Detailed Reviews
We were recommended to stay at Camp Lotus by ARTA (white water rafting), and we were so pleased we did. We stayed in the Cosumnes cabin, my wife, son and myself included. It was a wonderful place to use as a base for the rafting (ARTA were fantastic too - see my review of our two days with them). We hadn't known what to expect when we booked, but the cabin surpassed expectations. It was fairly spacious, had four beds (a double plus two singles), and the fittings were great: very efficient air conditioning, a good kitchen, a large bathroom, and a fair amount of privacy with, in effect, two outdoor seating areas. At night the campsite was calm and quiet despite being very busy on the first night we arrived. To sum up, we used Camp Lotus as a base for white water rafting and it is somewhere we will never forget. Thanks, Camp Lotus, for facilitating such a wonderful experience. We loved staying in Cosumnes cabin.

The campground is located on the South Fork American River and provides a very quiet and peaceful spot to get away from the crowds. RV campsites are level and shaded. Water and electricity at all sites. Campground is well maintained and clean. WiFi is good on the patio by the office/store but no signal at the sites. Hot showers but only cold water at the restroom sinks.

This place does NOT have an enforcer to enforce rules. Quiet time is between 10 pm - 8 am which isn't quiet at all. Some people stay up to 4 am!!! I would advise to have a grassy area or a not so bumpy place, and make sure you have some space, and have some privacy. Otherwise from the bad things, the place is quiet beautiful and very active with people and small beaches.

Absolutely terrible camping experience here at Camp Lotus. I am so eager to leave my feedback that I am writing this the moment I got home.
First the few good things about this camp:
1. It is close to Coloma and the Marshall Gold Discovery Park
2. The shop has quite a good selection of gear and merchandise and are reasonably priced
3. Many of the local river rafting company departs from this camp. The one we used was WET.
Now for the bad...
I took my family with 2 kids for some white water rafting and what I was hoping to be a good relaxing weekend. We arrived at around 11pm on a Friday night. In the car, I instructed the kids that the quiet hours were 10pm-7am so they should be real quiet so we don't disturb the other campers. When we arrived at our camp site J1, there were campers in J2 who clearly didn't care one bit about the quiet hours policy. They were drinking, cussing, talking and laughing loudly, and simply don't have any consideration for others. I asked them to tone it down at around 1am and that worked for about 20 minutes until more of their friends arrived around 1:30. Then the talking, weed smoking, drinking, and cussing continue until 4am. And I was kept up all night. One of their friends also thought they were too loud and decided to bring his sleeping bag and sleep on my campsite. Really???? Of course, there are no employees there to enforce the rules so everyone around those inconsiderate bastards just had to deal with it. I compliant the next day and the nice lady in the shop gave me a free muffin and only changed my campsite after I made multiple demands.
My kids and my wife were so disenchanted by the experience that they wanted to leave and not stay another night. But I insisted that we try and enjoy ourselves so we stayed. The next night we stayed at a different camp site and it was a little better. It was still too crowded as the place was packed with people and the entire camp is smokey. Everywhere you walk there are people all over so you don't feel you can truly wind down. Even though it was quieter than the first night, the noise at 12am was still quite loud all over. I went to sleep listening to some kids singing the National Anthem over and over. But I was too tired and burnt out to keep my eyes opened. I was awaken the next day at 6am by some kid who screamed and cried endlessly while his parents did nothing to stop him...yes, at 6am. If you choose this camp, don't expect to get more than 4-5 hours of sleep. And safety is of course another concern when you see and smell people smoking marijuana all over the place. And last but not least, parking is horrible as there are simply too many people. For $12 per person, it is anything but a bargain. I will not be coming to Camp Lotus again and also would NOT recommend this camp to anyone.
But for those who still want to book at this place even after reading this, I suggest you choose camp site H or I to be more secluded from other campsites. You will also be closer to the river so you will listen more to the water flow than people...hopefully. Good luck!
BTW, the only reason I gave them more than 1 star is because the lady in the shop did change my campsite and was apologetic that I was kept up till 4am by those rowdy and inconsiderate people. Do yourself a big favor and don't stay here.

Really disappointed in the misleading reviews. This is not a campsite, it is a crowded parking lot with a few patches of dirt and grass. OK if you need a place to sleep and party after river rafting, but not pretty in any way. Our "secluded" spot was a parch of grass next to the parking lot, their is a real lack of trees, mostly thorny berry shrubs. More resembles a homeless camp, than a campground. Not sure why this place gets any recommendations, but it does, so beware.

Let me just start by saying the employees need a lesson in customer service! I have camped there at least four times in the last 10 years. We just returned from our last trip in which we camped with RVs for five nights. On the last evening of our visit we were approached by another camper and asked to turn down music (it was 930pm). We complied, but apparently not to their liking. We respected the quiet hours (10pm) and all were inside our rigs by 1040 pm. The following morning, one member of our group was told we had had several complaints. She explained to staff what had taken place and we thought that was the end of it....Not! As we were packing up I was then approached in campsite by same employee. She said she had received complaints. I gave the same explanation to her as my fellow camper, however she was determined to make an argument out of it. Finally, my husband upon overhearing her put an end to the conversation (and not nicely). Another camper, in the site right next to us then came over and was just as astounded as we were with the employee's behavior. We asked if we had been too loud and she said that we had been fine and no one in their large group felt we had been disruptive.
I would like to add that my group consisted of four middle aged adults (all college educated and some in law enforcement) and three kids 12 and under (our grandkids). We are not the rowdy type by any means!
No matter how nice the campground is we will never return. We will take our business elsewhere where it will be appreciated and hopefully the employees will treat people courteously!

We stayed for 3 nights in late June, 2017, for rafting the Upper and Lower American River with ARTA. Our site ("N") was fairly private, being completely surrounded by large and thick blackberry bushes which provided free, tasty treats. The site was also well shaded by the trees. The water at each site is well water and very drinkable - indeed delicious, compared to typical yucky California water. It was a bit of a distance to the river and the road can be a bit dusty in summertime. Also, the plentiful Canadian geese leave droppings everywhere, but overall it is a pleasant campground with green grass at each site. In fact, the sound of sprinklers was ongoing throughout out stay. The bathrooms were clean, and while the showers closest to "N" were not private, there are other showers closer to the office and the RV side that I believe are private. I know the owners work very hard to maintain the campground and keep it clean.

Awesome place to spend a weekend. Things to know:
1) Very central for rafting. Many of the rafting companies operate nearby or even in the campground.
2) The owners are very serious about the quiet times and no dog policies. They patrol and make sure things get quiet at 10pm.
3) Tons of 20-something outdoor enthusiasts. They can be loud, roudy, and fun if you expect it. They can also be inconsiderate.
4) There are lots of families too...know what to expect.
5) lots of camping right on the river - puck your spots carefully and call the office for advice.
6) the store is actually a pretty good deal considering there is nothing nearby. Don't be afraid to go in and use the deli or get ice.

We just camped and partied at Camp Lotus all weekend for friends' anniversary. About 80 people and we had loads of camp sites and cabins. There was plenty of room for us to cook, eat, talk, and dance. During the day, people went rafting, kayaking, hiking and just sitting by the river. All in all it was very peaceful, very fun and the perfect place for a big group. I was also particularly grateful that all the facilities were super clean and the staff was fun and helpful.

Yes, but Im pretty sure if you go on a commercial raft you cannot because of liability.
"We stayed in #2, which was small and very close to #1 & #3. #1 is right on the road - no privacy. I think that #4 was the best in our row."Read full review
"This is a camping resort. There are also cabins but I didn't see them. We were in R camp site which had room for 3 tents, 2 picnic tables and was right next to the river (though screened from view by foliage). Great place to camp. The quiet policy really worked - everyone chilled out by 10. I was so grateful."Read full review
