This is a hostel-like lodge run by the Sierra Club. Very basic, shared rooms, or small "cubicles" for singles or couples, are available. Bathrooms are shared. Dinner and breakfast are in a rustically decorated dining room with long wooden tables with benches for seating; food is served family style, with serving bowls and platters passed around each table. Guests each...

First time here with the Sierra Club Wilderness Outdoor Weekend and it was a BLAST! This is def dorm/simple style living but the point is to go hang out in the common areas which are great! And love that food is all inclusive. (BYOB too!) The common areas have a beautiful fireplace and piano, and an outdoor fire pit, and...

My husband and I are hiking the PCT and because of snow issues we had to change our reservations 3 times! They were so accommodating! We were greeted by a wonderful staff and they even offered us dinner but we had to decline because we had too much food. This place is for outdoor enthusiasts. So much to do in...

It's been 5 years or so since we last stayed at Clair Tappaan and in that time it has lost some of its Hobbit like charm. The cubicles are small, but perfect for Hobbit sized folk like myself and my partner. Like others have stated, the staff were cordial enough, but not as welcoming as our previous stays. There was...

There is a hall with about 14 tiny rooms on both sides. The two bed room is the size of a closet, and you can't stand up. There is one plug and one light, and when you turn off the light, the plug loses power. The room is heated from the hall via a vent, and it is cold in...

The Clair Tappaan lodge was absolutely beautiful, had an old feel to it which I adored. The other guests were helpful and considerate. The staff, however, did not show me to the accommodations, the dining room, or even the main room or explain how things worked when I arrived. In fact, when I walked in, nobody was in the office...

Clair Tappaan Lodge is an historic lodge owned and operated by the Sierra Club. This place has been on my "bucket list" for years so when the opportunity to visit presented itself, I jumped at the chance. If you like basic but charming lodging that allows you to enjoy Norden/North Lake Tahoe, you'll like it. The lodge provides enough amenities...

Clair Tappaan is a unique property. It is owned by the Sierra Club and is a lodge with a hostel atmosphere. It reminded me of the cabines we stayed at while hiking in the Alps. There are a variety of room styles from dorms to rooms with 5 bunk beds to cubicles that are basically two beds in a cube. The...

This place provides rustic 'hostel like' accommodations… complete with amazing meals. I stayed in a cubical -- a very small room with a bunk bed and a few hooks on the wall. Extremely small, but exactly what I expected. The family style rooms offer 5 beds and there is also a 'dorm.' The bathrooms were clean and the water was...

This is the second year I have brought groups to stay at claire tappaan and not disappointed. It is a rustic lodge, rooms with very basic furniture, bathrooms shared. Furniture in common rooms is worn and a little shabby but the lodge is clean and the meals are terrific with ample portions! Claire tappaan, being a Sierra Club lodge attracts...

“Do not choose cubicle #16 unless you like a lot of heat and noise.”

“The cubbies are small, but if you really only sleep there, you'll be okay. If you're in a dorm, bring earplugs. The walls are quite thin. I'd recommend a famiy room if you're clausterphobic.”
