Nestled in a prime location near wineries, Carneros Resort and Spa is often lauded for its enchanting setting and convenient shuttle service. While the spacious rooms with private amenities are a hit among guests, some suggest that updates are needed and have experienced service inconsistencies. The resort's atmosphere and amenities, such as private patios and fire pits, generally receive positive remarks, although occasional maintenance woes are noted. Despite the charms, a number of travelers question the value, pointing to the high costs not always matching the level of service and amenities. Cleanliness is typically well-regarded, though isolated incidents, including an ant problem, have been reported.

I had to do some business in Napa and decided to stay at Carneros for the first time. this is one of if not the best resort and spa I’ve ever stayed . I didn’t have to go out for restaurants. they had extended hours for room service and meals. there’s several restaurants at the facility for breakfast lunch or dinner. There’s a small market to pick up bottles of wine, food to go bling and other memorabilia.

My room had an indoor outdoor shower incredible privacy. I could leave the patio door open all night there was a fence so nobody could peek in. The TV remote actually worked I could find all the channels

The room had an outdoor fireplace and an indoor fireplace.

Especially helpful because it is a large resort - They had a golf cart to transport me from my room to dinner up to the hilltop restaurant and infinity pool.

Every single staff person I met was pleasant they all seem to know my name in light of the pandemic I was one of the few people staying there it was incredibly quiet it was the best introduction to my first visit at the resort I could ever imagine

On a whim I asked and they were able to fulfill my request. I gave them a generous dollar amount to work with and ask them to pick and choose a selection of food from their menu appetizer entrée and dessert and wine and surprise me and I wouldn’t have to select through the menu they pick the most astonishing meal I’ve had the dessert was chocolate cake with gold leaf was incredible. The next time I go to Napa I will certainly be staying at Carneros I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else

We stayed in Fig a two master bedroom suite, it was our first time venturing out since Covid19. The backyard area had clearly not been used in awhile and had spiderwebs and in general needed to be cleaned. The hottub was covered with leaves making it difficult to use. The kitchen was well appointed, the appliances modern and all worked. The living area was dated though and disappointing. Old phones that only worked on speaker. Housekeeping needs to be requested and we were not told that upon checkin. There is also a light by the door that if it happens to be on red, housekeeping won’t enter. The first day we didn’t ask so when we got back it was a mess, we called and they say no problem for the next day (they could not come that evening) but didn’t explain the light, so again no housekeeping on the 2nd day. The pilot light heating our water went out three times in our five day stay and we had to call someone. On the bright side we very much enjoyed the Barn for brunch where they will hold a table for you and the Farm for dinner. It’s delightful being able to sit outside. The market is also a wonderful feature. I was upset when I checked out that no one asked me how our stay was and that there was never any follow up on the many issues we had with our room situation. One last note - we were also given a handicap room which meant one of our two bedrooms did not have a tub which was very disappointing. The staff is lovely even if they don’t necessarily understand follow up on customer service and how to make people happy when there is a problem. I did get an apology on the way out because I complained about not getting one.

We stayed at this hotel five or six times now. We traveled this year to Dubai, Maui, Scottsdale, Seattle, Santa Barbara and a couple others. Staying in hotels like the Rosewood, the Fairmont, the Ritz Carlton, etc.

There’s no place quite like Carneros resort and spa. The people set the tone as you drive up and arrive to the resort. The management takes personal interest in the minute details of your stay whether that be relaxing by one of their amazing pools or arranging for excellent wine tours at different vineyards based on your palate.

Last year I had 20 of my friends and their spouses fly down and celebrated my 40th at this hotel. Still to this day my favorite vacation I’ve ever had. Remarkably, it was during a intense fire and the ash was so thick it was almost unhealthy to be outside. But in the midst of challenge the team rose to the occasion and found a way to make my event extremely special both inside and outside when applicable. I’m not sure I can thank them enough.

The hotel itself is quite serene. Our favorite places to relax would be to sit up at the adult pool and just look out over the vineyards after a wonderful breakfast at the hilltop restaurant. The green eggs and ham at the other breakfast location is a must every time we go.

Whether you’re staying in a small cottage or a couple bedroom home you feel warm and welcome. Our favorite room is suite number four and five right by the pool. The outdoor shower has a little window that allows you to look out over the vineyards through your corrugated steel private courtyard.

My wife and I enjoy getting up and walking the grounds in the morning as the morning fog lifts gently over the fields too.

I don’t often write reviews but I felt it was important to do so on this one. There is something so special about this hotel and the people that work there I just quite can’t put my finger on it but I will say it’s an absolute must if you’re considering it at all. It truly is my favorite place on earth.

Property is very beautiful, but the service was extremely poor. I suspect that they reopened before bringing back enough staff to run things because my experience mirrors another who posted this week.

I stayed here mid-week for my 40th birthday and was very disappointed in the cleanliness and maintenance of our Harvest Cottage. Upon entering we realized that it had no soap, no trashcan, hair lying at the bottom of the indoor bathtub, and we had issues getting the outdoor tub to function. A room with obvious cleaning/maintenance deficiencies is troubling anytime you pay four figures for a "luxurious" stay, but especially concerning during a pandemic.

To make matters worse, the staff seemed wholly uninterested in fixing any issues. The entire stay we were unable to dial the front desk directly from our room phone because they had it set to a busy signal, and the maintenance line was set to voicemail. Josh at the front told me he was sure the hair in the indoor tub must have been from a cleaning person because their cleaning people are very thorough. He said he would send over a maintenance person for the outdoor tub issues and some wine for the trouble, which I did think was a nice gesture. He asked which kind I liked and I told him red; I then got to work cleaning out the two tubs myself with Lysol wipes which I had brought to disinfect doorknobs/light switches.

We spent several hours waiting on the maintenance person who never arrived during our entire stay. My husband and I each called the front desk multiple times to check if someone would still be coming - I really wanted to be able to utilize that feature since it was an extra expense. Each time we were told someone would come.

Even the apology wine wasn't sent over. During one of my calls to check on the status of the maintenance person, I awkwardly asked Josh about the wine he had mentioned several hours earlier and he defensively told me he didn't actually send it because he was waiting on me to call him back to tell him what kind I wanted.

Our overnight stay at the cottage was by no means a resort experience and I was quite disappointed with our visit, especially at this price point. And although not a big deal, I think it's worth mentioning for overall hospitality deficiencies that I know the travel agent who booked our stay had mentioned it was my 40th. In my experience, most high-end hotels would have left a handwritten note or other acknowledgment of a milestone celebration in the room and there was nothing of the sort.

The service at the Boon Fly Cafe and Hilltop Cafes was great, and we had good experiences there. If you want to check this place out, save your money and just grab some food.

We stayed one night on January 1. The good: nice Carneros location, expansive grounds, 2 pools suitable for swimming, great fitness room, very nice room with large bathroom, excellent bed, linens and toiletries, very good breakfast at Hillside (about two thirds covered with $40 credit), pretty good dinner at Boon Fly (not included). The not so good: variety of small to medium service and maintenance issues. On check in, we were told someone would accompany us to our room; we waited outside the reception area for more than 5 minutes, only to have to go back and find out that no one had been called. We were left XXXL robes (we're average size people) and no slippers or thongs in our room. The handle fell off our French door. I'm not sure if our thermostat was broken or just difficult to operate, but it required maintenance coming to modify it (and they still didn't get it to the requested temperature). The Hillside pool area looked like the day after Woodstock when I went in for a 9 am swim the next morning, with towels and drinks strewn about the space (maintenance came about half an hour later) and bottom of the pool was covered with dirt (the pool is literally set among vineyards, so I'm sure keeping it clean is a challenge). We were served the wrong entree at breakfast, told we could keep it, then after we started eating while awaiting the item we had chosen, our waitress was about remove it (she eventually told us to keep it). Most important to me as a fan of high end wine, I expected a similar experience to what I'd had at Calistoga Ranch a couple of years prior, when the concierge called up several high end wineries and arranged complimentary, off the menu tastings, saving us many hundred dollars, to the extent we could have even availed ourselves of what was offered. Here, there were just garden variety 2 for 1 tasting coupons (no help to me since my wife doesn't drink), similar to what one could get at a 2 star motor lodge. Super disappointing. These criticisms wouldn't amount to much at a 2-3 star inn for which we were paying $150-200, but when paying about $450 with taxes and fees, even after a travelzoo discount, they seemed like important considerations. Probably would not stay again at this price point.

I am a long time Carneros guest and have stayed at this property on visits to Napa since 2006. This is the first time I have been so disappointed with a visit. If this was because of the reopening then I’d say Carneros was not prepared and should have taken more steps to ensure proper cleanliness before reopening. Especially during these pandemic periods for its guests. Our stay was two nights in a suite consisting of two connecting cottages with our family of two small kids. Upon arrival the entry and patio areas were full of cobwebs that we had to dodge. This also was consistent in the patio area and open air shower. We had to open windows due to the stuffy musty smell in the rooms. We came prepared with disinfectant to wipe down the space prior to our children entering but these observances made us spend additional time in this process. Not something you should have to do for a property asking $1000 per night. It has been 2 years since my last visit and I did notice the wear and deterioration of our cottage with some dry rot around the window sills and back patio gates. The cleanliness and attention to details were drastically lacking during this visit. On our second evening the fire alarm inside one of our rooms went off in the middle of the night scaring our kids. We called the front desk and they sent over a maintenance person to our room after 25 minutes of loud beeping only to find the maintenance person had a step ladder to reach a fire alarm at the top of a 12ft-15ft high ceiling. I didn’t want her to leave for an additional period to get a taller ladder so I assisted her with a skillful maneuver to remove the fire alarm from the wall. Not what I wanted to be doing nor should be doing at 12am in the morning at a self proclaimed 5-star property. Probably not something foreseeable unless they have regular system checks(which they should) but it was icing on the miserable cake. My main issue on that evening was the fact that no one called to apologize or even follow up. I went to the front desk to check out the next morning and had to mention it to the staff before getting any acknowledgement of our issues. Immediately she knew about the event and presented an excuse. She extended a reduction of $100 from the bill. For me this was an attempt at accepting some responsibility but a poor one.
I have enjoyed this property over the years and have recommended it to clients and friends but have hesitation of recommendations after this visit. A guest should never feel duped or bamboozled after spending those nightly rates for a stay.

Let me start off by saying that the Carneros has long been on my bucket list of luxury resorts in Napa. Perhaps because I had waited so long, my expectations were unreasonably high. My husband and I stayed in September 2020, during the COVID pandemic when outdoor dining was allowed. Our room was pleasant and comfortable, but surprisingly small. Maybe they count the large outdoor patio in the square footage.

What was most disappointing and surprising was the incredible lack of service. We spent most of our time at the Hilltop adult pool. On both mornings during our stay, when we arrived in the morning there were no clean pool towels to be found and zero staff to assist. On the second morning, we decided to have breakfast at the Hilltop restaurant and found one lone server trying to seat people, take orders and serve. We ended up seating ourselves and waiting 20 minutes to be acknowledged. When poolside staff did finally arrive, they merely took away the dirty towels that had been piled up from the night before and made no effort to bring clean towels to the guests who were already poolside. We ended up making friends with another couple and sharing tips on how to get served and when fresh towels were available. They also shared their dissatisfaction with the service they had experienced and were planning on checking out a day earlier than planned.

This is really ridiculous considering the price point and how many other luxury hotels are competing in this space. We had also stayed at the Solage earlier in the summer and in comparison, our stay at the Solage was much more enjoyable. Staff there was attentive and readily available. We will not be returning to Carneros anytime soon.

We booked a much needed escape weekend at Carneros, really looking forward to the top notch service that we’ve always experienced at the resort. Unfortunately, that is not what we experienced. The hotel’s restaurants were overbooked to the point that as hotel guests, we had to escalate to the manager of the Farm to even get a late night table on a Sunday. The first night there were no options so we were left with room service. It took about 15 minutes to get through to them and when the order arrived it was missing items. Paying 1k a night for a hotel room if you stay here, don’t expect the service you used to receive. I recommend elsewhere and we won’t be staying here again. The view was nice from the pool though. And the rooms are still clean.

Came here to stay for 3 nights with my family. Before booking, confirmed all the Covid rules in common areas, particularly the pool. On arrival, there is really no enforcement of these rules. No one was wearing a mask outside the pool. In the hot tub that was supposed to have a max of 4, had 10 people. Kids were not supervised by parents as required. As a result, they put soap in it twice and made it a personal bath tub almost. We let them know multiple times and although the manager came to check, there continued to be NO enforcement at all. A big part staying there was downright rude as they didn’t want to have their kids follow the 4 people rule, only then did the manager come out and speak with them. In a 3-night stay, this happened each of the days. Total waste of money for what they charge if you want to use the outdoor space.

We had been anticipating this escape from San Francisco for many weeks while sheltering in place. The property was beautiful, scenic, and well tended. Our two- bedroom residence was perfectly clean. Resort staff observed social distancing, and for the most part, so did the guests. Yet we enjoyed the resort ambiance in the public areas, many of which were outdoors based. We were able to have food delivered to our suite/residence without difficulty after checking menus online and then calling in room dining. Front desk staff were harder to reach by phone— they often seemed busy but were courteous in person. It was an expensive getaway, but worth it.
