Both the patio and dining room were picture-perfect old-time style....and one would not be surprised to see handlebar mustaches and bustles here. The lobby bordered on the "rickety", but comforting food and accomplished servers made dinner a winner. Our dinners included a fabulous lamb shank with polenta, however my filet was dry,my baked potato underdone. As we arrived early for...

We dined here years ago and were anxious to return. Never again! Our waiter was pleasant but not well trained, did not seem familiar with the menu or the wine list, made two mistakes on our order, and failed to inquire why I did not eat more than a few mouthfuls of the beef stroganoff. Had he asked, I would...

There was a Lot of hoopla about how great the rooms and food. For the room, take a cold shower, lay naked on to of the bedand don't turn on the AC. The AC is so noisy that it is impossible to sleep through it. For the food, one dinner was OK, the other, Lamb Shank at $22, was the...

AWFUL! My family/friends had probably one of the worst dining experiences in this restaurant! We have dined here in the past, and no complaints. Maybe I could contribute that to the manager that was on staff at the time. We were a table of 7 going to have dinner before a concert. Everything started out fine. We were seated and...

The bar was exactly what you would expect for an old town bar experience. Unfortunately, the bartender was horrible!! He failed to acknowledge our party of four when we entered and once he did take our drink order we waited for over twenty minutes before we left. To make matters worse, when I expressed our dissapointment regarding the service he...

We enjoyed the town of Murphys and all the wine tasting rooms and shopping. The town does roll up at night, so plan ahead for food, etc. The hotel is tired but could once again be a beautiful place with some work. The restaurant was good as was the service. The outdoor patio dining area is great. The rooms are...

Unless you like to party until 2:00am or are part of a wedding party, the combination of loud people, bikes, and music will keep you up late. I asked the person at the hotel desk if it was normal for late night partying, she said yes, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Apparently, when Ironstone Winery shuts down, people come...

Hi, My best advise is not even to bother with this hotel. We were put in a room right above the saloon (which I might add remained open until 2:00 am), we were never advised that it was shared facilities, no tv (not that you would have been able to hear it above the noise from the saloon). There are...

Two rooms in the "new" section we rented were well appointed and comfortable except there were no refrigerators, microwaves, or coffee pots in our rooms.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Murphys Historic Hotel is the longest continually operated hotel in California. The Hotel was built in 1856 and we try to keep our nine historic rooms as close to that time period as possible. If you are to stay within the Historic Hotel you are without T.V., Phone, A/C, and of course a bathroom... but how often do you get to share a shower down the hall? You may bump into a ghost while enjoying a little piece of history. We also have twenty modern hotel rooms that have been improved more recently with new T.V.'s, Beds, A/C's, and Windows. We do have plans to remodel all bathrooms but Rome wasn't built in a day. We also have a full service restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner 365 days a year along with a full service saloon. The Murphys Historic Hotel is also within walking distance to over 20 different wine tasting rooms and our community park. While you are here please let me know how we are doing. We hope to see you soon!Sincerely, Brian ... more   less
