the word out. They also had housekeeping & turndown service daily, which nowadays is quite impressive given staffing shortages. My main complaints are that the valet, which is way overpriced, was understaffed and I always had to wait to get or park the car. I also wish the hotel was in a more quiet location off the main road.

One of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The rooms were big and beautiful and the rest of the hotel grounds make you feel like you have escaped the hustle and bustle of La. The staff was friendly and provided personalized service and great recommendations of things to do and places to eat in the area. They location was amazing we walked to some of the best places around LA including the Grove which is literally across the street.

Awesome little hotel in a good neighborhood. This is an older hotel that's been completely redone, and other than a few maintenance quirks (like a loose toilet paper holder and low water pressure in the shower) it looks great.

The location is in a good neighborhood, across from the Farmers Market and Grove. Lobby is cute, pool is cute, but the courtyard is the gem of this place, especially at night. It really lights up and is a fantastic place to read, drink, or just hang out in. Quiet little refuge during the day and lively at night. The pool is a little hangout pool, just a couple of chairs, nothing to go do laps in.

Our room was in the south stories building. It was a junior suite with a fridge, couch, and king bed. The bed was awesome and pillows were soft. I could've slept in that bed all day. Housekeeping comes twice a day and let me tell you, that housekeeping and maintenance crew work their butts off to keep everything looking fantastic. You see them out and about everyday.

Parking is expensive at $45/nt, but it's like that everywhere. You have to pay to park everywhere in LA, even at some stores. 😬 Budget for this if you have a rental car.

Overall good place! Keep it up!

I took a tour of Short Stories because I live in the area and saw it being worked on. The Hotel has a really cool decor, mid-century mod with a Mediterranean twist. There is a courtyard and a restaurant adjacent to the lobby which looked like a great place to have dinner after power brokering at CBS. There is also a pool which is great and is oriented so it will get sun all day. They have a club membership so locals can have access to all the amenities of the Hotel, which my friends and I are seriously considering because we all live so close by. The tour gave us a peek at the standard room and the Kapua Suite. The standard is really good sized and very mindfully designed with all the comforts of home. The Kapua Suite is quite large with a comfortable sitting area. All the rooms are beautifully decorated, with each item curated and sourced from local artists and artisans. After the tour we had drinks and appetizers at the bar, an Older Fashioned and a Pisco Sour and Popped Artichokes and Tiradito to share. The meal and drinks were sublime. The vibe and decor of the restaurant flows seamlessly with the rooms we had just toured. The space truly transports you, you would never guess that you're in the middle of one of the busiest neighborhoods in LA. My friends and I came to the conclusion that Short Stories is aptly named, the hotel draws you in and immerses you in a brief visit to a wonderful place.

Actually the hotel was great (room and location) but the front desk "service" was so bad I wanted to flag the review for the manager/owner. When we arrived the man behind the desk was on the phone and as we waited for about 5 minutes he didn't acknowledge us at all - not even eye contact. A woman finally came to the desk and checked us in and it was so unfriendly - just going thru the motions. When I asked about the restaurant she said it was closed on Mondays so when I asked about room service she said the same thing. Come to find out there is no room service! Every time we went in or out the person behind the desk was looking at the screen (or perhaps her phone set up in front of her.) If we got eye contact that was it - barely a smile sometimes but that was it. We felt invisible. the only person who actually said something one time was Christina (I asked her name) and she said "welcome back" when we returned from breakfast. The day after we checked in we were gone the entire day and returned at 5 p.m. but the room hadn't been made up. When we called 0 we were routed to housekeeping to let them know but said it was too late and we didn't want it done. But 5 minutes later two housekeepers knocked on our door but neither of them could speak any English so all we could say was was "no, gracias." When we had a cocktail that night the server couldn't find us in the system and went to the front desk and found out we hadn't been checked in correctly so housekeeping didn't know about our room. Since I'd read several reviews about the great friendly service I was very surprised and disappointed that our experience (stayed 3 nights) was completely different. Please, eye contact, a smile and even a "good morning" or "have a nice day." Also when we asked for a breakfast recommendation neither of the people behind the desk were helpful. What about a list of nearby restaurants?

I don’t know which side I was on- the view was not anything notable but there were hills in the distance, I don’t think the view from the other side was notably different, maybe you could see the Hollywood sign from there but not to the extent that I’d rearrange where I was. That said , the room was very comfortable. The location is terrific and a few steps from the grove and farmers market and the hotel cocktail & dining space is VERY LOVELY, quite picturesque & the staff very nice & accommodating. I’d seen something about views but based on my experience I don’t think that part of the experience was notable.
