The rooms are dirty and rundown. The closet door was leaning against the wall. The furniture was stained. The hallway hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks. The casino staff was rude, actually the pit boss was horrible. He kicked me off a poker table after I was playing for 30 mins. He said there was a waiting list. The dealers or the rest of the casino staff had never heard of a waiting list. But the pit boss was friends with the fella on the so called waiting list. We went for New Year’s Eve and made the best of it but we will never ever go back.
Wort hotel I’ve ever been in, let’s start with the room the tv did not work the remote was glitching, we tried to order room service and called 4 TIMES and there was no awnser. We then went down to the restrunt and order 180 dollars of food I forget what we all ordered but I rember some the pizza was mushy and gross the dough was almost raw ( we ordered 3 pizzas ) the only good thing was perogies ( we ordered a lot more food) the pool had bugs not just bugs but Alot of bugs evrewhere bugs on the chairs even, one good thing is the front desk staff was kind and good
Unfortunately right from the get go we had issues. My credit card for some reason didn’t work at their front desk and I had just used it. The room could use an update, drawers wouldn’t stay closed on the cabinets, TV remote worked then didn’t work. Loud the entire night , kids running around, doors open and closing etc.. we were disappointed as we have stayed before and had a nice comfortable room, and enjoyed the casino and surroundings.
Staff were great! The hotel itself, though, for the price ($191/night, double occupancy) was disappointing. Found a huge bug in one bed (they did offer us another room, but if there’s bugs in one, there’s just as likely bugs in another). In-room phone didn’t work to even call front desk, no microwave in most rooms, WiFi was terrible, and we weren’t given the password at check-in (found it on the back of the door after 24 hours) toilet ran & didn’t flush properly, plumbing from above floor was super noisy, found old, dried food (berries?) under nightstand and bed skirts, no “Do Not Disturb” signs to place on doors. I get that there’s a staffing shortage, but for the price, expected at the very least, working amenities.
I would have given it 1 out of 5. But the nice and friendly staff bumped it up my rating. From the onset, the hotel does not show well. The shrubby at the entrance is over grown and has garbage in it. You walk in an entrance of smokers and cannabis smell, disgusting! Yes, the hotel (mostly the lobby area) has an overwhelmingly smell of smoke, the hotel needs a better ventilation system! As mentioned by other guests, the hotel is aged with old carpet and our room had disgusting stains on the couch which we could not sit on. The bed was ok but new pillows are needed. They felt like hard rocks! A bonus, the AC unit worked well and the room seemed “cleaned”. But the strained couch, the aged carpet, the worn cabinetry and the undusted room, just did not sit well with me. The restaurant menu seemed limited as well. I thought they can offer more variety and more higher quality items. Considering you are paying $300 a night, you need to offer better quality items on the menu. I was going to write the manager but as other reviewers mentioned, the hotel manager doesn’t care! Obviously, this review will not be seen by them and they don’t any pride in their maintenance and appearance of their business. Stoney Nakota needs to take business notes from another First Nation hotel called Quaaout Lodge. That hotel is top notch and takes incredible pride on appearance and customer service. Maybe, just maybe, the poor reviews will make a difference.…
Our room was a bit dated but okay and quite spacious. Had a coffee maker but no fridge. The water slide and hot tub were great for the kids and not at all crowded. Evening family meal in the restaurant had good variety and was very tasty. Arriving a bit later in the morning for breakfast, the buffet did not have a lot left, so we went to the nearby Tim Horton's. There is ample parking space for larger vehicles. It's not the fanciest of hotels but it's very convenient to Kananaskis and we were given a good room rate hence the four star rating. We didn't go into the Casino so cannot comment on that.
This hotel is poorly maintained and very dirty. The smell of smoke from cigarettes is everywhere, because smoking is allowed in the casino. The front lobby reaks of smoke. The grounds around the front door and parking lot are covered with litter and cigarette butts, although receptacles are provided. The tiles in the front entry of our room needed to be washed because we thought something had been spilt on it. We turned two clothes black with filth from the floor. I actually took them down to the front desk to show them.
Restaurant was very hood. Had dinner -elk burger was yummy. The decor is clean comfortable with several paintings by local artist Dion Wesley. The staff are friendly. They allow RV overnight parking in the parking lot you just need to checkin with the front desk. Will come back !
We stayed one night at the Stoney Nakoda Resort.. Having been a guest many times in the past, I had expected much more than what we were greeted with this time around. The checkin clerk was brusque, and seemed in a great hurry to be done with us. No offer to acquaint us with amenities, no direction to our room, and spoke our room number out loud in front of others. There was no mention of when or where meals were available, no mention of the casino, let alone any offer of free play as was the custom in many of my previous stays. The entire hotel, from the carpet in the entrance way, to the elevator to the fourth floor, to the carpet in the corridor, was filthy. Carpets were torn and bedraggled, there was dirt and dust on the elevator, and someone had spit chewing tobacco on the wall of the elevator. Our room smelled of cigarette smoke. The area around the front entrance had not been swept and was littered with butts and trash. There was no bath mat in our room, no water bottles, no coffee, creamer or sugar for the coffee machine. The refrigerator had been shut off, and the AC was not putting out cold air. We encountered one singular, great employee, the waiter in the casino who was on his very first shift. He was polite and friendly, and we hope that he doesn’t fall into the same bad habits as his fellow employees. My wife was frightened by a kitchen worker who, being impatient with a slow elevator, began banging on the call button while cursing. Asked if this behaviour would bring the elevator any sooner, he simply grunted and stared at her. At checkout, we were ignored by the front desk clerk who was in conversation with another hotel employee, until I made our presence known. No inquiry as to as our stay, no desire to interact with us at all. I would expected at least some semblance of curiosity as to how our stay was, how could the management make our next stay better, et cetera. Nothing. Here’s your receipt, no “have a good day”. Simply turn back to the co-worker and continue the conversation. For the exorbitant price we paid (nearly three hundred dollars for one night), we were sorely disappointed. The Stoney used to be a great alternative to the high prices in Canmore or Banff. At least the hotels in those places are cleaner and more receptive. The Stoney Nakoda is unfortunately turning into a dump, and we’ll not be staying there again. I wrote to the manager and received not one word of reply.…
Had the elk burger…was very very disappointing as came with a small piece of wilted lettuce and two tiny slices of tomato that were barely pink, as so unripe. The blueberry sauce and mayo were non existent. Absolutely NO condiments on the dry bun. That for $18 was robbery at its worse. My first and last visit to this place. (Wanted the beaver tail dessert, which they didn’t have.)
