Thousand Trails Lake of the Springs is acclaimed for its friendly service and family-oriented atmosphere, including live entertainment and karaoke that make the ambiance inviting. While the rooms receive mixed reviews, especially concerning space and shower facilities, the location's relaxing vibe is a standout feature.
Guests appreciate the cleanliness across most facilities, although some mention the pool bathroom as an exception. Opinions on value and amenities vary; some praise the reasonable pricing and diverse offerings, while others point to electrical issues and recreational feature shortfalls as detractors.

Detailed Reviews
The first thing to know about this campground is that there are not many full hookup sites. Section X will give you the best shot at finding one. Avoiding a Friday arrival will also help. Somehow we lucked into finding FHU back-in shaded site #X16. The trees were most appreciated as it was above 100 degrees for several days! Our site also had incredibly strong water pressure (major bonus!) The nearby Trading Post store has a small grocery selection along with a deli that sells hot foods. An employee named Eva works in the deli and she is incredibly nice. She always had a smile on her face and her positive energy was just wonderful. Their manager is also fantastic. Campground lodge is now open. We loved the downstairs air conditioning and TV, but sadly the free wifi was abysmal. There is no cell reception in Section X but it is close to the pool, store and lodge. Pool closes at 3:00pm and we couldn't figure out why. That is bizarrely early folks! TIP: Go to Section I if you need cell service. My AT&T phone and my wife's Verizon phone had 3 bars there. My phone also had 1 bar & wife's phone had 2 bars near the boat launch dock. Honeywagon service is available for water & electric only sites. The cost is $40.00 for up to 3 pulls. Service is on Thursdays and Sundays. Section G bathrooms were old and very dirty, whereas the section B bathrooms were much better. This campground does not offer optional paid wifi. Recycling is available near the dumpsters.

This place would be 5 starts but it needs some work. Not enough staffing. Things are still closed. Campers trashing their camp site in the opened purple pass tent sites. Porta pottys should be in the middle of the opened tent camping area so we all can walk the same distance especially when there is no lighting and we had to deal with mountain lions.

Lake of the Springs is in a convineient location, relatively easy to get to from the bay area and is a nice enough campground. the campsites themselves are mostly cramped gravel pad sites, some back up to grass/fields, but most do not. The lake is the main attraction and it is very crowded on Sat when the campground is full. Lake's swimming area was also full of sea-grass which was annoying but also a safety concern for swimming into the deeper sections as it tends to tangle around your limps as you swim through it; kids enjoy piling up the sea-grass on the beach to clear the water so it wasn't the end of the world, but it would be nice if they cleared it in the swimming area.

Not happy with first come first serve and the lack of "full hookups". From the booking experience we believed that we had "full hookups" however needed to pick our site when we arrived. That was not the case. Out of what seems like hundreds of sites, only 20 are "full hookups".
We luckily found one site left that was full hookups but the site had a faulty power panel and tripped our breaker throughout the first day and night. It was 109 degrees, so the next day we moved to a different site, across the way, without sewer and the power panel worked fine. I told a staffer that the site we left needed to be looked at as it would fry a future campers rig/appliances and or be a fire hazard. The site was not roped off or looked at while we were there. The staffer then proceeded to tell me they would give me a discount to become a member. I was not interested in having a "time share" conversation at that point. Terrible trip.

Ownership targeted me and made my evening and trip horrid. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but it’s just filled with trash that they ownership will pick up and rub in your face. They picked up trash from previous campers in my spot and displayed it to me like “here’s your trash, don’t litter.” It was honestly very rude to the point where I took the bite they left saying that my type of camping wasn’t allowed and taped all the trash they displayed to the note and put it in the campsite turn in box.
I believe in leaving no footprint and I really, really didn’t appreciate them picking up other campers trash and giving it to me to throw away.
There’s dumpsters everywhere, yet they can’t pick up the trash and put a little effort into making it seems clean. Instead they try to force you to pick it up for them.
I do not recommend this resort to anyone and I hope they lose a lot of business. I hope this review helps inform someone and that ownership makes a change. Good luck to anyone going there to camp and thinking that they’re gonna have a good time!

The trading post/store is closed Mon/Tue. We stopped by on Weds afternoon for some ice cream and there was a sign saying "closed noon for staff training". Disappointing. The power went out multiple times during our stay. The playground is closed, pool is being remodeled, and you must bring your own equipment for the other activities. At least the bathrooms were clean. No sewer hookups. The lake is warm but full of seaweed and cloudy water. We won't come back.

Really nice park with a very special dog park on the beach. If it were not for all the entitled people that did not feel the rules were for them this would be my favorite TT Park.. Unfortunately people did not pick up after their dogs both in the campsites, but also in the dog park. Also, there is no fishing posted in the dog park, but that didn't stop them. Otherwise, a great park with wildlife wandering through the park.

Really nice place even though it is nothing like it was. This place suffers from the lack of employees. When I came here in 90s everything was working, open and maintained. We had an arcade and restaurant at club. Problem is Thousand Trails ownership has gotten so fat they don’t want to maintain something when they need to buy another million dollar home. It is the sad state of 2022. The rich want to keep the money instead of hiring the right amount of employees. AND don’t tell me “we can’t keep people” when my GARBAGE at home is picked up every week without a problem. Pay to keep people. Yes you might have to skip on another house in Malibu. PAY your employees right and keep them. The people there are doing there best and ready to leave. Why don’t you walk your fat rich but over to the place and work a day and see what your struggling short staffed employees are dealing with. I am going to return again this summer because it is so beautiful. If I don’t see a change it will be my last visit as well as my family’s since the 1990s. Please consider how many people your greed has damaged. You destroyed something that has been so beautiful all for your greed.

I've been staying at this campground for over 20 years. Worst camping experience I have ever had there. No Ranger after 11PM-partying, noisy goes on until way after midnight no one around to stop it. Just like one big party campground without any regards to other campers. Restrooms hadn't been cleaned in 4 days and this was just 2 days after the 4th of July. No water in the Lake which they do not disclose on their webiste. Swimming pool was closed down.

We had made a reservation over the phone looking for a cabin or something similar. The person over the phone had booked us for an RV trailer rental. When we arrived to the site, the front gate said that they had NO trailers there. We had them cancel our reservation and I have yet to receive any refund

We heard by next fall. But that remains to be seen.
If you are a 20' rig then you can park anywhere. I have a 40' 5th wheel which was a challenge.
For me I would go to the top of the hill with a shorter rig provided a sewage connection was not required.
It gets in the high90’s to 100 degrees a lot of days in this area in July and August. Shade and AC will be your friends.
