The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach garners appreciation for its prime location and array of amenities, including multiple pools and on-site dining options, which are a hit among families. However, some visitors express disappointment with the additional fees that seem to overshadow the hotel's value, and they suggest that both rooms and common areas would benefit from modernization and better soundproofing. While the staff's friendliness is often highlighted, issues such as parking challenges and a slow response have been noted. Despite these drawbacks, many guests find the rooms clean and the overall atmosphere of the hotel inviting.

Praise for its strategic location, perfect for both leisure and business pursuits. Guests have called out the hotel's modern ambiance and sizeable, comfortable rooms, while the professional staff and convenient amenities like complimentary shuttles enhance the experience.

However, opinions on room cleanliness and maintenance vary, and high parking fees have dampened the perceived value for some. The hotel's fitness center and pool are popular facilities that contribute to a pleasant stay.

Outstanding stay at the Hyatt Newport Beach! The following team members made my stay truly relaxing and highly productive:
Katrina front desk

Tristan supervisor

Myrna bar keep

Charisma front desk

Tristan, the hotel manager was outstanding! I was impressed by the beautiful hotel so close to the Back Bay and the Back Bay Golf Course right outside my bedroom! My room was clean, with refrigerator, coffee maker Modern shower stall with rain shower fittings. Housekeeping was done as I scheduled so I was never disturbed, bill was accurate, room reservation and rate honored to my complete satisfaction. Continuously stocked Cupboard was very convenient. Perfect sleep achieved throughout stay; great mattress, heavenly sheets, cool soft pillows, quite air-conditioning. Fitness center was clean and all equipment working. Outstanding breakfast at the Shor American Seafood Grill with heart-healthy egg white vegetable omelets, non-dairy milk alternatives like almond milk and soy milk. Bar area was continuously wiped cleaned and all spills immediately mopped. Kitchen staff were highly attentive and followed CDC guidelines for safety and cleanliness.

Again, thank you for your outstanding setvices!

We recently finished a one night stay using a FNA. I called the morning of to see what time I could check in and Beverly (I later find out she is the room controller, she is awesome! Thank you for taking care of me.) on the phone let me know that we were upgraded as a one time courtesy to a 3-Bedroom Villa!! Room was not ready but she expedited cleaning so I was happy about that. Room was ready around 2PM. There was a huge wedding going on so I am sure they needed my king but I am not complaining! What was only going to be a quick staycation for 2 adults and 2 children, I was able to extend the invite to my parents and brother. The Villa had it own private pool which was such a huge bonus because having the ability to jump in and out of the pool without walking far from your room was awesome. My son was able to swim multiple times during our stay and take breaks versus us just hanging out by the pool the whole day. The bedrooms were very comfortable each having a king bed, the master was huge but the bathrooms are a little dated but they got the job done. Black out curtains help at night and because we are at the far end of the hotel its pretty quiet.
Staying with a FNA, Valet parking was included and so was the resort fees. As a Globalist, breakfast was at the SHOR and it included 1 entrée and a non alcoholic drink for up to 4 adults. They must take really good care of their globalist because we were ready to pay for an extra entrée and drink but they took care of the whole bill so that was a saving of around $250!
All in all it is a dated hotel like others have said but staying using a FNA this was a nice staycation and we needed it because there was a heatwave here in OC.

We stayed at this property for 1 night as a family of 4. The front desk staff was friendly and so were all the housekeepers who were walking around - they all greeted and smiled. The property common grounds are manicured and very family friendly. Kids had a great time with the large lawn games (chess and shuffleboard). The lobby and lounge areas were very pretty and comfortable to hang out in while waiting for our room to be ready.

However the room was very poorly maintained and a definite disappointment. We were in the Balboa building, with 2 double beds. Dirty old carpeting - one of the beds was about 6 inches from the wall, making it much too narrow to fit a vacuum which would explain why there were crumbs there. So gross. The rest of the furniture was fine but also old. The beds were fine linens were nothing special but looked clean. The bathroom was a big let-down. Mold around the toilet, around the shower walls, peeling wall paper, rusty door hinges, old filthy door. Towels were ok but they didn’t match - some where fluffy and new some were old and thin, not very soft. Also one had gross hair on it. These all seem to have such easy fixes to clean up the appearance I’m surprised Hyatt isn’t better at maintaining their rooms. Overall just not what you’d expect at a Hyatt property in a high end beach town.

If you are going for an event it’s fine, property is in a great location near several points of interest. But I wouldn’t recommend it otherwise unless there are renovated rooms

Beware of the advertised price. This location will add, after the fact, a mandatory $40 + tax a day resort fee, plus a mandatory $40 + tax a day self parking fee or a mandatory $50 + tax a day valet fee (plus tips); plus extra fees and taxes for either early check-in or early check-out. So, expect another $90 to $150 a day to be added to the price you are seeing advertised.

In addition - this resort, the building and rooms are all very old and dated. My wife and I are both in our mid-sixties and the lady at the registration desk intentionally gave us a room in the building farthest from the self parking lot, on the second floor where there are no elevators (ie-lugging bags up stairs), in a room that had not been opened in ages - on opening the door we were hit with a hot warm blast of rancid air.

Now you might think that we are miserable people who got what they deserved (this complaining review), but we travel often and are polite to everyone we deal with, including the young lady that assigned us to that room. And no, we shouldn't have to run around back and forth to registration asking for different rooms. She knew exactly the situation she was putting us in.

In addition, watch your credit card for extra charges. I had pre-paid our room for three nights. We just got home and now there are five additional charges totaling over $900 from this resort that are pending on my credit card, that I will have to waste time calling them about. One of the worst hotels and travel experiences ever.

Thank you for your candid review. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like yours that is invaluable to our team. Rest assured, our front desk colleagues would never intentionally give you a room that was further away. Our rooms are block in advance, based on when the reservation comes in. With hindsight, our agent should have offered a golf cart or bellman assistance, and I apologize for that oversight. Please contact our accounting office if there are discrepancies with your folio. I am sincerely sorry that your stay was less than satisfactory and do hope you will give us another try as we have become a local favorite in Orange County. I do ask that your contact Ryan.alex@hyatt.com before your next stay, so that we can be sure you are in a more suitable guestroom. Sincerely, Cathy S.

The entire facility is tired, and not worth the regular rates. However, the staff members are outstanding. Except for one single person: the front desk manager at the time we checked out.
We were there 3 nights for a wedding. After the first night, both of us had itchy bites, which we assumed were from mosquitoes the prior night. Next night, more bites. Then on the morning we were checking out, my wife saw a flea (yes, we once had a dog, so we know fleas.
AFTER checking out (IOW, I wasn’t looking for a rate reduction) I spoke with the manager, and told him story as written. All he said was “Interesting. Where did she find this flea?” I told him “on the bathroom tiles.” Then again, his reply was “Interesting. In the BATHROOM.” In a tone implying that fleas are never found in bathrooms. Ummm …. though hard to see in carpeting, when they jump OFF clothing in the bathroom, they are easy to see on tile.
He then informed me that they are a dog-friendly hotel, and that guests pay $150 for a deep cleaning (implying it was therefore impossible for my wife to find a flea). I told him that clearly, the cleaning adequate, and that they should resolve the problem our room prior to the next guests.
No word of apology. No word of thanks that I pointed it out to him. His behavior is not suiting a Hyatt Regency. The rest of the outstanding staff would be ashamed of him.

Absolutely fabulous property! From the minute we checked in, the staff out performed our wildest expectations of meticulous professionalism tempered with a friendly and welcoming spirit. The valet service was over-the-top fantastic. Our room was immaculate if slightly dated. However, the resort is so beautiful. The room is the least of your concern. There are so many pools, beautiful paths to walk on, gate to Back Bay for hiking, close to all restaurants nearby in Corona Del Mar and Newport Beach. The Shor restaurant for breakfast was over the top. Our servers, Felix and Angel were incredibly good. Between the service and the food we felt like we were in a Michelin star restaurant! Housekeeping was prompt when a request was made, and our room was perfect each day after housekeeping had cleaned.

I can’t say enough about this beautiful property. The beds are comfortable. In the bathroom is adequate if not luxurious. All in all I can’t wait to get back to this beautiful location and incredible staff!

from the moment I was greeted at the car when I arrived, each contact with personnel was friendly yet professional, efficient. The bell boys were the best I have ever encountered. great people skills in communicating, i.e., smiiles, good eye contact, etc. The front desk were personable addressing me by name & a smile. Housekeeping not only left an exceptionally clean room but when checking each morning to tidy up they insured to check if there was anything elseneeded.

Nice resort, a little iffy here and there.
Generally, a good placed. I would suggest as family friendly.

What is nice?
Rooms were spacious, 3 fun pools, large attractive grounds, fun family friendly activates and games.

What is iffy?
The $40 parking includes a hike. I was hiking up the little hill one evening and a facilities cart with 2 rows of seating passed by me, how nice would it have been if they had stopped and offered a ride up to the lobby?

$15 drinks should be tasty and should seem a quality product. Not sure why the pool bars was closed, but that caused some confusion with ordering and resulted in a long delay.

Food options limited. The menu of the "Casual" dining option was the "Formal" dining option's lunch menu. And there are no places to eat within walking distance.

A power washing of some of the public walkways would go a long way. A little bit of that kind of maintenance stuff.

Overall
A decent place to relax, plenty of room to bump around. Seemed like a great place if you have kids.

If you're going to be there for a few days and spending significant time at the hotel, sort out yourself a little self-sufficiency. You might want to bring in some beverages, snacks, fruit... The rooms have little fringes.

First the good: this is a great location and relative to many other hotels in the area it was a more palatable price. The lobby area was having some renovations but the restaurant and common areas were still available and well kept. The coffee shop had fantastic breakfast burritos that were ready to go and served with generous bit of salsa. I had a burger for lunch as well and it was delicious. The double batter style fries are my favorite. We requested adjoining rooms for extra space while traveling with our young children (6 and 3). The hotel was able to grant that request which was much appreciated. Our rooms were clean and simple. I wouldn't call them dated at all but I also wouldn't call them bright and cheery. There was a large work space which i needed for my work computer setup. The wifi was strong during our whole stay.

The bad: Its still chilly in March there and I called 2x to make sure the pool would be heated but it was not. My kids still got in it but we had to alternate btwn the hot tub and pool to keep their lips from turning blue. While our rooms were perfectly fine, our friend stayed in a different area of the hotel and his room was more akin to a motel 6 than a Hyatt. His room was just a disappointment plain and simple. The landscaping was very well done across the property but the biggest glaring thing for me was that the outside of the buildings did not look in great shape, at least for the price point of a room there. The section where our room was (Balboa i think) had paint peeling in many places and you could see decades of paint layers beneath.

Would we stay here again? Probably, because we loved the location but I would still shop around for alternatives.
