This is a great private campground tucked away in the beautiful mountains of Kananaskis Country in Alberta. An hours drive from Calgary and about the same to Banff. Excellent campsites and you can rent Tipis, Trapper's tents, bring your own or haul along your trailer/5th wheel. Great little Trading Post where you can buy most camping food essentials, snacks, firewood,...

Beautiful wooded area. Great location. Staff was friendly. Outhouses weren't too bad (for outhouses). We had an older Trappers Tent. It smelled musty and wet and had told inside. Bugs & spiders everywhere inside. Holes in the floor so a chipmunk got in and made a home in our suitcase and jumped out and scared my kids at bedtime. They...

My family have been camping here for the last 6 years. We recently returned from a week long stay. This time we stayed in our own tent, but in the past we have stayed in both the tipis & trappers tents. We always enjoy the quiet atmosphere at the site and coupled with being outdoors & getting lots of exercise...

This was our first visit to Sundance Lodges and our first time taking our 3 and 5 yr old daughters camping. Rather than struggle with our old tent we rented a Trappers Tent whih had bed frames, vinyl mattresses and a heater. It was a fantastic experience all around. Its not a far drive from Calgary, it has a small...

We spent 2 nights in September, we should have stayed longer. We started in a tipi, but changed to a trappers tent due to rain. The trappers tents have a canvas covered deck area to keep the picnic table dry. Our family of 6 fit comfortably with room for gear. The tent heater kept us cozy during the 0 degree...

A friend told us about this campground and we had always driven by not giving it much thought. The other negative reviews had me a little worried that the rules were to strict. However, nothing was an issue and I found the quiet time rules were to my liking. They actually go around and make sure all noise is off...

Camped here 5 days and visited Banff NP and Calgary with the family. Both locations are less than 1 hour from the campsite. Bathrooms and showers were very clean and well maintained. ***Note to Managers - install flow compensating shower faucets! No longer need a sign warning of scalding water when toilets flush*** None the less showers were always hot....

After getting soaked the night before while tenting in Bow Valley, I was looking for a break. I thought we'd try Sundance Lodges for a night. Glad we did! The staff were very friendly and made you feel welcome. I rented a trapper's cabin for the night and my dogs were welcome too (for a nominal charge). The cabin was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
When you arrive at Sundance Lodges in Kananaskis, Alberta, you find yourself in the heart of the spectacular Rocky Mountains of Western Canada surrounded by jagged peaks of incredible beauty. A stay at Sundance encourages busy travelers to slow down and really experience nature - not just look at it, thus creating precious memories that nourish the soul. Since 1992, the Sundance owners and staff have been welcoming local and international travelers seeking a peaceful, low-impact rustic experience in beautiful self-catered tipis and comfortable trapper's tents nestled in the forest near the Kananaskis River. For their convenience, visitors can rent (hire) camping gear from Sundance, or if budget-minded, bring their own. Trading Post: location of the office, washrooms & showers, coin laundry, basic groceries, ice, rental sports equipment and a gift shop. Tipis: Our beautiful authentic Sioux design tipis reflect the heritage of the area. Nearby Stoney natives, descended from the American Sioux, used to hunt and fish in the Kananaskis area. We call the tipi the "adventure." Trapper's Tents: An old trap line, inactive, ran through our property and up the Valley many years ago. It gave us the idea for our next tent structure - the trapper's tent. We call the trapper's tent the "comfort" - its covered front deck gives more space as well as shelter from the sun or rain. Both the tipis & the trapper's tents have wood floors, wood frame beds, vinyl covered mattresses, a small kerosene heater and lantern. Outside each one is a firepit and a picnic table. Sites are well-treed and most are very private. For those visitors who wish to experience exciting outdoor activities in the area - horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, fishing and whitewater rafting are all within a short drive away. As a small, privately owned and operated family campground close to many exciting outdoor activities, Sundance aims to provides a peaceful getaway or the base for an active adventure, only 45 minutes away from Banff or Calgary. ... more   less
