During a recent family reunion, we were on our own for breakfast and found the hotel. We enjoyed our breakfast outside. The food was good. The staff was accommodating and helped cousins join us so we could visit. A delightful place to enjoy a meal!

The rooms in this historic hotel are lovingly restored. As expected, rooms are smaller but comfortable, with large windows. Shared bathrooms/shower rooms have been very clean and never crowded (although one historic room has it's own bathroom). We truly love this place. As a spectral skeptic, I thought the ghost stories were just historic hype, but on our stay last...

After watching Hotel Hell with Gordon Ramsey we were hoping for the best. Our group had lunch on the patio and it was a lovely setting. The staff was really attentive but it took a while for the food to come out. The food was good quality at a reasonable price. We looked through the hotel and bar and sadly,...

Stopped in for lunch, a beer and to watch the soccer finals. The bartender was great, food was good. We were glad that we had the game to watch because the food took a little too long to arrive at our table.

The Hotel bar is cozy and Old West in flavor. With quite a selection of beers and a large selection of hard Liquors. Of course if you want one just walk up and down Main Street which is littered with wine tasting establishments.

This hotel was average at best. The rooms were not in the historic portion, but in an addition. The room was facing a large grassy area, which had been rented out for a wedding. Needles to say, the crowd became a bunch of drunken fools, fighting and screaming. The staff was rude and unprofessional from the first encounter. The only...

If I told you that one of the best Ramos Fizzes I have ever had was in the mining town of Murphy's Calif. You'd probably question my sanity. Well question it. Ate lunch there on the patio two days in a row, Memorial Day weekend. Lunch both times was perfect. My wife's Reuben on day 1, was as good as...

We have visited Murphys every year for about the last 10, and have stayed all over town. We keep coming back to the Murphys Hotel for two reasons- you can't beat the price and the proximity to everything in town. The old building is charming and historic, but the lack of ensuite bathrooms and AC means we now stay in...

This review is for the Restaurant on the property. We had a group of about 30 people and we were celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. The staff did an awesome job. Our waitress split up the tickets for individual couples, where most places would say NO for a group this large. The service was excellent, the food was warm and delicious...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Murphys Historic Hotel is the longest continually operated hotel in California. The Hotel was built in 1856 and we try to keep our nine historic rooms as close to that time period as possible. If you are to stay within the Historic Hotel you are without T.V., Phone, A/C, and of course a bathroom... but how often do you get to share a shower down the hall? You may bump into a ghost while enjoying a little piece of history. We also have twenty modern hotel rooms that have been improved more recently with new T.V.'s, Beds, A/C's, and Windows. We do have plans to remodel all bathrooms but Rome wasn't built in a day. We also have a full service restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner 365 days a year along with a full service saloon. The Murphys Historic Hotel is also within walking distance to over 20 different wine tasting rooms and our community park. While you are here please let me know how we are doing. We hope to see you soon!Sincerely, Brian ... more   less
