This was our second visit to the inn and we again stayed in the south room. The large bay window offers spectacular views of Tomales Bay. It is very quiet, comfortable and convenient to restaurants and other points of interest in the area.

Bob and Lynette , innkeepers are gracious hosts
The outdoor area needs an update; the sign by road is tiny; almost missed it.

We didn't realize this was a B&B when we made reservations, but the rooms are actually outside the main living space, so there was lots of privacy. The view from the upper N room was charming - overlooking the bay with a nice-sized bay window to look out. The room was spacious and the bathroom over-sized, with a big shower. Bob delivered our continental breakfast right to our door. We had OJ, coffee, and some fresh, tasty sweet breads. As we were eating, two different deer wandered below us finding their own meal. Charming place without the noise of cell service, wifi, or tv. We came from Crescent City primarily down Hwy 1, so it was an exhausting trip due to the hairpin turns and mountains. The views made it worth it. We recommend stopping for food before you get there if it is later in the day. Once you're there, you won't want to leave!

We arrived on the property to find a note taped to the door of the house directing us to our room. We had trouble finding it, since we hadn't yet grasped that our room was on top of their garage--not what we'd envisioned. While we were looking, Bob, the innkeeper, drove past and barked at us that we were going in the wrong direction. Later we returned to the parking lot to find a woman getting out of her car, looking crossly over at us but not speaking; I assumed she was another guest and finally decided to introduce myself, only to discover she was the other innkeeper, Lynette! She couldn't have been less welcoming. Later we had several questions and requests but didn't feel comfortable contacting the couple, so we just kind of hunkered down in the room above the garage. Very nice view of the bay, but the indifferent--almost mean--reception made this the least inviting B&B ever.

Response from brett2011, Owner at Inn on Tomales Bay
Responded Apr 23, 2011
This review is not quite accurate. First, when these guest made their reservation for Monday, April 11th 2011, they never showed up. We are a very small B&B with just three guestrooms, so in the meantime we had to turn away potential guest. The guest phoned the next day never apologizing for not showing up the night before. She asked if she could reschedule for the following week April 18, 2011. I said "yes, no problem" and they re-booked. In 20 years in this business we have often left "room directions" notes at the front door - never a complaint. Because we are small B&B without any employees occasionally we have to run errands etc. (all rooms are private suites with outside private entrances) We returned from our errands just as they had arrived, both my wife and I commented that they seemed unhappy or angry. So we said hello, showed them the way. They never filled out their breakfast menu, so we assumed they were not breakfast eaters. The next morning they got in their car and left without a word. Their comment that their guestroom "was on top of the garage" is like saying your room at the Ritz Carlton in SF is over the underground parking garage. Bob Innkeeper

By B & B standards this is not a fancy place but it is very comfortable, clean and has a killer view of the Tomales Bay from your window. There are only three rooms and the breakfast is a basic continental one. We would definitely return again as it is very quiet, peaceful and oh, did I mention the great view of the Bay?

My wife and I flew in to San Francisco, rented a car and drive up the coast on Route 1; we stayed one night at the Inn on Tomales Bay, a nice stop about 3 hours after landing. We had one of two rooms built above a garage; and if there had been no fog, we should have been able to look across Tomales Bay. But as it were, all we could see was the far end of the parking lot...and two deer that happened to wander through. This inn was nicely done - nothing fancy, just a good basic room - immaculate, uncluttered, and well lighted - with WiFi, a nice selection of books and CDs. Bob, the inn keeper, brought a simple continental breakfast to the room the next morning. And we had a delightful dinner at Nick's Cove Restaurant, just 1/4 mile up the road. We will return whenever we come this way again!

We stayed at the Inn last weekend and had a wonderful time. It is a beautiful location with a priceless view! The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast (delivered to our room) was punctual - and plentiful if you order everything :) We went kayaking in the afternoon down the road which was also wonderful. We hope to come back someday!

A couple things to note: they have quiet hours starting at 10pm, just FYI. And the shower makes a horrendous sound, which has the effect of limiting shower times (a good thing, since water supplies are limited).

We came here for a three day break to sail our 14 foot dinghy on Tomales Bay. We are very pleased with this place. The north room is comfortable, clean, and cozy, with a quiet heater that doesn't make a sound. Very quiet and peaceful here. No TV thank God! View is fabulous. Could sit here all day. Inn keeper very nice, and didn't complain when we arrived very late and couldn't find the place. He came out to the main road to shine his flashlight for us, over and above the call of duty. Boat ramp still had water at 1.4 low tide. Very surprised and pleased at this accessibility. Probably only dries out at very low tides. Ideal for launching small craft. Breakfast of tea or coffee, oj and very tasty cakes. We will be saving ours for afternoon tea! Our only complaint is with Google Maps, that is slightly off and dumped us in a nearby field. Inn hard to find in pitch dark. Better to arrive in the daylight or during full moon! We will come here again. Little piece of tranquill heaven and welcome break after an exhausting week of work.

We love nothing more than a place to call home while we travel around and see the nearby sights! We hiked in the Redwood Forest, visited Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries, went to San Francisco and explored, and lastly spent a day on the beach at Tomales Bay. We were never more than one hour away from another adventure. This is my second stay at the Inn on Tomales Bay.

The rooms are immaculate and the view of Tomales Bay is beautiful from the room. Innkeeper Bob is great at giving advice and directions. Lynnette is always ready with a laugh and her smile. The town of Marshall is cute and NIck's has good food.

A lovely inn tucked away off the main road and so lovely and quiet. Nicely furnished room and breakfasts great - nothing too much trouble for the innkeepers, Bob and Lynnette. A great location for exploring Point Reyes and beyond. Loads of great walks and not too far from San Francisco either - the best of both worlds. Anyone who does not rate this place must be mad. Rooms are very clean and nicely furnished and guest towels white and fluffy putting most hotels to shame. Try this place and you won't be disappointed.

You don't have to answer me. I just booked a room and am very excited about staying at your place. My reason I am writing is an unpleasant sounding person wrote a negative review and I liked your answer. I clicked on the helpful area meaning I thought your reply was helpful.
