We rented the Creekside Cottage and had a really nice time getting out of the house practically for the first time since quarantine started. Staff was very friendly at check-in and check-out. The cottage smelled and looked freshly cleaned, and we felt very comfortable with their safety protocols during our stay. Didn't hear any highway noises during the night, though we did get woken up by a raccoon having a snack on the deck. Also saw a buck eating breakfast outside the kitchen in the morning!

The interior was super cozy, with a few fold-out couches, tv, and a dining nook. I wish we could have gone with a few more folks to take advantage of the enclosed outside area which had string lights and several nice places to sit, maybe next year. Bedroom was compact, but there was enough room to walk around to both sides of the bed. One of the bedside lamps had a flicker, but there was enough light provided by the other sources where it wasn't much of an issue for us. Had a bit of trouble understanding how to use the thermostat, but that was probably user error and the house got comfortably warm in the end.

We had dinner at the restaurant around six, which is the right time to get there as a queue formed shortly afterwards. Dining was allowed indoors, as well as outside with heaters provided, but the tables were spaced well over 6 feet apart and all servers wore quality masks. The food and service was excellent, and if you like oysters you really have to get the ones they have here. They aren't doing breakfast at the moment, though the market sells good morning foods, along with wines and snacks, and there is free coffee and tea supplied both in the parlor, and back in the cottage. No utensils are currently provided in the room for safety reasons, but we grabbed some plastic ones from the market and it was fine.

The ground are fairly spacious and had lots of little hideaways where one could spend time outside which again would be great for a group under different circumstances, but made for a nice walk to and from the cottage.

On 10/25/2020 our family of 11 celebrated 5 birthdays. We
traveled from Idaho, San Diego, Sacramento & S.F. The goal was to find a location that could accommodate everyone while safely socially distancing. The newly re-opened Olema House was perfect. The hotel offered traditional hotel rooms in the main building and 2 separate cottages on the other end of the property. My son’s family stayed in the main house with private yard, deck, full kitchen. This was spacious enough for 4 more guests. The white cottage where I stayed also spacious & private. Each room included a complimentary bottle of house red wine.
While exploring the gardens and private areas, we came across other guests relaxing on Adirondack chairs or walking their dogs(pet-friendly). We walked over to the Due West General store to pick a few noshes before dinner at the private arbor table. Leticia certainly kept on top of service considering the kitchen was 100 yards from our table. Fresh oysters, charcuterie boards, wine were perfect starters. Kids enjoyed bucatini marinara & grilled cheese.
Adults ordered, grilled salmon, steak chimichurri, mussels,& cheeseburgers. Breakfast options included freshly baked blackberry muffins, breakfast burritos. My only complaint was that the stay was too short.

My husband and I stayed at Olema House for our elopement weekend in Point Reyes. The stay was amazing on top of an already perfect weekend.

The Drake suite was just what we needed as a couples retreat. The hotel itself has updated modern features, but still feels homey and boutique, with its romantic country cottage vibes. Our room featured a 20 foot tall window view of the lush mountains and creek in the backyard grounds. The gas fireplace in the seating area and the upstairs loft bedroom give a feel of luxury and privacy you would find in a fancy Airbnb. Everything was very clean, and we appreciated the abundant bottles of hand sanitizer in our room as well as all common areas of the lobby and seating areas.

The staff were super friendly and accommodating for anything we needed.

Previous reviews mentioned the loud road, but although the hotel is very close to the road (making it very convenient to find!), I did not find it was very loud at all. The Due West Market and Restaurant are just steps away for morning coffee and pastries and a lovely evening dinner. And you could not ask for more peaceful grounds next to the creek to relax next to.

The one thing I would point out was that our room did get relatively warm in the afternoon as the sun pointed directly in the large window. The AC didn't seem to be working very strongly since it would stay warm for a while. The thermostat is also on the first story, so the loft did tend to warm up a bit more than the first story before it seemed to kick in. We ended up just opening the windows to let in the coastal breeze, which cooled off fine.

I would definitely recommend staying at Olema House if in the area and looking for a unique and memorable experience. We stayed at another hotel as we continued along the coast the rest of the weekend, and kept remarking how much we liked Olema House better, even though our second room was more expensive.

Had a great time at the new and improved Olema House for a family birthday party. They were able to accommodate my whole family using both of the cottages and 2 additional guest rooms. We stayed in a loft style suite which provided beautiful views to wake up to and the bed was beyond comfortable! The rooms are decorated perfectly and come equipped with everything you need to detach from the daily grind. There were plenty of activities for all ages (we had a toddler, school age, parents and grandparents) and the cottages were big enough for all of us to gather together in front of the fireplace. This is the second year we have come to Olema House for birthdays, and it never disappoints! The staff was so helpful in organizing everything, and went above and beyond with their hospitality. We shared a delicious meal of local cheeses, fresh oysters, and due to our large party were able to share almost everything on the menu. They chef was able to accommodate for food allergies, and every bite was delicious! My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer!

So many things to like and not... let me list some of them here.
Pros: very quaint, boutique place. Easy to find and very good for a visit to Point Reyes. My room had a small balcony with French doors. I placed a chair on it to get some sun and the view is very peaceful. The grounds are on the small side but serene as a small stream runs adjacent to the yard. The restaurant offered take out with one vegan/gluten free selection- risotto with porcini, carrots and spinach that I paired with the old V/GF standby, fries. Bottle of house wine and a small bottle of water was a nice touch.

On the downside, it’s next to Hwy 1 so you can hear the cars go by from the room and from the grounds. The bathtub plug was stuck and the front desk staff helped me pull it out but didn’t fix it for my second night after they said engineering would do so. There’s no in room hot water or coffee maker so that was a ding... fireplace didn’t work and no recognition for this on the price. Nor was there breakfast offered even though the room price was the same as pre-covid times.

Would I stay here again? I’m not sure... paid over $1,000 for two nights on a long weekend. For that amount of money, I expected more. Much more. So probably not even though the location is great. I’ll probably try someplace else next time. Too bad. Really wanted to like this place more than I did and definitely not for the price I paid.

Dear Ruby, Thank you so much for your recent stay, I am sorry to hear the experience was not as spectacular as you expected. We are a small country boutique property with a stream out back and yes Highway in right in front of us. There is some road noise to contend with certainly. I am sorry that this is the case, and I wish we could somehow make us further back, but we are a victim of location that we cannot move...however, we do offer ear plugs and we are looking into getting sound machines to offer if guests need ambient noise to help keep them sleeping. The road noise is usually quiet after 9-10p but will start up in the morning. I am very sorry we did not follow up on the tub and get it repaired. That is really not a great experience and for that I am very sorry for our oversight. We do have a maintenance team on site so we should have been able to get in to repair it. We do hope you will come and see us again, please let me know if I can do anything in the future to help overcome this defect you have experienced on our behalf. Thank you again for the stay and review, we are happy to hear you enjoyed the balcony and the grounds. Thank you, Andrea Murray, General Manager Olema House Point Reyes

The grounds of Olema House are beautiful with many outdoor areas to have a peaceful, relaxing experience. Given the price, I would expect a higher level of service and more amenities. Our ground-level room was very small, with limited areas to put our clothing/belongings or to sit (other than the bed). Due to Covid, there was no housekeeping service, which was fine, but the garbage can in the room was small, and there were no extra towels provided (I’m sure we could have requested them). Also, our room had a couple of stairs transitioning from the bedroom to the bathroom, which could be problematic for people with mobility issues and are potentially dangerous in the dark. A nightlight would have been helpful. We had spotty service both at check out and at the restaurant, waiting when staff clearly saw we were there waiting and made no acknowledgement of our waiting or intent to help. I also used a gift card through Yiftee for partial payment... for some reason, despite providing the information by phone when I made the reservation and providing the hard copy of the gift card at check-in, the full amount of the gift card was not charged, resulting in a higher charge on my credit card which took time on the phone to resolve once we got home. We were disappointed that the brunch menu was the same as the dinner menu... though we were able to get yogurt and pastries at the market, we would have enjoyed breakfast on site. All in all it’s a lovely space and was a great getaway, but the level of service did not feel commensurate with the price.

Dear Annw, We thank you for your recent stay and comments on our areas of opportunity, we certainly appreciate your stay with us and I do apologize all was not perfect in terms of our service delivery. We will be sure to go over all areas you noted and ensure we have a good constructive conversation with the team about where we went wrong. We need to do more training around the gift cards clearly, and we have a couple of new people that we need to make sure they understand how those work. I can understand how that would be frustrating, but please do remind us at check in about any special billing arrangements needed so we can ensure that we have noted it. I understand you called however, so we will work on that. We did have a couple of staff suddenly unavailable to service breakfast, that was last weekend specifically, but we do normally offer breakfast items at brunch and in the market. Apologies we were unable to do that request this last time you were here. Please reach out if we can help in any other way, we will be sure to bring these concerns to everyone's attention and share related training topics in our upcoming hotel meeting this week. Thank you! Andrea Murray, General Manager

We stayed in room 17 which was a two-floor room with a wonderful view. Having a fireplace was a nice cozy touch to the property. The overhead shower was really nice with good water pressure. Hotel staff was very friendly and assisted with a sheet for short drive activities close by and offering complimentary bottles of water whenever we needed them. We did a picnic basket through Olema house and went to Limontaur beach and saw some elk and foxes. Pros: location to short drive activities around Point Reyes and along the coast. Great amenities and relaxing stay for couples. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available to guests. Cons: Breakfast is not included; however, the staff can take your order and bring it to your room from Due West restaurant next door. We didn't end up using this option but it was nice to know. No TV in the rooms; however, the WiFi is great. It's a relaxing stay to connect with nature, so this wasn't a huge con but something to be aware of in your stay. No gym or equipment. We did some workouts in a grassy area, but if you're looking to get in your workouts while on vacation, hiking is probably your best bet in this area. Recommend they add a couple of Peloton bikes and maybe a small yoga studio that would go well with their wellness retreat style.

Overall we really enjoyed our cozy stay at Olema House and think most people will be really satisfied with their stay! Highly recommend eating at Tony's Seafood in the Marshall area. Activities we did: Point Reyes Shipwreck, Limontaur Beach, Cypress Tree Tunnel, Due West Restaurant, and Nicks Cove Restaurant. Thank you Olema House!

Dear Dane H, Thank you so much for the recent review of Olema House. Appreciate the review and happy to hear you enjoyed the activities in the area and visited the beaches! There are great coastal access points of interest all up and down the coast. Glad to hear you got out to enjoy it as the Seashore is what it's all about here, well the trails are great too. Love the bike idea, we are working on some additions for next year, will see what we do about that, but thank you so much for that recommendation. Hope to see you again soon! We checked in for one night 10/26/2020. We enjoy the to towels & bathrobes. We were disappointed that is was not more romantic. No radio or TV or movie options, flowers, turn down with chocolate. I am disabled, so it met my needs for the bathroom. Knowing that I was disabled it would have been nice if someone offered to help with the luggage. The disabled parking was on the opposite side of the property beyond the restaurant and the market. I subscribe to Conde Nast and went last minute on their recommendation.
Over priced. We could get hot water and a woman came and said it needed to run for a long time. We called the desk again at 8:30 p.m., but no one answered the phone. There was no place to hang clothes. Another review mentioned lights outside, but we didn't see any. Very loud noises at 12:30 a.m. sounded like people yelling, other review mentioned racoons. We are familiar with racoons, but i thought it was something else. There was no breakfast, nor discount,

The pub, Due West, was a major disappointment. It was freezing cold. They would not move us to another room or close the large door. They gave us small light weight blankets. We decided to take our soup to our room along with an appetizer we ordered and wine. I asked it we could have bread or crackers and was told 'they would take care of' us. When the waiter arrived instead of bread, he brought two more glasses of wine. Should have booked with Trivago.com. Everywhere hosts are doing there best during the covid-19 crisis, but a little more effort would have gone a long way.

The property, while beautiful, is pretty much the only really great thing about the stay. The hotel was too close to the highway, which was loud. There was a light missing in our room, which made it hard to see at night, and be warned- in summer, there's no AC. Also, it was NOT advertised as a DOG FRIENDLY hotel, and so we had upstairs folks whose dog barked in the middle of the night. And, there is smoking allowed on the garden grounds. Very disappointed with all these things.

The restaurant had good food- one of our servers, Jose, was amazing! The other, Mike, kept us waiting for a long time, forgetting we were there. We sat there for over 2 hours on a MONDAY night for a 3 course meal, and it was NOT busy. Also, the selection's at Due West's store were sad. They didn't have much healthy food options, and since the Hotel wasn't serving breakfast, it was not very good. The hotel staff was just friendly, but not over hospitable. I understand service is different in COVID times, but with what you pay- I'd suggest going somewhere else.

The room was clean and cozy. Service at the front desk was friendly and quick. The two big drawbacks were the two steps in our room that you had to navigate to get to the bathroom and front door. The steps were the same color as the wood floor, so you need to be careful and not fall when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The other was the $25 per night resort fee. It's bad enough to see these charges at an actual resort with a spa, etc., but I can't figure out what the fee paid for. Not really many amenities that I could find. Just price the room in such a way that you dont have to tack on such a fee.

Dear Ohtobeinsandiego, Many thanks for recently staying with us and reviewing your experience, we are happy to hear you enjoyed the service from our team and staff! We will be sure to thank everyone for their courtesy. I am sorry to hear that the stairs were a defect during your stay, most of the rooms have some stairs, however, we do have a couple of rooms that do not have stairs. We can assist if you reach out in advance and let us know. We cannot change the configuration in the rooms themselves, but we can try and accommodate you in a different style of room with a modified layout, if you have a preference. The Resort fee is a mandatory fee and is displayed online and in all booking fields when making the reservation. Our reservations staff is also fully trained to review this. What you are entitled to is the Hotel Wifi, complimentary coffee and tea service in our fireside lounge, parking and a bottle of Panna still water and a bottle of Olema house red in the room upon arrival. We do have extensive property grounds available to guests that require a lot of landscape maintenance, we are not a small property with just a parking lot onsite, the outdoor space and creek are maintained by a local garden scaping company and the fees for this are quite beyond "normal" hotel expenses. The resort fee helps us maintain these amenities for all our guests and ensure we have excellent available space to enjoy as a guest of the hotel. It is our goal to ensure a wonderful experience for you and make sure you have a wonderful time and able to enjoy all we have to offer. We thank you so much for your stay and review of our little Olema House and we do hope to see you again soon, please contact me in advance for your booking to ensure we get you into a room with no stairs. Thank you, Andrea Murray, General Manager
