Everything at this hotel is designed to make the guests absolutely miserable. Forget about such incidentals as skid row location, dirty rooms, "unobtrusive" service, lack of closets and irons and a 20-year old TV. Torture by design goes further than that. On one side of the room there is a "desk" with power outlets but the phone and internet are... More

My husband and I stayed there during interviews for new jobs in a new city. I really think that my bad experience there made us not even consider the positions in that city. Once we arrived there was no one at the front to tell us where to park. The lobby reaked of cigarette smoke (and i'm allergic) - they... More

Kawada is a fit for those who just head to L.A. for leisure (since staying at the hotel all day is the last thing you will want to do as a leisure tourist). It has acceptable accomodations and basic facilities. Although downtown seems to be an unsafe place (the presence of beggers are evident, just as somebody already said here... More

I stayed at this hotel whilst on an adventure across America by myself last year. The hotel itself is ok, The rooms are very basic and the staff are polite enough but......Be aware that Downtown LA is like a scene out of a gangsta movie! Panhandlers and Derelicts constantly harrass you for money, and the whole area has a high... More

After viewing the hotel's website, we felt it sounded like the ideal place for us, especially at the price. However, after reading the reviews here we had second thoughts! HOwever, after a fair bit of research on other hotels we decided to split our time in LA between 2 hotels to lessen the risk and to see different parts of... More

We picked this hotel before leaving Australia from a travel brochure based on the reasonable price, and promise that it was great value and close to all the action. Our first night in LA was at a 4 star hotel in Hollywood, then we moved to this. What a contrast! The hotel borders the central business disctrict and the only... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
